3-Star Edge Rusher Cole McConathy Commits to Miami

Not sure we have a “generational” talent on DL from a pure athletic standpoint.

Bain might be the closest but that’s strictly due to him being 36 stuck in a 19 year olds body. Hes working for it all.

Fact is, we’re still missing that ELITE physical specimen on the outside (Jaelan Phillips/Thibs)
There’s no one in college football right now that’s “generational”

Generational is Tiger Woods. It’s Michael Jordan. It’s Shohei Ohtani. People talking about generational with guys like Trevor Lawrence and ****.

It’s just people using a cool sounding word and looking ridiculous when they do it

Like let’s just stick with overusing the word “elite” that’s what we are good at here walk before you run type stuff

Dammit @MumbleRap now I gotta go take this heat out on the squat rack…

I think it also helped that the services were not as high on Bain due to his height and basic body composition. If he was 6'4 and rocked up he is a 5* and everyone expects him to be really good really fast.

Everyone who watched Bain saw him ragdoll whoever was across from him and I think the ranking services underestimated his work ethic etc. but I think Bain ended up in like the 60-80 range as a final recruit. So **** good player but somewhat flew under the radar and that is why I think it looked like he exploded onto the scene because outside of Miami he did not have a ton of hype or recognition.
Yes he wasn’t a 5 star but he was a top 100 composite player going into his senior year and never ranked below 212 in his rankings history. He finished ranked 63 in the country. Has he outplayed his ranking?? NO QUESTION!! But let’s stop acting like the sites viewed him as Anez Cooper or even Cole McConathy

They underestimated how strong Bain would become and how strong he was. Pause

That’s what the services underestimated, the room to improve his strength numbers like a beast.

Generational is ST26

They throw that word around way too often.

Im not at all, I said he was in that 60-70 range but a lot of kids get lost in that range, for example you could probably rattle off in the last few years a couple of 5 stars fair? I know I could. Now try to do that in the 50-100 range. Much harder to do for me at least. I am not saying they got it totally wrong just that if he was a 5* on all sites I dont think his "explosion" would have been as big because of how high he was ranked.

Chickillo first that comes to mind. Al Golden forever in debt to that poor legacy family for ruining such a great talent.
ehhh I am not going to defend Golden, he did ruin his college career and had him playing out of position and largely took away what he was great at but have you kept up with Chick at all recently? Dude has some serious issues and I know CTE is going to start being thrown around in connection with his name soon. Something aint right with him so even if Golden didnt make him gain 50 lbs he may still have been destined to spiral.

I don't think it had so much to do with not being hyped coming out of high school.
I think, as a freshman in the Dline, it's not at all expected or the norm for someone to dominate opposing linemen the way he did, and he did it regularly in every way.
It's much easier as a skill position player to do as a freshmen. But not when you're going against 300+lb grown *** men.

Yeah mental issues is completely separate though. AB has those same issues.

Chick lost out on 3/4 years of proper development because he had YMCA volunteer coaching him up. Even more hilarious that UM ran a 3-4 with Golden so him playing with hand in the dirt made even less sense.

All these past coaches are so frustrating man, even up to Mario forgetting how to properly end a football game. Hopefully we break some curses this season.

Then agreed completely. I was only chiming in on the "ruined such a great talent" portion of your post. Chick was well on his way to ruining himself for whatever the reason was but hard to trace that back to Golden.

Once you get done with that next set lemme know who you think is the last generational talent to 1) be at UM & 2) QB in CFB.

I guess everyone has their own definition. To me you just named some of the greatest ever. I think of generational talent as once a decade type talent.

I would classify Devin Hester as a generational talent (last one from UM imo), but **** he ain’t MJ 😂

Last generational talent at QB to me in CFB was Lamar.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he does. I don't remember the last time a white dude got this early praise. Good things coming. Need a token crazy white dude.

And seems like all the crazy White dudes on Defense always have Irish last names too just like McConathy lol
***an, Fitzpatrick, Brophy, Sweeney, Morgan, Patrick, McCarthy
