A 'Cane Family Affair

Can someone post the cliff notes please

We suck again.

Lu, correct me if I'm wrong here. It's been mentioned that Al can't seem to change his preconceived notions, and rather than match the program to the talent, he stated today that he's in fact going to double down on the ongoing disaster.

It's suggested that by firing D'Onofrio and handing over all defensive duties to a good DCoordinator, our problems will be improved. Here's my take - a really good, aggressive, quick defense will also by default - really improve our offense. Otherwise, Coley's offense would be finding themselves flat on the ground looking up after every play.

If we had a great defense - will the offense naturally be compelled to become great as well?

Could part of our offensive problems be due to a really ****poor defensive scheme, execution, attitude, and direction?

Likewise, could part of our defensive problems be due to a really ****poor offensive scheme, execution, attitude, and direction?

No. The defense has sucked with two different Miami OCs and the entire ACC for two years in row. It sucks because Golden and his DC are bad at implementing and getting the players to execute.

As long as we're in this stadium, I conclude we have no idea what we are doing, and therefore I have no expectations. Saves plenty of headaches.

The people making the decisions are overmatched in this area, and therefore they'll hire less than brilliant coaches, who will recruit less than brilliant players.

Everything else is just noise. It reminds me of presidential campaigns, when Chris Matthews and others in the media are licensed to fixate on the trivia of the day, whether it's a gaffe or the latest jobs report. Meanwhile, it's basically irrelevant. The result was cemented long ago by big picture variables. In 2012, an incumbent whose party was in power only one term was not going to lose. That's the most favorable situational scenario in American politics.

I'll continue to buy season tickets and attend the games, and occasionally comment here, but I think you guys are mostly wasting your time if you think we can fully overcome that stadium situation, and everything it represents.

There's a lot of truth in here. I always half joking tell my friends that a piece of me died when that stadium was torn down...but the truth is a piece of this program may have died with it.

This line of thinking is embarrassing.

While I do not like our defensive philosophy, there are too many delusional fans that actually believe we have talent on defense. This is the worse talent I have ever seen on the defensive line, and I have been following this team since the mid 70's. The linebacker core is also lacking impact players. On the front 7 our most promising players are freshmen and a couple of sophomores.
We all agree 2010 and 2011 were lost recruiting years which have wiped out any depth. 2012 had a lot of quality but is low on numbers. Many are in denial, but the NCAA B.S. weakened our efforts greatly and put is a couple of years behind in progress- which it was intended to do.

We may find out indeed coaching changes may be needed in a couple of years, but lets no pretend that this past years team was talented - it was not
In retrospect we lost 4 games to teams that were better than us because they have better players (and that includes Duke) Especially without Duke Johnson.

As of now we need a major influx of quality talent more than new coaching. First things first.

Also I may add, we could use a quarterback who can actually sustain a drive and show some fire. I did not enjoy the Russel-Morris who gives a sh*t snickers bowl.

Fair, but I have to ask if you think some of those players are as bad as they have looked?

Most, but I could be wrong. It's Unfortunate it will take time to tell. I think many of us who were around in the pre -Scnelly days tend to be a little more patient, for better or worse.

Thanks for your input and that historical perspective. Appreciated.

At first I thought you were talking about Al and a potential affair with Mark and whether Mrs Golden should take him back.

Then I realized it was a very thoughtful piece about the real issues facing us. I don't think the administration at THE U ever wanted the success the football program had. They just wanted Howard to make it a sustainable program. I am Coral Gables born, and I cannot remember a decent President at Miami. Howard screwed them up by turning college football upside down. And then Jimmy came along at just destroyed all the old powers. They were not prepared for a program by the players, of the players, and for the players. They could and still cannot deal with a bottom up system.

I find it funny that Butch is not wanted by Donna. He is actually the perfect coach for them. Al gives them the controlled robot type players the want but will never delivery a relevant team. Butch delivered who did not dance and embarrass the school but were great enough to win a ton of games, but his poor coaching would keep them from the domination that would fan the fires of player rule. See that is why they prefer the passive nature of Al's system. Donna is a politician. FDR told us the in politics there are on coincidences. If it happens, somebody planned it. We have what she wants us to have. Her problems arise from the fact that the Miami fan base will not happily go to games to watch the horrible crap Al put on the field. When nobody shows up for a politicians rally, then they get worried.

For me, let's keep Al for one or two more recruiting classes. Then find way to pressure Mark's firing. Al will quit when his girlfriend gets canned. There will be talent for a new coach to come in and win a NC for us. We will need some luck, but Coaker showed that with enough talent, anyone can get to two NC games.

The wife and Job analogy is terrible. If you're married, and think that your wife can be compared to your job then you're probably with the wrong person.

I interviewed for my job a few times and got it within a few weeks vs I spent years fostering a relationship with a woman, building trust, sharing moments until we got to a place where I felt that it was the right time to ask this woman to spend the rest of my life with her. We signed papers to make it legal, but we didn't sign it for 4 years. Extensions aren't necessary. There aren't any raises. There isn't some overseer who decides if we can stay married based on how its going. I haven't had any annual reviews with my wife.

I may have dated women before, but I never did it in hopes that dating this woman would land me an opportunity with my the woman of my dreams if I did well. If anything, having a wife deters other women.

I dare any of you to walk up to your wife and ask her if your relationship to her is comparable to a football coaches relationship to his Job.

But the same QB, no?

2010: Miami 15th, VTech 32nd, Louisville 50th, Duke 74th
2011: Miami 33rd, VTech 36th, Louisville 29th, Duke 63rd
2012: Miami 10th, VTech 21st, Louisville 44th, Duke 62nd
2013: Miami 14th, VTech 21st, Louisville 36th, Duke 70th

If Duke has better players then its a massive failure by our staff to develop players and put them in position to make plays.

Yikes. If that's what you take from the analogy, no wonder it's terrible to you. It's not about comparing a relationship to a wife to a football coach's relationship with his job.

It's about leaving a situation to find a better suitor. And, then coming back to the situation and the relevant ramifications.

I bet if we looked VTech, UL, and Duke's main contributors came from the 2010 and 2011 classes. Meanwhile our 2010 and 2011 classes were some of the worst ever. The kids who actually made it in/ are still here vs. what some website said

I get what you're going for, but the ramifications aren't on par with one another either hence why the analogy is poor in my eyes. Sure you can draw some slight parallels, but at the end of the day this is a job. You can quickly find another, and another, and another. A life partner isn't so easily gained at this point in life.

The ramifications of those two decisions aren't the same. Not in theory nor in real life terms, nor in terms of those you hurt along the way and the affect it will have on your life.

Am I happy with what him looking? **** no, but i think the analogy is a stretch. I think Blake James, Donna Shalala and the brass, as well as the fans and players would much rather their Football coach flirt with the idea of another Job far more than having their Spouse flirt with the idea of another relationship.
