2023 NFL Combine & Miami Pro Day

Jesus, bro. You just made my eye twitch probably due to a very mild stroke resulting from the mere contemplation of our Steelers taking Richardson.

I wasn't a huge fan at the time of taking Pickett last year because I thought this draft was going to be wayyyy deeper at QB. If we somehow DID wait until this year and then maneuvered to waste a 1st round pick on that kid then I probably would have a real stroke.

Richardson is gonna get an entire front office fired. If a team loves him so much then they should just try to trade for Malik Willis instead. Same player- except Richardson is slightly bigger but Willis is faster. At least there was more mystery with Willis. Richardson HAS tape against real opponents....where he looks like trash.
And because he played at Liberty, Willis fell to the 3rd round whereas Richardson playing at UF will convince some GM to draft him way too high.

I was also lukewarm on Pickett. He was obviously a very good college player but I was not convinced how it would translate to the NFL. So far so good but the next step, from competent QB to above average QB, is a step the Daniel Jones’s and Sam (kid from USC the Jets drafted), have not been able to take. and many others. I am cautiously optimistic about Pickett.

On a side note for all Canes and Steelers fans, I am currently reading a book titled “Chuck Noll His Life’s Work”. Not only is it a very engaging read, but I just read that Dan Radakovich was on Noll’s early staffs in 1969-71. I always enjoy when the Steelers and Canes cross paths.

Watch out for Jon Gaines, a RG/iOL prospect from UCLA.

Only OL at the combine to crack the always impressive 4.47 20 yard shuttle, a good key metric for offensive linemen. His RAS had comparables to Evan Mathis, Ali Marpet, and Joel Bitonio. That's a projectable future starter on an NFL OL you can get at a discount.

Agree with everything in the first two paragraphs.

I'll definitely have to check out that book about Noll. He's a fairly fascinating guy. I also saw that Radakovich connection to the Steelers but I think I saw somewhere that our Rad said that Rad is most likely a cousin of some sort but that he didn't really know him. Leave it to Western PA to have multiple Dan Radakovichs floating around high level football in different eras! Our Rad is absolutely also a big Steelers fan.

A great book!

That is crazy about more than one Dan Radakovich, but like you wrote, probably not as crazy as I think it is.

Will Mallory, TE, Miami

Mallory came in a little light -- 239 pounds -- but he ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any of the tight ends (4.54 seconds) in Indianapolis and also surprised some scouts with a 36.5-inch vertical. Those are outstanding numbers for the veteran, who played in 59 games for the Hurricanes. He improved every season at Miami, even with erratic quarterback play, catching 42 passes for 538 yards last season.

In a great tight end class, Mallory had been a little lost in the shuffle; he was No. 11 in my updated rankings last week. Now, he's moving up a bit, and I could see him going in Round 4 or 5.

How would you rank these books? I ask because I will definitely read some more of them.
"Chuck Noll: His Life's Work", "The Chief" and another one called "Ruanaidh" (not pictured) are nice, in-depth reads. The Bradshaw and Cope ones are more airport/beach-style. There's another book called "Their Life's Work" that's a compilation of player interviews, so you get a lot of backstory and perspectives you wouldn't normally hear.

I can't believe Mallory was the fastest TE at the combine lol. Good for him but didn't show up on tape.
Yeah, speed was NEVER Mallory's issue. I can believe he was the fastest TE. His issues arrived when it was time to block another human male from destroying our ball carrier. Bruh just couldn't or wouldn't get it done. And what was worse.... was that we kept running him back out there to "try" again. FML

What the NFL combine constantly reminds me is we’re not in the same stratosphere in size, speed, & athleticism.

UGA had two Defensive players this draft alone running 4.3-4’s; they had an OLmen running sub 5.0. Michigan had a CB running a 4.26. Bama have a running back running sub 4.4.

Seeing Mallory at 6’4 239 running a 4.54, while all these other TE’s were 6’5+ at 260+ running 4.6’s, I’m just like ****. Seeing Tyrique as “our big CB” at 6’0 198lbs running a 4.45-5, & UGA has a big CB at 6’1 207 running a 4.36 or Christian Gonzalez at 6’1 198 running a 4.38, I mean….

We need those caliber of athletes again. For God sake, it was literally called Miami speed once upon a time. We desperately need that again.
I think you overreacting.

Bama aint have sh*t..Gibbs was a Gt running back that did a semester at Bama. He was that b4 going there.

Mallory tested **** near elite territory at his position.
Tyrique Stevenson plays above 200 pds..dude came here **** near 220. And ran that 4.45 swiftly.
Christian Gonzalez is a life long track kid who was at Colorado and Ringo was that since hs..you forgetting Stevensonw as a legit starter at UGA?. The guy they used in palce of him couldnt hold his jock on film or at the combine.
These are his numbers:
  • Height: 5-11
  • Weight: 192
  • Vertical: 33
  • Broad Jump: 9'8
  • 40-yard Dash: 4.66

To be real our guys were pretty outstanding at the combine...even Nesta tested better than BAMA dts. This wasnt the year to down um guys at the combine..because they pretty much matched up or did better than the big dog programs you named.

I do agree that we need to be faster overall...and i think Mario did that the last 2. Just didnt agree on Mallory or Stevenson testing comparisons.
