A Few Things

Peter, I don't know you, but you seem like a sharp enough kid. Most on this site know that I am not one to flame or pick fights.

Having said that, if you think that Al would not only pass on Stacy Coley, but pass on him in favor of Cunningham and Whitfield, then you need to pick a new career field.

Kermit Whitfield is not going to Miami, not because you can't get him, but because your coaches likely don't want him.

I tried stating this as clearly as I could, but it has nothing to do with Coley's talent level. He is the most talented receiver in Florida, maybe even the entire country. But what I'm trying to say is this. What happens if they take a commitment from Coley now and them find out he can't qualify close to signing day? At that point, Cunningham has probably looked and committed elsewhere and Miami doesn't end up with either of them.

But would it really be that bad if Cunningham committed elsewhere? With a ton of potentially great young WRs already onboard (Dorsett, Scott, 2012 kids, likely AJL), i'm thinking we can and should be really choosy with who we take at WR, especially with limited schollies and critical needs at OL, RB, and S. Is Cunningham a Matthew THomas-VHIII type of talent that you absolutely have to make room for? Or is he just another good prospect at WR whose skillset you can find in another kid in 2014?

There aren't many Matthew Thomas-type talents around. If Thomas keeps his mind right and puts in the work to grow his frame, he's an NFL first rounder almost on gifts alone. You cannot teach that burst or change of direction at that size. Olivier Vernon did absolutely zero here and became a 3rd rounder even with off-the-field stuff hovering over him. Thomas is closer to a Lemonier-type impact guy, a guy who almost got double digit sacks in the SEC last year, probably will get them this year, and will likely be a top pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

I know Coley is a stud but for the program it is probably better to have a kid like Cunningham, who is damned good in his own right.

The problem with kids like Coley, and we have seen it a bunch of times, is that when a kid has issues in high school they usually don't just disappear when they show up at school. If he is having that hard a time qualifying AND he seems to be a bit of a head case AND we have limited scholarships it is a tough take, because it not only means you miss out on another talent on signing day but then you also have a much increased potential of keeping the kid eligible once at school.

with his talent I hope he gets it straightened out and matriculates to The U, but like some others said, we have been burned so many times with kids like this that eventually you start to wonder if it is worth it.

We need Thomas and Coley. Absolute premier GAME CHANGING talent. You make it happen. I don't care how, boats, hoes, Cokes at Benihana, the whole nine yards. Golden needs those two. Specially in a small class. Thomas could make Perryman look average. And Coley is our #1 receiver from day 1.

Yes please.
