I'm more concern on the development aspect of these young players than the star rating. I hate the star rating system for the simple fact that you always going to have more 3* players than 4* and 5* players on a 85 man roster. So it's imperative that these so called 3* recruits develop into special players. If you look at the speech Micheal Irvin gave to the players before the spring game 2 years ago, he focused on the work ethic that was passed on to him from the older players and didn't want to let them down so they bust there ***. Ed Reed speech to the players a year ago was very similar and focused on the off season training and being a cohesive unit on and off the field. My point is Miami has never been the team that followed the star system, we were known for making guys STARS. I'm happy with whomever decide to sign tomorrow and hope they develop the mentality of the old school canes player and bust there *** in the off season. Hope Crawford and Dillard use the fan base being disappointed that Collins didn't come to TAKE there position as some sort of motivation. COMPETITION is key, but don't let NO FRESHMEN come take your position unless they flat out earned it.

* Also, I'm sure we have more 2-star and 3-star players in the NFL than we have 5-star...

Both. 4 and 5 star with developement equals Alabama, Miami 4 star 5 star talent (if we can keep them home) equals the greatest college football team on the planet. Even better than what Bama is throwing out, I still believe little by little AG will get us there we just need the big wins and one win vs FSU this can change everything. FSU has a ton of pressure to beat us IMO and this year we should make it close epecially if we close strong.

Its a mix that is for sure. But you need the 4/5 star kids because they tend to be the difference makers.

Is Golden a great talent evaluator/developer?

Yet to be seen.

Bernard Pierce, Ahmad Bradshaw, im sure he was on Victor Cruz theres alot of good players he hand picked. Wilkerson is a great DT and Pierre is gonna be a beast and everyone including myself said he wasnt worth a ship when he switched his verbal from Temple here.

You are absolutely right we should keep the best talent in our neighborhood home. Winning like you stated is also vital to keeping these guys at home and getting the fans out (i.e. canes hoop are winning and now they are going on there 3rd straight sellout at the Buc). Just don't like to see so much emphasis on the star system compare to getting the most out of these kids. But, Great points!

Eddie Johnson was a random recruit who is arguably the best defensive player on our team, and rashawn Scott may be our best receiver

People act like you can't have both look at Bama, they get 5 star talent and they develop (or as many suspect, juice) them
Same thing with LSU
4-5 star talent is great, but if they end up like USC or FSU in recent years or even our class of 2008, I rather have2-3 star guys who I know the coaches can develop

In regard to Eddie Johnson, doesn't player development include keeping a kid out of trouble. So far not good with Eddie.

Al has two players from temple in the NFL.

Delaware had two players in the SuperBowl.....so did D2 Washburn.

Both have been in serious trouble off the field since they have been here. Anyone think they were not highly recruited because of character issues?

You're an idiot. 95% of the stuff you say is trash

Give me supreme talent.

Look at Tiger Woods. He messes with his swing and messes with Perkins waitresses but none of it matters with so much talent and therefore margin for error.

I'll take every 5 star kid and let the rest of you worry about vague phrases like player development or true Cane.

You need both if want to win a title.

But we first need to get back to at least being in the top ten, which can be done more easily with player development the way Stanford did it.

Unfortunately i see our staff as being mostly recruiters, not a lot of real elite teachers here. Al is turning out to not be much like Butch at all.

Frankly Miami needed an elite football coach. Not some dude who showed he can recruit really well, or some dude who can resurrect dead programs. Bernie Kosar was pushing for Trestman, who would have been panned by everyone, but probably would have been better in the long run.

I mean clearly AG can't win unless he has a team of studs, as proven by his 6-6 and 7-6 records, and yet he isn't recruiting well enough like Jimbo did to be able to just out talent teams. This is the week people will look back to if AG doesnt get it done and say "the signs were there that he didnt have it"

So youd rather have Ryan Moore and Lance Leggett over Leonard Hankerson and Tommy Streeter?

Willie Williams over Sean Spence?

Kyle Wright over Stephen Morris?

Tyler McMeans over Brandon Linder?

Marcus Forston over Olsen Pierre?

Out of curiosity, why do both have to be mutually exclusive?
