2023 NFL Combine & Miami Pro Day

What the NFL combine constantly reminds me is we’re not in the same stratosphere in size, speed, & athleticism.

UGA had two Defensive players this draft alone running 4.3-4’s; they had an OLmen running sub 5.0. Michigan had a CB running a 4.26. Bama have a running back running sub 4.4.

Seeing Mallory at 6’4 239 running a 4.54, while all these other TE’s were 6’5+ at 260+ running 4.6’s, I’m just like ****. Seeing Tyrique as “our big CB” at 6’0 198lbs running a 4.45-5, & UGA has a big CB at 6’1 207 running a 4.36 or Christian Gonzalez at 6’1 198 running a 4.38, I mean….

We need those caliber of athletes again. For God sake, it was literally called Miami speed once upon a time. We desperately need that again.

we have to recruit the elite plain n simple. The uniform aint making the player its the players, we need evals and close on the guys bama and uga want. Thats how you flip this

I think it’s more evals than anything. I agree w/ peeping what the opps r doing for sure, but what set us apart before was appropriate evals.

Christian Gonzalez is a great example; a fringe 4 star out of TX. We offered, but did not pursue. He visited ASU, Colorado, Bama, ND, committed to Purdue then committed to Colorado. Bro is on his way to being a top 20 NFL Draft pick.

We’ve done an absolute **** poor job of recruiting, in general. We’ve had plenty of blue chips on paper here, but for w/e reason, we’ve had a high bust ratio of those guys not panning out.

Wasn’t he begging for a Miami offer? Was that the dude that was constantly posting stuff with our gear on and we didn’t offer or offered but didn’t pursue?

At the skill positions, it’s mainly been poor fits & recruiting players that have low ceilings with limited athletic profiles.

For a long while, we were recruiting a bunch of RB’s & WR’s that lacked explosion & were playing them in systems that were ******, hence why they rarely ever produced.

At CB, we pretty much recruited a bunch of Safety sized Hybrids who were slow as sh*t & tried to play them at Corner. Our CB recruiting up until about 2021 was absolutely horrid, with miss after miss after miss.

The easiest way to get back to winning is to get faster as a team. Too many 4.6-4.7’s at positions that require speed.

Good ?; wouldn’t surprise me as that’s been an ongoing narrative, but not 100% sure on that.

Agreed 100%

Illinois is gonna have most of their secondary drafted

And we have no choice but to start DJ Ivey

Secondary has been a disaster

Has the 2nd slowest time among the RB’s thus far

Was Kenny the one we wanted to be a linebacker? Helps to have a Top 5 OL to run behind with a third NFL starting caliber OT playing at TE. I still would have taken Harris, Cheney and Rooster over him despite how well he performed for Georgia. Yes I’m O&G biased.

Luckily our evals and recruiting have both vastly improved and we should be in good shape for the next few classes. 2023 is under appreciated even as a Top 10 class.

We’ll get there soon. Just have to look at guys like Bobby Washington and Chris Johnson to know we’re on our way.
