ACC MEDIA DAYs 2014 w-UM

Plus ACC has more smaller schools than any other conference, a couple of which are private, not public: Miami (Private 15K), Boston College (Private 15K Students), Clemson (Public 20K), Duke (Private 15K), Notre Dame (Private 12K), Syracuse (Private 20K), Wake Forrest (Private 6K).

Compare that to the SEC, with only Vanderbilt (12K), Ole Miss (19K) having less than 20k students. The Majority of these schools are in the 30K range, With two schools (UF and TAMU) having 50K+ enrollment.

@mattyports: Denzel said he needs to get off blocks better and not get lost in coverage. Wasn't disappointed in 3rd rd draft grade bc of that.

@mattyports: Me: Michael Wyche, you've worked out with him --
Denzel: "He works out with me."
#fairenough

@mattyports: Denzel admits it: "I'm 5-11 on a good day." Said being a sub-6-foot LB doesn't bother him bc "I'm still able to go out there and ball."

@mattyports: Denzel on Jake Heaps: "He's good under pressure. I try to talk a lot of trash to him to try & get into his head & it blows right past him,."

@mattyports: "First time I tried to talk trash to him, he threw a touchdown. He came and shook my hand and said, 'Keep it up.
'"

Cant wait to hear the word outta camp on Heaps when it starts

I never said that people from areas that traditionally care little about college football were all tuning in to watch. That point is totally irrelevant to the relative level of interest the SEC, err, $EC and the ACC garner. The SEC, err, $EC media days will have exponentially, exponentially, exponentially more coverage from non-ESPN outlets than the ACC media days. Besides FSU, err, F$U, there is not a single team or story compelling enough to transcend individual allegiances. I mean, what are you even trying to articulate?

What am I trying to articulate? That if ESPN wasn't continually trying to prop up the $EC and did one day of coverage (I mean do we really need more?) of each of the Power 5 conferences' media days that the ratings would be fairly similar. I guess you're just buying the narrative that those $EC fanbases are just sooooo superior in numbers and dedication. I don't.

In comparison to ACC fansbases, for the most part, they are. FSU and Clemson are the only ACC fanbases that come close to "SEC fanbases" and even they pale in comparison to the SEC school in their state. Ok, maybe Clemson/USC is closer, but UF's fan support in Florida blows FSU out of the water in Florida.

I'm not even arguing ACC/$EC although by a NATIONAL ratings perspective the pull of talking about the (effing) reigning champs would bridge that gap. I'm just sick of all the assumptions we're supposed to believe about the mighty $EC when their actual fanbases aren't larger or more "dedicated" than your average Big Ten clown from those behemoth institutions that routinely fill their giant stadiums too.

I hate the SEC as much as anyone, and more so now, living where I do, but realities are realities. Some of the Big 10 schools have the #s the SEC schools do, but those fans don't eat, sleep and breathe football like SEC fans do. I lived in Chicago for 4 years, which is right in the heart of Big 10 country. OSU is the only Big 10 school's fanbase I'd compare to the SEC when it comes to crazy/passion, and it's still not the same.

All I'm saying is too many people are prisoners of the moment when it comes to the $EC and ESPN's obvious constant slurpage. Go back a decade and try to convince the rest of the country that the $EC is the king of all things college football. The way we're forcefed nonsense too would lead one to believe that Bear Bryant was Saban's predecessor. Mike Shula, what? Franchione leaving for A&M, who? Sure, that conference has had their little run but anyone older than 20 isn't going to bow down to them. Watch the national media narrative change real quick too once their dominance ends here soon and nobody in the major media markets sees any worthwhile reason to watch their conference games. No offense to anyone residing in $EC kountree but there's a reason why they only have their college team to support. The entire state of Mississippi watching something is meaningless on a larger scale.

ESPN has an SEC network coming up. Of course they are going to blow up the SEC, and if you're expecting it to stop you're delusional. They aren't going to spend billions, then turn around and talk about how great another conference is.

Ohhhh, I totally recognize that. Doesn't mean we have to bow down too or be silent when their constant shilling affects rankings. I mean does anybody out there even not think that it's going to take a few years of the Playoff before the $EC stops automatically getting a second spot? The committee certainly won't ever exclude their almighty conf champ in favor of adding a second team from another conf. I guarantee that happens to an ACC or PAC-42 champ before it's (rightfully) expanded to 8 teams

Nope. F*** all that. I want every one on this board to keep downplaying him and blessing kaaya as the starter. I been sayin that he had NO talent at Kansas and SOMEHOW managed a 8-10 ratio. The weapons he's been blessed with can change him into a blake bortles in next years draft (as far as draft status) if he takes the time in the off season and keeps working out with the recievers. BUT everyone here is sayin Kaaya starts so keep going with him lol

You're missing the point. It's not meaningless. Give the Big 10 the same coverage, and in spite of the Saturdays in the Fall attendance, the entire states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania won't be watching the coverage, but almost the entire South will. There was a poll recently. It said nationally people said they'd watch the US play in the World Cup over their school's spring game. In SEC country, it was reversed, and not even close. In some Southern states, it was 65%+ watching the spring game, while nationally it was 65%+ or more watching the US in the World Cup.

I love that Denzel realizes that getting the U back is just a saying. It was an unmatched work ethic. It was a burning desire to be the best. To dominate, to destroy your opponent. Anyone can talk the talk. The guys that made the U walked the walk. **** they didn't really talk about it until they were done here. I think that the rest of CFB caught on to what we had, the speed, the work ethic. We honestly, need to figure out a way to reMAKE the U. Everyone is working hard now, everyone is putting in the extra time in the weight room. I am not sure what we can do, but we need to figure that out. Everyone realizes the need for speed players like the ones we used to have. And now they have them too, which is why the Duke's of the world are talking like they do. We just need to target the players that play with that chip on their shoulders, play with that determination to prove to the world that they are the best. That is what is still missing from this team. A few have it, and its growing, but we still need more of it.....

We desperately need someone to step up and grab that QB spot by the horns, I hate having uncertainty at that position.

That's all well and good but it neglects the actual populations of those areas. Metro Detroit ALONE has a MILLION more people than the ENTIRE state of Mississippi. I HATE having to champion the Big Ten here but their physical numbers alone in alumni and on gameday dwarfs the mighty $EC. These are alumni that don't view their major city and de facto big city capital as an inconsequential city such as Atlanta.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this. The only way to really settle this will be to check back in few years to reassess the perception of the $EC after their on-field dominance has waned and the national media can no longer incessantly slurp them with a straight face.

Not really feeling those orange jerseys although they're still so much better than VT's junk here. Love Duke's watch though.

ACC Championship Votes

1. Florida State - 104
2. Clemson - 2

3. Louisville - 564
4. Syracuse - 368
5. NC State - 326
6. Boston College - 301
7. Wake Forest - 136

Coastal Division

(First place votes in parenthesis)
1. Miami (26) - 614
2. Duke (33) - 597
3. Virginia Tech (23) - 571
4. North Carolina (27) - 570
5. Georgia Tech (1) - 322
6. Pitt (2) -319
7. Virginia -142

ACC Player of the Year

3. Duke Johnson, RB, Miami - 1
4. Jamison Crowder, WR, Duke - 1
5. Brenden Motley, QB, Virginia Tech -1
(4 voters made no selection)

SO...they picked us to "win" the Coastal by total points, but we got the 3rd-most 1st place Coastal votes. Freaking weird. To me, that means that the media believes we'll be a part of the normally fvcked up Coastal equation, but will (as per usual) figure out a way to **** it away once our destiny's in our own hands.

@mattyports: Denzel Perryman said the defense is definitely going to be better this year "because everyone knows the playbook in and out."

We can only hope this **** is true

I was under the assumption that the playbook was 3 plays hastily drawn upon a napkin

How the **** did guys not know the playbook in year 3? Did Dorito write that **** in Braille?
