But this is an oxymoronic statement; is it NOT the coaches job to secure talent?
U’re arguing two different points & this is the fallacy of ur post. No one said talent doesn’t matter; I said talent alone doesn’t win titles. U still have to coach them up. My point of bringing up Miami & Texas is due to the fact that Miami has consistently, on paper, been the most or 2nd most talented team in the ACC, yet where’s the Division Hardware? Where’s the Conference Hardware? Where’s the Bowl Game Hardware?
Let me give u a little secret on the NFL draft; they don’t give af about what u did in HS; they care about how u were developed at the next level. I’ve been privileged to talk to some great football minds connected w/ NFL draft personnel, & I can unequivocally tell u they’ve been less than impressed w/ how guys who’ve come here over the past several yrs have been developed from an IQ & physicality standpoint. ****, Chick will tell u that himself.
But, back to this asinine comment about Dabo. In 2016, Dabo beat a Bama team that was composed of the #1 (2012), #1 (2013), #1 (2014), #2 (2015), & #1 (2016) recruiting classes, as he brought in his team that featured the #20 (2012), #14 (2013), #15 (2014), #9 (2015), & #11 (2016) recruiting classes. How, Craig?
In 2018, they blew out a Bama team that was composed of that 2014-2016 classes, along w/ the #1 (2017, & #5 (2018) recruiting vs. Dabo’s 2014-2016 classes along w/ the #16 (2017) & #7 (2018) classes.
So don’t tell me Dabo can’t coach & he just won on talent alone, b/c per recruiting sites & the metrics of which we judge a team’s talent, he’s had a huge disparity, yet somehow outside of Saban & now Smart, he’s been very successful. I will never blame a coach nor discredit them for bringing in top tier talent, but u still have to coach them up, period.
