2018 DE Andrew Chatfield's junior highlights

I hung with his coach for a while yesterday. He told me that Rumph communicates with Chatfield all the time but they haven't pulled the trigger yet. (obviously)

I gathered that he's on Miami's radar but he's just not a "take" yet.

IMO he's a Linebacker and situational pass rusher. I'm not so sure he's a full-time DE with his lack of size.
His coach said he's an awesome kid. Natural leader.

I agree Coach, although bammer runs a different scheme, he can play a Tim Williams-like role for us as a pass rush specialist. But unlike Williams, Chatfield does have the ability to play a traditional LB role, 40 time be damned. Will he be ready to go as an LB in non-pass rush situations from Day 1? I don't think so but he definitely has the aptitude to put it all together. But very, very, very few high schoolers have the innate ability to get to the QB that this kid does, and that will be the reason why Drew will make a big splash very early on at the next level...

I could care less about his forty time. All I need to do is look at his tape. Can't put any stock in high school forty times anyway. Some of them are run on very slow surfaces, outdoors, in wind, etc. I had a kid who was listed as a 4.72 on his ESPN recruiting page and he ran a laser 4.47 when he got to college. Chatfield is a 4.7-4.8 kid IMO.

And his change-of-direction and bend is legit!

+1000. A lot of porsters who doubt the kid's speed & agility on the field should also know that Drew is comfortable as **** playing LB. He didn't start playing with his hand in the dirt primarily until he got to AH. Up until his final years at Miami Gardens Ravens, Drew was mainly an OLB/MLB and he was dominant as **** in that role also. That lethal burst and elite change-of-direction he shows while making plays on QB's & RB's in the backfield would definitely translate in space, given his background with the position. On top of all that, the kid's just a wrecking crew and he knows it. Helluva work ethic also, on-field and in the books.

His coach told me that when Chatfield first got to Heritage (as a jit)...as a brand new player that nobody knew...among 5-star guys like McFadden and Gibson...he was already barking out encouragement in the weight room and on the football field. He said the older players were looking at him like "who's this kid?!" LOL

Said he walked in the weight room the first day and was like "Let's go boys! Let's get it! Keep pushin!" etc.

That's a trait you can't teach, man. That's special. It's hard to find genuine leaders, even in your upperclassmen. A Freshman/Sophomore stepping up like that is almost unheard of.
