Even more impressive when you consider Akers had a run of 11yds and a first on one play, IIRC.

Poor Tallahassee about to get hit by a Cat3 hurricane (not as bad as Cat5Perry and Real Canes ofc) so don't pile on, lol. I live in an FSU household in Perry (near Tally, wish us luck) and yeah they were whooping and hollerin at 27-7, the walls shook. By the end it was just cursin-the-refs and slammin doors, lol. THANKS to STEFAN, as usual.
 
Special teams were awful.They gave FSU 10 points on punt returns;td and field goal on a run back that put them on our 30 yard line.They also missed a chip shot field goal.Our net yards on punts is 24.9 with Spicer as our punter leaving our defense in awful field position.We also had two holding calls that cost us return yardage and the negative the penalty yardage.
The problem is that we have starters such as DJ and Homer on our punt coverage who are tired along with players like Demetrius Jackson who can not run.We need to see players like Steed,Ivey,and other young fresh head hunters to replace the tired starters on punt coverage.
Jimmy Johnson use to coach special teams recognising the importance of these facet of the game.We need to reevaluate special teams because we were awful at LSU and have not improved since like our Offense and Defensive teams have.
 
I liked some of our trick plays in the second half. Things like that double reverse thing and the flea flicker made me happy to see if they didn't do anything spectacular.
 
Great write up Stefan. Honest and fair evaluation with zero homersim.
During the game I was so mad about our special teams play, I was picturing a banner flying over the stadium saying "Richt Please Fix Special Teams"

We also used Harley as a decoy on a jet sweep earlier in the game

I want more of that and obviously give him the ball in that spot as well....or Thomas, Lingard or another one of our burners
 
I agree and disagree with this assessment!
Coaching on offense was horrendous. Play calling made no sense and was shut down often in the first and second half. We ran the ball way too much and would knock Perry out of his rhythm. The use of personnel on offense made no sense when could have easily dominated their small defense.
You wrote "the jury is still out on Perry", but my mind was made up after FIU that Perry was a better qb and would be Miami's qb going forward. All the work that needs to be done on our team is on offense and special teams. Perry has a lot of growing to do but I can almost guarantee that Rosier or any other qb on the roster wouldnt have had nearly as good of a game as him in this situation. We see what Rosier did against a good defense in LSU, without the run Rosier cant set up his throw. Perry thrives in a situation like that and Coach Ritch shows that he knows that too by throwing the ball to start the game. If I was Ritch I'd give Perry more opportunities with a spread look and leave Brevin or a RB to block. I see already he rarely plays under center so he knows his skill set, but he need to loosen the reins even more and get these receivers running real routes, not this predictable bulls*** he's been calling!

Yes Perry missed on a considerable amount of throws, but there was only 2 or 3 times that we actually had a reciever open down field and Perry wasn't throwing off his back foot or avoiding a sack.

I never got why everyone was seeing a blowout. This game is almost always close no matter how much of a mismatch it looks like on paper. It’s just a different game.

FSU has a pretty good array of talent on that DL, and when they are motivated, they can do damage. I knew Christmas and that big beast Wilson would be problems for us, and everyone knew Burns was going to eat up whichever lumbering starting OT he faced.

When you get dominated up front it’s tough to sustain anything. We did the same thing to their offense only much worse.

And, yes, our Special Olympics Teams is one of the worst units in the country. About the only thing we do well is snap the ball. I haven’t seen an abortion like this on STs since Dave Arnold.

Yeah, it's a pure rivalry game and as you stated, their lone remaining strength is their front four on defense and well, our O-line isn't exactly the 2001 unit - then you add in the fact we had an inexperienced QB. Im just relieved UM could win and move on.

Said all week that the DL/OL matchup was scary. And I was also concerned with Perry in his first FSU game. Totally different game than FIU and UNC.

Chise, I stated last week that Brian Burns was the one guy we had to game plan for and it was maddening to see that many times we left him on an island(where he really hurt us) and bottom line is that FSU overall, has recruited well at that particular position

Now, hate to be Debbie Downer, but this upcoming game scares me to death. Physical, emotional rivalry game just completed, now going on the road vs a pretty decent team, with an offense that is still very inconsistent. This game to me will be very telling in terms of just where Richt has this program

Lucas is slow and overrated. I hope he sticks with FSU.
 
A game like this showed me a ton about Perry. He struggled in the first half no doubt. But think of all the pressure (pretty much from everywhere) he was facing all night literally and figuratively. I think the guy can be special, I don't hide it and Saturday showed that despite the low completion %. The players and fans LOVE him. If richt pulled him I think richt would've have been wrecked for a decision like that. Factor in 6-8 drops, 5 sacks, inefficient running game, worse O-line performance than LSU game and being down 20 at home in your second start??!! OUR Qb grew up big time. The completion % was Malik like but that most certainly wasn't a Malik like game. Kaaya, Rosier, Morris, Marve, Wright don't come back from down 20 In their 2nd career start period. He will get better, there will be lumps but BE PATIENT! It will be worth it in the end.

Yeah, as a revisit this thread I'm not certain where the criticism of Perry is coming from. Yes, at points, he looked like a red shirt freshman playing his first game in this historic series. Though, he responded and eventually scored three touchdowns in about 3 minutes along his way to a day where he threw four touchdowns and no interceptions. there are also a couple of easy drops made by his wide receivers that would have upped that completion percentage to about 50%. My only take away regarding him is that it's pretty clear why Richt made the change.
 
If the object of football was to surrender as many points as possible without giving up yards, Miami would be champions of the universe. 33 points on under 300 yards to LSU, 27 points on 200 yards to FSU. The special teams are atrocious. If they could actually give the defense field position, they'd shut out everyone.

One positive for the offense is that they're turning turnovers into points at least. It seems whenever the chain comes out this year, the offense gets points. I was generally pleased with Perry's play despite him getting rushed every down. He didn't throw into traffic and generally made the right read, even when he missed on some throws. If you get rid of the five drops, his numbers look significantly better. Tack on the yardage from the P.I. calls too. Certainly plenty of work to do and I still think Richt is too gun shy with Perry but there's some good signs.

We play at Prime Time. I would be more concerned if it was a noon game but yes.....this game will be closer than it should be.
