2018 - 2020 3 Star Recruits at Oregon and results

Since there has been discussions about the number of 3 stars in this class at times, below is a list of all 3 star recruits from 2018 - 2020 recruited by Mario and what they have done thus far. 2021 was left out as those players only have 2 years under there belts.

Everyone can form there own opinion on Mario's ability to identify and develop lower ranked players.

2018

MJ Cunningham - Transferred after 2 years. 9 total tackles, 0 sacks in 2 years.

Andrew Johnson - Transferred after 2 years. No stats in 2 years.

Christopher Randazzo - Medically retired after 3 years. Played in one game in 3 seasons.

Christopher Randazzo - Medically retired after 2 years. Never played in a game.

Haki Woods - 25 tackles, 0 INTs in 2 years with no starts.

Travis Dye - 3,150 rushing yards, 21 TDS, 6 YPC in 4 years at Oregon.

Sione Vea Kava - No stats

Andrew Johnson - Transferred after 2 years. 3 tackles in 2 years.

Andrew Faoliu - Transferred after 3 years. 13 tackles in 3 years.

JJ Tucker - Transferred after 2 years. No stats in 2 years.

Karsten Battles - Starter at long snapper for 5 years.

Tom Snee - Punted in 27 games in 4 years.

2019

Kristian Williams - Transferred after 3 years. 25 tackles, 0 sacks in 3 years.

Suuav Poti - 6 tackles, no sacks in 4 years.

Trikweze Bridges - 63 tackles, 4 INTs in 3 years.

Cale Millen - Transferred after 2 years. No stats in 2 years.

Jayvaun Wilson - Transferred after 2 years. No stats in 2 years.

Isaac Townsend - Transferred after 2 years. No stats in 2 years.

JR Waters - Transferred after 2 years. No stats in 2 years.

Jamal Hill - 107 tackles, 2 INTs in 4 years.

Logan Sagapolu - Transferred after 3 years. 0 starts in 3 years.

DJ James - Transferred after 3 years. 70 tackles, 2 INTs in 3 years.

Treven Ma'ae - 32 tackles, 2.5 sacks in 4 years.

Brandon Dorlus - 66 tackles, 7 sacks in 4 years, 1st team PAC 12 in 2021.

Dru Mathis - 22 tackles, 0.5 sacks after 3 years.

2020

Trey Benson - Transferred after 2 years. 6 rushes, 22 yards in 2 years.

Maceal Afaese - 1 tacklez after 3 years.

Bennett Williams - 87 tackles, 5 INTs after 3 years.

Jackson LaDuke - Tranaferred after 3 years. 20 tackles, 0 sacks.

TJ Bass - 3 year starter. 1st Team All Pac 12 last 2 years.

Bradyn Swinson - 35 tackles, 3 sacks after 3 years.

Jaylan Jeffers - Tranaferred after 2 years. Played in 1 game.

Jared Greenfield - 15 tackles, 0 INTs after 3 years.

Marcus Harper - Starter in year 3

Faaoppe Laiolu - 2nd team OL. No starts in 3 years

Jaylen Smith - No stats after 3 years.

Jake Shipley - 8 tackles, 0 sacks after 3 years.

I guess this information tells us what we want it to tell us, right?

On the one hand, the 3 stars who stayed have provided depth and have not been heavily relied upon for meaningful contributions.

While an argument could be made that the hit rate is low due to poor evaluations of said 3 stars.

Interested to see how this thread unfolds.

Not caping for the overall post, but DJ James was a starter and one of the best CBs in the conference before hitting the portal after Coach left. He transferred back home to Auburn, not sure what he did this season as AU was a mess too. We even tried to get him here last off season.

Another interpretation…mario and/or his staff do a nice job of identifying 3 star RBs…Trey Benson and Travis Dye are both very good backs.

Trey Benson looked pretty good this year. Travis Dye and him wouldve been a nice 1 -2 punch up in Eugene this year had Mario stayed.

I’d be more concerned if we didn’t have to fill so many spots this year. Not every guy is gonna be an impact player. Some are always going to be depth. That’s just the name of the game. Especially in a day and age where top guys transfer around like girls they date

Personally think this is where Alonzo is going to add a ton of value. His ability to evaluate talent is top notch, if that translates from evaluating college kids to high school I feel pretty good going forward.
