Please excuse my ignorance I was never lucky enough to attend a game at the orange bowl, how many did it hold?

you want it to be big enough for the big game crowds. 55-60K -ish

F the "big game" fans, support the team every game!
50k is perfect.

i feel the same type of way

Well you'll have to pardon me for not flying in from northern California for the FAU game or USF games, but will pay big dollars to roll in for the FSU/Va Tech/big OOC games. If there's 5,000 others like me around the country, my original point stands. You need more capacity for big games. It wont be as intimidating without the added capacity IMO.

A perfect type of stadium for Miami, besides the beloved the Orange Bowl, is Okie State's stadium. It seats around 65K....it's a bowl and the whole upper deck are press boxes/skyboxes. 48K is too small

For the big game they can rent Sunlife stadium. 40-50k seats is perfect for everything else. Some people like to down play the importance of a new stadium with the "not this again" comments, but its an important asset for recruiting. Things aren't like they use to be. Even the NFL have trouble getting sellouts. We NEED a small, comfortable, good fan experience stadium

Even when we were in the middle of the greatest home winning streak of all time we rarely sold out the O-Bowl unless we were playing someone who traveled or had local alumni to buy up 10K seats - 50K is perfect bc even WHEN we are back to an elite level the city of miami just doesn't support sports teams..... I had season tix for the Marlins when they won it twice and heat season tix for 13 years......fans only show up (late) for the big games

55,000 with an open end zone like the OB. Add bleachers for out of town fans for big games.

They could always do like they did at the OB & put temporary seats up for the big games.. (assuming this stadium is []_[] shaped as well)

A 55K stadium would be perfect. But it's not the capacity preventing a private stadium option on/near campus, it's the traffic and parking. How do you solve that problem?

Not being there in south Florida, and not having in-depth knowledge of the situation, I know this was the dream and plan of Howard Schnellenberger, who said all we needed was a cozy little 45000 stadium. I think he wanted a campus stadium. He felt that with a smaller stadium, there would be no problem filling it, and season tickets would probably keep it sold out perpetually. He knew that with so many seats in the bigger Orange Bowl, people didn't feel the need to buy season tickets because they knew they could always get in and get a decent seat. With a smaller stadium, people would be lining up to buy season tickets early so as to not get shut out. This would keep the stadium filled for every game.

The story I heard or read back in the '80's was that the City of Coral Gables would hear none of it.

I know nothing about Tropical Park. I haven't lived in south Florida for 50 years, and I don't know if I ever went near it as a kid. I watched yesterday's game at someone's house and it was embarrassing to see so many empty seats.

This. If it's a "big" game I'm sure UM would up the ticket prices and/or raise the donation amount required to get certain seats.

I was going to argue 60K...but this would work. Although I'd prefer 60K with both end zones filled with permanent seats...loud.

I blame the lame Canes fans, who were watching yesterday's game on TV somewhere within 100 miles of the stadium. There were tens of thousands doing that!

:ohlord:

Maybe the U ought to re-evaluate their admissions as well, and cut down on the high number of wierd foreign types, who don't go to the games as students and will never go to the game as alumni.

(The U has it's share of weird foreign students)

I know it's a product of circumstance, but it's absurd that we have the 18th biggest stadium in college football for a school with 15,000 undergrads.

Louisville has a capacity of 56,000 Oregon has 53,800, Stanford has 50,000. We should be around there.

If we get back to consistently winning, 48,000 is too small. We don't need a 75,000 seat stadium, but 55-60,000 would be fine. 45,000 fans in a 55-60K seat stadium looks a whole **** of a lot better than in a 75,000 seat stadium.

It's a horse **** stadium as well. Was designed so that more fans were inside, shopping and watching the game on moniters than in the stands. Low Life Stadium.
