5 Fall Camp Questions on both sides of the ball

Those fumbles greatly attributed to the 3 losses imo especially the ga tech and duke games. But i hope he proves me wrong too and as you said there are concerns there for sure. Pretty sure on the duke fumbles Miami had momentum and at least one was near midfield. Not only that but that was a point swing because who’s to say we wouldn’t have scored on that drive if not because of the fumble

He only fumbled in 2 games

BC
Deejay didn't fumble in this game....but you're attributing the loss to Deejay fumbling.
Deejay fielding 1 kickoff at the 3 yd line was nothing compared to Malik throwing 2 INT's at our own 10 & 33 on back to back possessions.

GT
Deejay fumbled at our own 23 in the 1st Quarter when the game was 7-7
N'Kosi fumbled at our own 40 in the 2nd Quarter when the game was 14-7
Thomas fumbled at our own 10 in the 3rd Quarter when the game was 17-14

Duke
No argument if you say Deejay's 2 fumbles were the main cause of this loss.

Blaming Deejay for Duke is fine. Blaming him for GT is a big stretch. Blaming him for BC has no basis at all.

Why would Deejay's fumble be so much worse?

Year you are right, still can’t have that though either way

@LuCane
I like these kids.... especially Pinck.... but what are you smoking dude... You just mentioned these kids in the same sentence as Dan Morgan🤔... Dan “The Great Freakin” Morgan... These are nice kids but, Dan was a “Killer” ...I think If Dan wouldn’t have had football, he would be in the same sentence as Ted Bundy, Dan had the potential to have even more bodies than Ted.
I respect you for your knowledge but you went overboard with this one my dude.

As has been explained multiple times, I’m not talking about current guys meeting the statistical production or level of a guy like Dan Morgan. I consider Morgan’s senior year a leap from his junior season. He hit a higher gear. I am asking the question if we might see a leap from either Pinck or Shaq. From THEIR previous year(s). Again, if they become more dominant than what they have shown, that would be *like* the *leap* Morgan made - not like Dan Morgan, the 1st rounder, as a player. See the difference?

We replaced Rayshawn Jenkins & Jamal Carter in 2016 after their Senior years with Jaquan Johnson & Sheldrick Redwine. And Redwine was a converted CB that had never played Safety before.
Jaquan was a pretty significant contributor the year before he was named starter. Had nearly double the tackles than Hall and Carter had combined last year.

NO!!! Still not a good comparison... Dan’s Sophomore year was more productive than these kids best years combined.
I understand what you’re saying, but they aren’t built like that. So in my opinion I would have to say NO if Dan’s gear is the standard of a leap we’re looking for this year from these nice boys.
It’s pretty unrealistic and quite unfair, and yes the game is played much different now, but they are still just a different breed of dogs.
Love them to death.
All I keep thinking about is Wisconsin 2yrs back 2 back.
Go Canes
Dan’s tackles
Fr-105
So-150
Jr-139
Sr-138

Shaq/ Pinck
Fr -84/61
So-83/68
Jr-82/74

Ha. Listen, man, I feel ya, but you can't compare production solely off tackles in an era with totally different sets and style of play.

Let's just hope they hit a different gear during their money year.

Hey I agree, it’s definitely a different game today.
And I Really hope they hit a different gear, but their gear is still going to be no where near Dan’s.
I think more realistically is the jump Colin McCarthy made his senior year with Jr-Sean Spence, a very solid duo that nobody wants to hear about in comparisons.
Not the Super Sexxi Dan Morgan, but it’s a lot closer to reality.
A Pit Bull is a Pit Bull and a Shih Tzu is a Shih Tzu. Both good dogs, just different breeds.
NEVER MENTION THESE KIDS IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS THAT MAN!!!

Amari Carter was actually a significant contributor his Freshman year (26 tkls, 2 sks, 1 FF). Not sure what happened last year why Knowles got more snaps than him but Carter has a lot of game experience. 25 out of 26 games played (mostly special teams), 2 starts. Remember Redwine had never played safety in college prior to 2017 and stepped in just fine. I think the safety concerns might be a little overstated.

The safety position is my biggest question mark on defense. We've seen the DL have to replace huge contributors each year Manny's been here and yet we've never skipped a beat. We lose Willis but we gained solid depth at DT and with a great combination of veterans and talented young guys.

The safety situation however is something we haven't seen before. No veteran presence, no returning starter, no significant playing time for either expected starter. I wonder if we see a change in aggressive mentality if the safeties can't be trusted and how much that'll affect our defense.
Did we not go from Jenkins / Carter to Johnson / Redwine under Diaz without much drop off?

Jaquan was primed to take over the starting spot his Junior year. Played a lot throughout his sophomore season and saw plenty of action in our biggest games.

Redwine had his lapses at moments as you'd expect. It was huge having an experienced Jaquan to pair him with.

He is dynamic..as a pure football player & you just can’t recognize that. Guys that can run, catch, block, hit, tackle, & make routine plays are dynamic. He might not a game changing speed or explosiveness but his attributes makes him a beast football player in totality.

I didn’t call him a beast at RB. He’s a beast football player.

I guess we all have different definitions of beast. But the one most commonly heard is that regardless what attributes they have, they show up every game, particularly when the competition steps up. I'm sure he'll continue to improve. We shall see if he plays like a beast in the ACC championship game or bowl season.

We sure do have different opinions so go away bc you aren’t changing mine.

That ain’t commonly heard ****...that’s Uber babble that you’ve made up.

He shows up every week in a multifaceted fashion. You can’t measure it bc you simply don’t know football. No player ever was 100% all the time.

I'd be happy with mere efficiency from the QB1 to start the season compared to the 4 yd/at or whatever we had last season...

That's only your opinion.

Sean Taylor and Jerome Brown brought it every week (just to name a couple). I believe we both can agree they were beasts.
