12:30 press conference notes (D'onofrio staying)

Makes me ****ing sick.

Well at least I know not to get my hopes up anymore.

I had such high hopes for Al, but it's clear, he doesn't get ****!

Maybe YOU don't get this life "****"

Al simply has a set of beliefs that he ain't willing to breach in the name of the W.

You aren't D'Onofrio's friend and you just want more sacks from the front 4, so you don't give a crap, but Golden cares more than that.

If Golden is willing to fall on his sword for D'Onofrio, I think that says more about him as a man, than a National Championship ever could, but maybe that's just me looking at it through the prism of being a friend/person on the planet earth.

It's simply a matter of perspective. If you place winning above all else as a fan, then of course his loyalty to D'Onofrio will incense you, but if you look at it through the spectrum of being a person who has been someone's friend for over 20 years, I don't begrudge him his loyalty, it's the university's job to decide what standard they want to hold the football program to.
LMAO. Biggest load of heart felt bull**** I've ever read in my life. There's a reason why the saying "never mix business and pleasure" (in this case never mix business with friendship) is applied in these types of situations. Al Golden is an employee of the University of Miami. This is a place of business. Like any business, if someone is under performing, you give them an opportunity to correct that mistake. If they don't they get fired. In what world do you live in that, friendship comes before business in professional matters.

What Golden is doing is nepotism. If anything this reflects poorly on his character. He's placing his friendship above the players that choose to play for him or the school that has employed him. But keep lying to yourself about how high character of a guy Golden is. So the players that are constantly put in a position fail are not as important as Golden's friendship to Dorito? What about the school that hired him to win games, not as important as Golden's friendship either? Real stand up guy that Al Golden

Good job good effort with your bull**** life lessons. Now go root for North Carolina.

So now Miami fans should care more about Golden's friendship than actually winning. Gotcha.

Thanks for making it clear to everyone what you value. It sure as **** isn't the program.

That was hands down one of the stupidest **** i've ever heard. You should delete it before more people see this ****

After watching that, I understand his justification for keeping D'Onofrio. Not saying I agree, but he does make the case.

He showed respect for the kids who stayed when many bolted (for some of us, that's commendable). He tried as hard as he could to avoid saying that the upperclassmen all sucked, but we got the message. His coaching staff should not be changed at this point, because they haven't yet been able to work with defensive quality and depth. For anyone that is trying to be objective, it makes sense.

Having said that, he now puts himself on the clock, as quality and depth will not be an issue after this recruiting class, and to a lesser degree, the next one.

Golden asked why he waited until Sunday at 4 p.m. to release a statement on #PennState rumors when stories broke Friday. No real answer.

Manny Navarro ‏@Manny_Navarro 2m
Golden said the way defense will change is how some personnel is used in packages, etc. Said arrival of recruits will help #UM

Matt Porter ‏@mattyports 35s
Why did it take until 4 p.m. Sunday to release a statement? Golden said AD/staff informed him of how widespread "speculation" was.

Oh okay

Who the **** does this guy think he is fooling with this ****.

To be fair, no one was really talking about it at all during the bowl games, high school all-star games, or ESPN. Canes message boards were buzzing, but that's about it. If you are a non-message board fan, this past weekend was pretty routine as far as 'Canes news goes.

To be fair, Al is a big ******* factor in this program, and you just don't try to act like you were wearing your *** for a hat over the previous few days.

Why can't they ask if he interviewed for the Penn State job.

Beat writers have a weird line they have to toe. They have to get their questions answered every day, so they can't be truly objective (it will **** the people they have to cover off and possibly jeopardize their ability to further do their job) and they have to beat around the bush when the guy clearly doesn't want to answer a question. Just flat out asking uncomfortable questions isn't usually in their best long term interest.

Not true at all. I am a former MLS and college sports beat writer.

Jersey,
You paint this as Al' character versus wins and losses. In reality it should be Al's loyalty to his friend being placed above the job that he is being highly compensated to do. Its also going against everything Al has told these kids when he was recruiting them. Do you not think Al told these kids they would play for the national championship while at UM? How can they do that if Al is trading wins for friendship?

Not your finest moment as a poster, if you dont mind me saying. Im generally a fan of your stuff.

You're usually a good poster. But the point you're missing is that AG is being payed a handsome amount of money to win football games, not to be buddies with someone else. ****, I can be No'D's friend and be really loyal. Does that mean I can coach the team or should? No, of course not. He needs to start acting like a CEO of a business, and make the tough decisions. No'D is not a good friend. He's dragging this idiot down and will eventually cost him his job.

He should man up and resign. But we all know he's too selfish to do that. When did it start being okay for a guy making $2.5 million a year to not be held accountable. And then people criticize posters who are fed up with this farce. Un-facking-believable! SMH.

he was trying hard not ot say our senior sucked. imo he is too blame for being too loyal.

He's trying hard not to say he sucks, so he's hoping the assh0leface fans continue beating on the players to keep heat off him. Keep in mind, however, that these are the same players that Clouden's own recruits couldn't beat out 3 years into Clouden's hapless tenure.

And LULZ at the "he only played those guys because he's so loyal" horseshyt narrative floating around and picking up steam with the nincompoops. He played those guys because they were better than his guys. Period.

This^^^

Thank GOD, Al did'nt let the fickle fan base dictate his decision regarding the staff. I for one would like to see some continuity here. We have made steady improvement each year. I expect us to win at least 10 games next year.

Actually, our defense has regressed every year. But don't let facts deter you.

What set of beliefs isn't he willing to breach? Hiring capable people? I have a set of beliefs too. They involve sleeping until noon, getting up, scratching my *** and then eating some Cinnamon Toast Crunch. But I also have a job. i.e. People that pay me money with expectation that I will do what it is that they pay me to do. That is the transaction you sign up for in this society when you cash a paycheck. If I show up at work every day at 2pm, despite everyone else starting at 8am just because it is my belief that starting any earlier sucks, that doesn't make me some sort of man of honor.

If Golden is willing to fall on his sword for D'Onofrio, I think that says more about him as a man, than a National Championship ever could, but maybe that's just me looking at it through the prism of being a friend/person on the planet earth.

Mannn look, if you want a friend, buy a dog. Get a **** hamster. Out here in the real world? You do your job as best as you can. If your buddy is preventing you from doing your job, and preventing you from delivering on what you promised to 85+ kids, thousands of fans, and the school that signs your checks then he isn't your friend he's an anchor. You either try and get him to the level he needs to be at or you cut him loose. You don't get a free ride for life. Why should I or anyone else for that matter have a lick of respect for man getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to not do their job?
Why should you?

Being someone's friend means you're uniquely qualified to tell them something that they might need to hear, And the fact that you're friends means they just might be inclined to listen. In your mind simply being friends with the boss means never having to worry about being fired no matter how well you do your job.

How impressed are you by loyalty exactly? Let's say your Mom had a heart attack. She's about to go under the knife. Who do you want doing the operation? The guy who went to Harvard med school, and is the best surgeon in the country, or his buddy Craig who has had a ton of people die on the operating table but, "He's seen every episode of ER like 4 or 5 times, so you, know, he's definitely got some training."

Totally agree. 10-2 at least with a trip to the ACC Championship. 9-3 would not be acceptable. I predicted 7-5 two years ago and 9-3 this year. I predict 2014 as the year Miami returns to the big state. (Felt this way for a while) Anyway.... 10 wins + a bowl win (11) or bust.

the losses of ej and gionni hurt plus we had no dl depth. we were relying on a back up from va and a former temple committ in pierre. still, he played them too much. his answer after the bowl game was clear, "you want to go in their and bash the seniors" i think he felt he owed them because of the ncaa mess. he didnt. those kids couldnt get an offer from another top school.
