A Few Guys Arguing Non-Stop [F/K/A "Let’s check on Lane Kiffen"]

Man i dont get why these people

Man i dont get why these people dont want to just be real.

Mario will only be successful at miami if he makes good hires. He isnt beating Dabo with just talent. Mario isnt going to out coach anyone.
Dabo Swinney isn't going to out-coach anyone either. Dabo Swinney recruits elite quarterbacks and has had the most talent in the ACC. He isn't giving Clemson some schematic advantage. Oregon won the Pac-12 because Mario recruited NFL players, he will do the same here

Bro; what is u talking about?

If u think it’s all about just “out talenting” teams, then why haven’t UT won a **** thing? Why haven’t we won a **** thing from 2004 to present? I’ve seen this board chit on Dabo, Saban, Kirby, Kelly, Mario & the argument is always “well, it’s b/c they have more talent.” Lol

If u think that’s what it’s all about to win year in and year out, then u have zero clue about what it takes to coach. These guys r not just beating FCS schools on a weekly basis; they r playing teams that are putting players in the NFL, too. The whole “have more talent” argument is lame & salty af, to me.

If those guys r able to acquire better talent than their opponent, then kudos to them, but u still have to coach up said talent b/c going from HS to CFB is no guarantee.

Bro, you can believe what you want, but the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes said the same thing. Miami, in the past, dominated the draft, and therefore, won a lot of games. It's a reason that Mario knew how many ESPN's 300 members he had in his recruiting class. It's a reason in his press conference he mentioned that we have to continue to recruit at this level, and reference the teams that are in the playoffs as the standard.

It's a reason Kirby Smart said, "there is no coach who can out coach, recruiting". Miami over the last 18 years has had good talent, but it hasn't been close to the talent to win a championship, just hasn't. And I know that because the draft told me. Oh State, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Clemson have won 7 of the last 8 championships I believe, and Georgia is the favorite to win it again. Travon Walker had modest production at Georgia, yet he is the #1 pick, while Rosseau is dominating the ACC before the opt-out, and gets drafted at the back in of the first round. One guy is 270 pounds, and ran a 4.5 at the combine, while the other guy is 260, and ran a 4.8 at Miami's pro day.

But this is an oxymoronic statement; is it NOT the coaches job to secure talent?

U’re arguing two different points & this is the fallacy of ur post. No one said talent doesn’t matter; I said talent alone doesn’t win titles. U still have to coach them up. My point of bringing up Miami & Texas is due to the fact that Miami has consistently, on paper, been the most or 2nd most talented team in the ACC, yet where’s the Division Hardware? Where’s the Conference Hardware? Where’s the Bowl Game Hardware?

Let me give u a little secret on the NFL draft; they don’t give af about what u did in HS; they care about how u were developed at the next level. I’ve been privileged to talk to some great football minds connected w/ NFL draft personnel, & I can unequivocally tell u they’ve been less than impressed w/ how guys who’ve come here over the past several yrs have been developed from an IQ & physicality standpoint. ****, Chick will tell u that himself.

But, back to this asinine comment about Dabo. In 2016, Dabo beat a Bama team that was composed of the #1 (2012), #1 (2013), #1 (2014), #2 (2015), & #1 (2016) recruiting classes, as he brought in his team that featured the #20 (2012), #14 (2013), #15 (2014), #9 (2015), & #11 (2016) recruiting classes. How, Craig?

In 2018, they blew out a Bama team that was composed of that 2014-2016 classes, along w/ the #1 (2017, & #5 (2018) recruiting vs. Dabo’s 2014-2016 classes along w/ the #16 (2017) & #7 (2018) classes.

So don’t tell me Dabo can’t coach & he just won on talent alone, b/c per recruiting sites & the metrics of which we judge a team’s talent, he’s had a huge disparity, yet somehow outside of Saban & now Smart, he’s been very successful. I will never blame a coach nor discredit them for bringing in top tier talent, but u still have to coach them up, period.

Who said it isn't the coaches job to bring in talent? I said the talent is more important than the coaching. Also, Craig, I'll tell you how Clemson beat Alabama while having less talent? They had an all world QB in Deshan Watson, who had the highest passer rating in NFL history at the time of his suspension, and they had Trevon Lawrence, who was the #1 pick in the draft.

It's amazing that great coaching staff that Clemson had when they beat Alabama in 2017, could only score 6 points the following year when Kelly Bryant was their quarterback. Did Dabo forget how to develop him? Or how Clemson has lost 5 games in the last two years with DJ as their quarterback, despite having a better roster than the one Watson was on.

Who said you didn't have to develop the talent? I said talent is the main reason these teams are winning. I'll tell you Craig why Clemson was able to beat Alabama, despite having less talent. Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence. Watson had the highest passer rating in NFL history at the time of his suspension, and Trevor Lawrence was the #1 pick.

It's amazing, a year after beating Alabama in 2017 with Deshaun Watson, Clemson was only able to score 6 points the following year against Alabama. Did Dabo forget how to coach or develop players, or was Kelly Bryant a downgrade from Deshaun Watson?. I mean, Clemson roster is better today than it was with Watson, and yet they have lost 5 games in the last two seasons.

Exactly. I have tremendous respect for Lane's offensive schemes and his general game-day feel for coaching and motivation. I'm not as sold on his recruiting and CEO skills. Doesn't mean I hate the guy. I loved his dad when he was coaching up the Bucs.
Maybe we can fuse him and Mario together and create the ultimate head coach? Lario Cristoffin.

Lol; so ur entire argument is that Dabo only won b/c of Watson & Lawrence, huh? So we’re going to act like Bama didn’t have the current NFL MVP front runner as their QB, or that they didn’t send 22 NFL draft picks, 14 of which came in the first 3-rounds from the 2016 team, huh? We’re just going to pretend Bama didn’t have a future top 5 overall pick at QB, along w/ 19 future NFL draft picks, 14 of which came in the first 3 rounds in 2018, huh?

Bruh, just stop. U’re trying way too hard to discredit a guy who’s won **** near 87% of his games w/ & w/o Watson & Lawrence.

Clemson had elite QB, WRs, RBs, and an elite overall defense overall. The OL was above average, but not elite (UM had nearly twice as many OL drafted as Clemson from 2011 to 2020). Mario can recruit elite RBs and a defense, but elite WRs and QBs aren't interested in playing in a Cristobal offense.

Im the same as you.

By year 3 im expecting to win the coastal with Mario. I dont have unreal expectations.
It’s sad when you think about how insane some
Fans are. But to be fair, NO one thought we would have been this bad or as bad as we were. I just believe Mario will win and out talent you

I guess I'm supposed to think Ryan Day is outcoaching all those other teams too, since his winning percentage is higher than Dabo. Never mind he's never coached a game without an NFL QB or NFL WR

Since you think so highly of Dabo, tell your NFL buddies to hire him in the NFL. Dabo is a motivator and a recruiter. He's not considered an offensive genius.
I find it interesting you mentioned Hurts, a guy who got benched at Alabama, transferred to Oklahoma, and was a second round pick, And Tua, who got benched multiple times with the Dolphins and people questioned if the should have drafted Herbert.

Meanwhile Watson is leading the league in passing yards his last season with the Texans, and top 5 in touchdowns, while his team wins 5 games. Lol.

If you think Tua and Hurts are in the same ballpark as Watson and Lawrence, I have some water to sell you in Miami

What does the NFL have to do w/ anything? Lol. U do realize some guys aren’t a good fit at the NFL level, just like some NFL coaches aren’t a good fit at the collegiate level, don’t u? lol

Dude u’re all over the place trying to argue. Have a great rest of the year.

Let them still think he cant recruit. lol

He's at Ole Miss in the sec west....Its HOW the Mississippi schools recruit anyway they use to hit the JUCO's tough...the smart play there is to land some HS guys and play the portal. I mean so far in the portal he has already landed a kid we shouldve taken and needed.

Yall did the same thing last year with him then he did well in the portal. Remember its ESD and there is another in February.

In state he landed 3 of the top 5 players there. I dont think he would be that off in Florida or playing the portal as much if he were here.

He's not at K-State, he doesn't need to use the Portal all-year/every-year.

He has SEC resources. He has SEC wins. He has SEC boosters.

There is no reason he should be pulling up with half-classes of HS recruits and a 50th place ranking. First year, maybe. Now?

And I'm not saying he won't have success with Portal players. He's just god**** lucky that there are no IC rules right now.

You have to .....RECRUIT in the portal.

Come on, man. You BARELY have to recruit in the Portal.

High school kids can be a multi-year relationship-building process, with dozens of suitors being winnowed down to a "top 5".

Portal kids have 45 days (usually less) to make a decision, they barely visit, it's mostly about "hey, dude, we have open spots and ample playing time".

Calculated risk. He’s said before that going forward this will be his strategy. He views it as free agency and for most of these kids there will be college tape to evaluate, Dont know if it will work out but time will tell.

This is a bit misleading. They signed a smaller class.

Their player average would be somewhere in the Top 20.

Lame Sniffen gonna fill the roster out every year with JUCO and transfers, which Mississippi is prime recruiting ground for. Riley has a similar approach.

If there's an area to pick at, for their class, it's the lack of DT's, which again, Mississippi should never be hurting for.

A "smaller class" is 20 when everyone else signs 25.

A "smaller class" is not ELEVEN. That's half a class, if that.

And I've already addressed "player average". It's a great talking point in March, but it is meaningless in December. If you think he can sign another 11 guys with that same ranking average, then let's see it. Because there just AREN'T eleven more players with Ole Miss as a finalist with THAT kind fo quality left to sign in February. Mathematically, Lane's lofty "player average" will decline once he adds more 2 and 3 stars to fill out the class.
