A Few Guys Arguing Non-Stop [F/K/A "Let’s check on Lane Kiffen"]

The sole reason there is a Lane recruiting thread is to prop up Mario....but you know that ...why on earth else would we be discussing Ole Miss recruiting in the first place?.

Because this board - and this thread - are a Lane Kiffin lovefest. People are trying to bring it back down to earth.

Bro, U can’t discount yr 1 at Ole Miss, even though u just tried to.

I’ve already shown u that if u remove FAU from Kiffin’s resume, he has not.

Do you want to know y Kiffin got hired at the NFL level? B/c he was a hot name as an OC while at SC & the son of, at that time, one of the most respected DCs in the NFL. The NFL is an organization full of nepotism. Regardless, Mark Davis will tell u Al’s biggest hiring regrets were Tom Cable & Lane Kiffin (& no, I’m not making that up).

U’re stating Mississippi doesn’t have the talent pool of Oregon? Lol. Mississippi is in the heart of the SEC. Oregon has to rely upon outside states to funnel talent to them. I agree their resources r not on par w/ Oregon, since Oregon has one of the wealthiest & most influential boosters in the entire world, but let’s not act like Ole Miss’ resources r not on par w/ 80% of the SEC.

Once upon a time, Ole Miss was a very, VERY good program. In the 70’s under Vaught, they were **** good. David Cutcliffe had them as a solid program in the late 90’s - early 2000’s. It was Ed O who sank them. Under Houston Nutt & Hugh Freeze, they saw a resurgence, but the program was dirty under both coaches.

If imma be honest, I think they r still dirty. I have a segment of my dad’s side of the family that r big Ole Miss fans & another segment who r AU fans b/c my lil cousin played there. Mississippi care about their sports & it’s a state that have a plethora of talent, bruh.
His first year was covid year. You want me to factor marios 20 covid year?

Mississippi does not have a plethora of talent come on bro.

But ive stated this before ...Ole Miss is a program that has always used the portal...they have a juco system in their state and them and MISS State routinely placed and sign those types and transfers.

Now what i do believe is ...Lane knows he is in the pressure cooker of the sec west....He likely sees for him to get over the hump or really be competitive he will need to be more portal heavy than typically and has went with that strategy. Hes pretty much stated it himself.

Had he came here like Mario after his first 2 or so years i doubt he wouldve been or would be portal heavy because recruiting talent here in miami out of high school is just at a different level done a place like Ole Miss.

Look, I'm not going to nitpick and fight over JuCo versus ACTUAL Portal, but there IS a difference.

Regardless, this is all about slots. And in Lane's two years under IC limitations, he took FIVE (2020) and FOUR (2021) actual Portal transfers. Which is to be expected under IC rules, you could NOT take a ton of transfers while also trying to sign a NORMAL HS/JuCo recruiting class. In those two years, Kiffin signed 17 HS/JuCo guys (2020) and 25 HS/JuCo guys (2021).

But, yes, things have "changed" over the past two years, once the IC rules were suspended. As I just pointed out in my last post, Lane signed the "second best" transfer class in 2022 via QUANTITY, he took 17 guys. And while he currently has the 13th ranked Portal class of 2023, everything will depend (again) on numbers. If Lane can sign 17 again, good for him. But if he CAN'T? AND he only has 12 HS/JuCo kids...well, then things will get ugly.

We shall see...but, again, by BOTH numbers AND ranking...that HS/JuCo signing class is his worst ever at Ole Miss (and miss me with that "average star rating" nonsense, he's only got TWELVE signees).

We would be discussing it because it is a MASSIVE outlier.

TWELVE HS/JuCo signees when the vast majority of those have signed. And (at least thus far) not nearly enough transfers to offset that disaster.

It is fair to discuss that. ****, I'll talk about the Gaytors recruiting. I'll talk about the SemenHoles recruiting. Doesn't make every topic a "compare Mario" topic.

Not to mention the fact that this idiot loser crossover keeps bringing COACHING into a RECRUITING thread.

Lmao. Idiot loser. What are we in middle school?

Come on so better

Post every class hes had and average them.

Go ahead. Lets see it.

You're not going to like it when I post the FAU numbers.

And unlike you, I'm not some idiot who thinks that things that happened 15 years ago are going to continue forever. For instance, things that Butch was GREAT WITH in recruiting in the 1990s and 2000s...are no longer as dominant, a lot of other programs have caught up.

I'm sticking to the last 4 years with Kiffin because that is what is relevant. Not "that time he inherited a great USC program from Pete Carroll". When Kiffin landed a Top 3 class right off the bat at USC, that didn't suddenly make him a "Top 3 recruiter".

The reality is that Kiffin has declined, as a recruiter, over the two years since his bump class (which was his only good recruiting class). You can **** and moan that "you have to recruit transfers too", but it is a completely different kind of "recruiting". And as I clearly established, Kiffin only had the "#2 portal class" due to QUANTITY.

As I've said, if Kiffin can sign 17 transfers every year, good for him. I don't care. It doesn't make him a good recruiter though, when his HS/JuCo classes (both by size and ranking) continue to decline.

But, by all means, continue to believe in this "Portal Strategery" myth.

What do you mean if he cant?. There is 5 million kids in the transfer portal he will. The fact that he signed 12 hs kids lets you know thats what he is doing. He doesnt even have a qb signed i dont think...shot his wad for Rashada and wasnt even that active there.

He already has 6 transfer signees....hes likely gonna end up with like 15-20 again.

Its interesting to watch though..

He has said his strategy is the portal. Nick saban even talked about lanes strategy when bana and ole miss played.

Its a smart strategy in Mississippi.

Oh yea they are still dirty but can't go crazy like they did with freeze, but then again it is the SEC and college football. Freeze got a "little too big for his britches" in recruiting lol. Ole miss has pretty much always been lower mid to bottom tier program since the SEC expanded. What's interesting is that in the last 50 years Kiffen has the highest winning percentage of any coach while at Ole Miss including Freeze which was surprising.
