The 11 class was on Golden.
Dude seriously? I get the schtick, you are in a race with IN/F*cktard to see who can be more extreme in trashing Golden, but at least try to be accurate on the things you are going to slam the guy on.
There is NO WAY you can blame Golden for 11. They guy took over at the 11th hour, and we had like 3 or 4 player committed. Think about that. If Golden got canned after next week, the next coach would have a SLEW of players committed to work with. NOW. Of course there are going to be guys who bail out in a situation like that, but there was literally NOTHING to work with when Golden came in. They were in a full scramble to get ANY bodies in here. That class, and its subsequent failure, is on Shannon. He did NOTHING recruiting wise at the end, and left the program in shambles.
It is the 2010 and 11 class that has put us in the sh*t hole we are in right now. People dont realize just how BAD those classes were. The OP is dead on. People think we have all this much better talent then teams like VT and Duke. The 2010 and 11 classes were two of the worst classes in modern UM history, and whats WORSE, is that much of the talent FROM those teams, like Storm Johnson and Eddie Johnson left the program. So what we were left with is most of the JAGs from two very weak classes.
Our upperclassmen are among the least talented to play at UM since the 70s. and that is why I have said, and will continue to say, that our problems, especially on defense, go much deeper than just Donofrio. The talent level, and depth, among upperclassmen, is attrocious. Once those classes work their way out of the system, this is going to look like a TOTALLY different team.
That's not to say Golden is definitely going to win an MNC here, or that Donofrio is suddenly going to become a great DC, but if we did NOTHING at all, I would bet serious money, that 2 years from now, this team is going to be SIGNIFICANTLY better, on both sides of the ball.
