So the initial response of "WE DO NOT WANT A 1 YEAR RENTAL GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!" when proven factually wrong although spouted throughout the thread and no one seemed to know has now gone to "YEAH BUT WILL HE EVEN PLAY HERE GUYS?!?!?!?!"

I love this site

/for the record I say pass as well
While they’re still arguing that the safety room is loaded, oblivious to the fact that Tyreke is a CB who has played CB his entire college career.

How many snaps as a CB? 2 games, 3 tackles?
I didn’t say he was good at it. Facts are, he was passed up in the spring by not only two RS Fr, but also two true freshman who just stepped foot on campus. But that doesn’t change the fact that he has played/practiced as a CB all 3 years of college and hasn’t been playing safety. Which makes arguing about a loaded safety room at Miami, pointless. And even more pointless that people are wondering if he can bulk up to play LB. The question is, how good is the CB room and is he an upgrade to your current CB roster.

Personally, as bad as the CB room is, I don’t know if he’s an upgrade or not. But I do think the coaches should be looking to upgrade at LB and CB still, so they should be looking at Tyreke and deciding if he improves the room or not. Especially since he has 3 years to play.

lmaooooooo i knew this but i for argument sake still i dont see it being a bad take either way. We've been plagued by the injury bug in the secondary the last couple years so taking the chance on a flyer who can possible play both im not mad at.

And for the record, my opinion:

If he was a one year rental: hard pass.
If you’re bringing him to play safety: pass.
As a CB with 3 years left to play: I’d kick the tires, do my research and due diligence.
This I can agree with. I just don’t believe in fawning over potential transfers because once upon a time they were a 5 star player. Especially if he doesn’t even play the position he was rated at anymore. Maybe he’s can contribute. He’s worth kicking the tires. But a five star safety who gets redshirted and moved to corner and subsequently gets passed on the depth chart at corner by younger players is a lot of red flags.

You don’t find it odd that he was such a highly rated safety coming out of high school but then immediately got switched to a different position in college? It’s not like OSU switched him to corner because they wanted a way to get him on the field early. They moved him to corner and then buried him on the depth chart. Something is fishy with that whole situation

Depends on who is passing him up.

OSU is one of the 3 most talented teams in the country consistently. He could get passed up by those freshmen and STILL be
one of our top 4 corners.

Stevenson was a striker at Georgia a year ago. Now he is our number one corner. Stacked teams like Bama, OSU, Georgia etc, you should look at their portal guys differently. They’re so far ahead some of their castoffs could start for us.

As a prior poster stated, due diligence.

THIS, they are an NFL machine in the back 7, really everywhere. They have spit out 4 of the last 5 NFL DROY players. Some big time schools don't have 4 in the history of the program.

/fluck OSU*

I won’t disagree but I will make one distinction regarding Stevenson. He was a corner in high school, he went to Georgia to play corner. Them essentially making him a nickel/striker is one of the reasons why he’s here and playing corner again.

Stevenson is a proven performer in college, would be a top 5 athlete on most any P5 team, with obvious cover skills, and a past history of corner play. Putting him at corner wasn’t stretch as long as he maintains the right size.

I hear what you’re saying, I just don’t see the comparison.

That exactly why I said I’d do my research and due diligence. Use your network as a coach and reach out to people at OSU to find out some things. Did they always see him as a safety coming out of high School? Did he get on campus and they realized he wasn’t physical enough for safety? I have no idea. After 3 full years in a big time college weight program, he’s still only 190lbs at 6’1”. Maybe he is built more like Ivey than Stevenson and they thought his skills translated better to corner.

Like I said, the dudes who passed him up are all highly rated recruits and our CB room is average at best. Stevenson could lose his hand and still be the #1 CB…….and I’d still probably give him and his one hand the best odds of leading the CB group in INT’s. Worth looking in to, but not someone to fawn over sight unseen.

i used to be one of those guys but i change with the times, Phillips types r the ones u go after period. 1st rounders unless your completely depleted.

All this back and forth over the kid is probably pointless anyway. He's not transferring to sit the bench and wait his turn. You're probably going to have to promise Tyreke that he'll be a starter at CB from day one. Guys like this don't transfer to compete for playing time. I'd bet he ends up at a middling P5 school. Like a GT, Miss State, Kentucky, WV type of school. Somewhere that will guarantee him a starting spot where he'll still be able to play against high level opponents most weeks. Just my guess.

Always forgive and show mercy , but the repercussions must follow for our wrongs or it will repeat.

We fans are falling in love too much with the portal.
Not every portal guy no matter his high school ranking is a take.

That's true Puertocane

But you cannot deny that recently we've been very good with our picks....and I'm no fan of Manny. But you've got to give credit when credit is due

J. Phillips 1st round draft choice was a two year rental. At a position we were well stocked in. He was a 5 star who hadn't really produced b4 he came here, and he was only really outstanding 1 year here. I certainly wouldn't complain about us taking a chance on him. Because it was a chance at that time.

Injuries, transfers, opt-outs, getting butt hurt, ineligibilities for various reason happen all the time. The time to be ready is before it happens.

If he's got the skills or potential and can add immediate depth to a position....why play games?

There's never been a problem caused by having TOO MUCH talented depth on board.

Buried cuz of knee injuries and politics. Also Shaun Wade came back for a year when he was graded as a top 15 pick
