I probably should have put Muschamp as well but he went to a Sugar Bowl. Although on the flip side even Golden never went 4-8 or lost to a Ga. Southern type opponent.

Coker was not the worse coaching hire of the last 20 years.... He was bad, but he wasn't terrible...Dude wasn't able to sustain success, but he didn't let it crash and burn either.

He took a Ferrari and crashed it into a ditch. The program has never recovered from that horrible decision.

Coker has to
Be number 1. Ahead of golden etc. the guy was left with a dynasty and
Each year got progressively worse. He ruined what butch built in 3-4 years.

Lane Kiffin at Tennessee was about as rough as it gets, even if they were a mediocre team when he was there.

I disagree with many on this list. Cokerand Shannon would be one and two on this list because the hireing process was lazy and ended up being hires of convenience by Miami's worst AD ever. Golden was a good hire at the time. He was an experienced HC with some success. Then came the Shapiro thing. Ultimately he was over his head here but he kept the lid on a program that could have blown therefore for that alone he escapes my worst coach list. I don't see how you guys can put Charlie Strong on that list. He never had a chance atTexas. He had a good resume when he was hired.

Are you kidding me?
Coker with NFL talent won the NC and loss the following year.
Golden with NFL talent THAT HE RECRUITED went 6-7.

How the **** is Golden better than Coker?

Lol at Golden's losing record at Temple playing vs the MAC being a good resume. The Big East to MAC move is why he improved Temple.

If anything the Golden hiring process was worst because they had other options and picked Golden. Coker and Shannon (especially the former) were promoted in a large part because Miami didn't have a lot of other options. Coker was hired because Butch departed a week before signing day and they needed somebody to keep recruiting intact. It also is almost impossible to get a coach to leave their team that late. Shannon was hired because everybody from Maine to California was turning the Miami job down.

Radio has to be the worst coRch hired. Miami was a semblance of itself when they hired him. I never forget he sat behind me at a Canes basketball game and people were coming up to him to congratulate him and wish him good luck. I have never seen a person more uncomfortable than he was in that situation. I told my wife then and there he would **** the bed as coach. Man had no business being the head coach at the University of Miami.

The Rich Rod hire at Michigan was probably worse than the Golden hire at Miami. Not that Golden is a better coach but Rodriguez did less with more. He inherited a Michigan program that was in a slump (by their standards at the time) and then proceeded to go 3-9, 5-7 and top out at 7-6. Miami underachieved with Golden but they never went 3 and friggin 9.

Coker is by far the worst hire in the past 20 years. He took control over the greatest program at the time and ran it into the ground in a flash. There was no reason why he couldn't have the pick of the litter in recruiting and yet he failed to even leave a glimpse of talent.

This program shouldn't have been cheap in the 1st place or took it's que from players on the team for 1 National Title. The hire that should've been made was made, what 15 years too late. Richt should've been hired over clappy and this program would've never stumble so far into oblivion.

We were already in the dump when we hired golden. It would be hard to realistically say that it is a top 20 worst hire.

I mean for us **** yeah, but in college football idk there's been some tough ones.

Coker the worst ever - no coach has ever had more future NFL Pro Bowlers than Larry - period
- 2001: many people OUTSIDE of the program see this as one of the most dominant teams ever and they should have lost at BC and Va Tech
- 2002: Pitt and FSU could have been L's and with all do respect, wasnt the official that blew the game - Larry Coker

PS 2000 team just as talented as 01 - LC was the OC

Shula took over Bama when they were on sanctions - NO ONE wanted the job-
- he was a QB coach prior to taking on the job.
- everyone knows he did Bama a favor in taking the job
