tbh kids dont think like that. they think theyre going to win the battle (theyre competitive) and that should be the attitude. it was the attitude here. If he decides OSU or elsewhere is the best place for him even if it is loaded at the position and he decides he can beat them out, good for him. I love that attitude.

i want Trader.. he's a very talented highly ranked local kid at a huge position of need..

but he's not Jeremiah Smith.. there are several other wide receivers who could end up being better than him in this class that we're in the running for, including Chance Robinson...

I get tagged with a slurper tag at times but here is a whiff. If you strike out on Scott, Stone, Breland, Jones from Blountown, Thomas from Orlando and polenesian kid from IMG. Thats a whiff and actually if you dont get minimum 2, its a whiff. Its quite clear these are who they are after among others.

Also you are right that its development that had us never winning the ACC. But we never aim to win the ACC, thats supposed to be a basement goal and if we want our goal which is playoff to play for a title we need to be ranked by the industry in and among the top schools. I said it before if you get a top 7 class for example it could be a top 3 class based on the eval pick ups who people are not necessarily high on based on rankings. A Frenkie, a Pulliam. You need to be in around the Bama, the UGA, the Ohio, the LSU. That is the basis of winning at a high level. Development means u can be a Pitt or Michigan or TCU which i would gladly take right now. But it means u can get blown out by one of those teams. Easily.

Not 1000% sold on JoJo being a WR at the next level tbh. I think his upside at DB paired with his ball skills make him beyond intriguing. Could see that switch happening in college. Similar to Sam Shields.

i guess that's why 247 has him listed as an athlete? everything I've seen him from, he's always been a WR... yet 247 lists him as an ATH...never understood why

I feel like we've crossed into "What is a woman?" territory with the "what is a whiff" question. Its not that complicated unless one wants to do all sorts of mental gymnastics to avoid the straightforward answer. If we have 8 blue chip DTs visiting and go 0 for 8, it's a whiff.

It’s what I was saying about Russell. Whether people liked the take, didn’t like the take etc wasn’t relevant to me. The timing of it all said to me (no sauces just logic hopefully) that he is part of the plan. In the past it’s like ok we missed on most of who we wanted, or we got them to commit before they should have, and then they bailed on us….so who’s left?

Not saying Mario doesn’t take Plan B guys or is infallible in recruiting, just saying I think in May this is the plan and once July is over we will see where we are at again.

Agree, its May and we have more top tier DL prospects coming through than maybe ever yet we still took Russells commitment. Clearly he is not a plan B kid to this staff.

This isn't a question about how well we are recruiting and whatever happens going forward doesn't make the Russell take better or worse. They took him because they flat out wanted him, not because they couldn't land another player. If there is a question it should be in regards to the evaluation. That wont be completely answered for awhile.

You gotta realize most guys on here are simply fans. Most are more than casual but their knowledge of the game is somewhat basic. People don't realize MOST kids that are recruited especially by bad staffs are mainly system fits. That's ALL Manny recruited. So what happens when a system is changing year after year. There's constant turnover in staff and players. You prioritize the portal? Well what happens is you neglect the development of the kids you recruit from high school to come here. Fact is it's a very different mental approach to be a high school child being recruited heavily and have multiple options opposed to a portal kid who's been exposed to what coaching is at this level. Exposed to what the majority of staffs do all around the nation. Plenty of staffs tear high school kids down to build them up in the image you want. It's a **** system but it's done by a wide percentage of them. Portal dudes come here for business and have promises made to them. It's stops the growth of numerous kids. Now the cycle starts again. That's why the people with a clue have been saying we want athletes, we want FOOTBALL players. I don't give a **** about 7 on 7. I want people that excell at football on my team and leaders. That's how you develope a standard. If we keep the same blueprint that's failed for **** near 20 years in place than why should we ever expect change. Continuity and comraderie that's what I'll take. To this day I still wake up and say let me check on some of my brothers. That's college that's NFL that's high school etc. When you develope that trust and those bonds in each other you excel. When coaches comprehend what it takes to really communicate with dudes they don't relate outside of football with well get ahead. I see plenty of that now. Team seems far closer together than I've seen in awhile. Leadership is starting to come into play and that's where we'll see accountability. Not just talk. I know. I went on a rant again. **** it.
