You can't just pick and choose, and what you REFUSE to acknowledge is that Lane's OLE MISS POWER FIVE SEC RECRUITING numbers have been closer to FAU G5 territory than USC/Tennessee recruiting territory. There's no "but his recruiting classes at Tennessee and USC 10-15 years ago should make us look at his current 4-year performance with rose-colored glasses".

And THAT is the problem. Lane has signed a bottom-three SEC class for 3 of his 4 years. And, yes, the SEC is a better conference than C-USA or AAC or any other G5 conference. So maybe the floor in the SEC is higher than the ceiling in G5 conferences.

But the results speak for themselves. Since his bump class, Lane has been on the decline for two consecutive years. Will it change next year? I don't know, but he already flirted with Auburn this year, so why should I wait around to see what happens with his fifth recruiting class at Ole Miss?

The bolded doesnt help yall cases for saying Lane Kiffin isnt a good coach. lol

Its an amazement with all you stated the man has his team bowl elgible the last 2 years. How did he do it?.

You got to ask yourself what's the reason Auburn or whomever flirts with this non recruiting, poor coaching, frat boy?.

For the millionth time...

The bolded doesn't help your case that this is a Recruiting thread on a Recruiting board.

I have not initiated discussions on coaching or comparisons with Mario. Most posters have not. The ONLY reason this keeps veering into "coaching" and "but Mario" is because of one disturbed "I'm not a Kiffin Kocksucker because I don't start threads about him" porster. This thread would have been OVER back at Page 8 if he didn't add dozens of ridiculous derailment porsts.

And go back and copy-paste anything you want to, there have been almost zero negative comments on Lane Kiffin AS AN OFFENSIVE COACH. There have been accurate comments on whether he is a program builder, a good CEO, etc. ****, there was even an article that was JUST PUBLISHED on whether Lane will take the Michigan job if offered, and that article talked about Lane's short tenures at multiple jobs (yes, some by choice and some by firing).

So please don't pretend that the viewpoints of some, that Lane Kiffin might not be the answer to every question, are somehow the product of "Mario-defenders". The Lane Kiffin debate goes on all across the college football landscape. But somehow, because some of us talk about it on this board (instead of, I guess, going to some national not-affiliated-with-one-school board), you get to come in here and redefine the "intent" of the original poster, and claim that any thread started on this board has a hidden pro-Miami agenda.

Look, Kiffin had his worst recruiting year at Ole Miss. That's a fact. I personally think that his Miami comments last year ("I'll take any reasonable offer") plus the Auburn flirtation this year have created a situation where recruits validly question his ongoing commitment to Ole Miss.

No big deal. These things happen. And we can talk about these recruiting struggles without having to compare Lane to any other coach.

But can you factor in his 3.5 years as a head coach at USC and his 6 years as an assistant coach at USC, that will raise his average tenure?

You do realize until bama the longest saban ever stayed anywhere was 4 years as a head coach dont you?


And no im not putting lane in sabans category.

1 year at Toledo and left for NFL DC job - promotion.
5 years at Michigan State and left to take the LSU job - promotion.
5 years at LSU, won a natty, left for NFL - promotion.

Lane HC
1 year at Tennessee and left for USC - promotion.
3.5 years at USC, fired after 5 games.
3 years at FAU and left for Ole Miss - promotion.

They aren't quite the same paths. Lane's history at USC and Ole Miss shows a bad year 1, much improved year 2, then a bad year 3. It's the inverse for FAU.

Why did you leave out lane going to the nfl?

8 wins at ole miss is a bad year? Since when?

Should lanes 3rd year at ole miss be the same as sabans 3rd year at bama? No not at all.

He gave an account of COLLEGE HEAD COACHING TENURE.

Lane's 1.25 years in the NFL came BEFORE he was ever a college head coach, whereas Saban's time at the Dolphins took place in the middle of his collegiate head coaching career.

Did you think that he left out the "lane going to the NFL" just to make Lane "look bad"?

1.5 years as HC of the Raiders, fired after 4 games in final year.
1 year at Tennessee and left for USC - promotion.
3.5 years at USC, fired after 5 games in final year.
3 years at FAU and left for Ole Miss - promotion.

8 wins after a 10 win season is a bad year.

And like he listed with saban. Kiffin took a promotion to go from college to the nfl.

Is 10 wins after 12 wins bad? I ask this to see if you hold mario to the same standard that you hold lane.

So destination doesn't matter to you. You hold ole miss to the same standards you hold bama?

Ole miss averaged 9 wins the last 2 seasons. You will really have to explain how thats bad at ole miss.

Miami IS NOT ole miss.

Lane averages 9 over the last 2. Bad coach.

Mario averages 7.5. Better than lane.


One coached ole miss. The other oregon and miami. Only on canesinsight can mario be considered better.

Better recruiter. Abso****inglutely. Coach? **** naw to da naw naw naw.
