I was thinking the same ****. Horton died to me when he dropped that TD vs Syracuse.

Who we get at QB is all that matters.
Yes, would have been nice to keep him but WR production under Dawson will never be an issue IMO. I don’t think he was a dominant #1 type by any means, and that isn’t just because he appears to be gone. He is replaceable. Again, QB is 940505028828x more important.

Yall are acting like Horton is the second coming of Calvin Johnson. 600 yards can be replaced. I would rather keep him but if he’s being greedy then see ya.
This is how I felt when Colbie Young bounced last year. I figured Horton could give us the same production at a lower price.

Going into 2025, I don't see anyone giving us Horton's production at a lower price on the current roster. He's using his leverage to get more $ from Miami or he'll get it elsewhere.

Bidness decision

Fair. But Manny is more of a go getter. Manny waste no time getting a QB. Mario moving slow
Yeah I won’t debate this because Mario has been more miss than hit in the portal

But Mario got Cam last year. That trumps anything Manny ever did in the portal. But we are in the middle of a **** show so we will see if that continues

No way to spin this if we can't keep him.

About as big a loss as this team could have…Was a top 4-5 returning player

Nah, someone like Mesidor leaving would be a bigger loss. We've been through this before with Colbie and bounced back just fine; Horton is another experienced player who developed in Mario's system but he can be replaced, IMHO. He can test the market to assess his value and then give us the opportunity to match, but I firmly believe Jojo can eat his snaps.

I wish schools could do these same things openly with coaches/athletes who underperform.

Manny>Mario in portal recruiting

Nope.
Not really.
To his credit, Manny got into the portal game early.
So did Mel Tucker at Michigan State and Norvell at fsu.
Manny because he was a shtty recruiter of prep talent, especially
on defense. The other two because they inherited teams lacking
talent.
But many more programs have entered the portal game.
Portal game has changed.
I would not necessarily consider Manny superior to Mario
in the portal game.

True

I wasn’t worried about Colbie because we had Horton who I thought was better

But same time this is the portal not gonna worry until things shake out

I like Horton's upside a lot more than Young. I'm more concerned here. He was supposed to be our senior leader at that position group. Feels like a JHH or Nesta level loss. Can he be replaced? Sure. But Horton leaving after he finally looks set to step up is deflating.

I'm not one to keep receipts, but I recall many fellow Cane fans rejoicing when the Portal transfer process became a thing in college athletics, and why not as early on we grabbed some good players.
I also remembered warning that eventually other schools will get in the game.
Schools with equal or more financial backing.
Well, he were are!
Always be careful with what one asks for.
I dread to think what our season would look like next year without the portal

I just don't understand (I guess I do) the reaction to losing a good player to the portal. I find it very hypothetical. When starting players from national championship teams are jumping in the portal you realize you have very little control on who leaves and who stays.

Miami WR Isaiah Horton has signed the papers necessary to enter the Transfer Portal.

The 6’4, 205-pounder from Tennessee caught 56 passes for 616 yards and 5 TDs this season.

Miami is expected to continue discussions with Horton and other top WRs in the Portal.

Mother F'er!

TrumpyCane will get killed for this but Sam Brown>Horton

Horton is ok, Brown actually has explosion but has a few bad moments but you saw plaus where brown took top off defense

Horton is a nice little possession receiver

Rivers
Daniels
Brown

That’s a solid WR core then need 1 or better yet 2 of the young guys to step up

Yeah a bit of a taste of our own medicine

I’m not convinced he’s leaving just yet he’s probably negotiating but could be wrong but I agree even if he’s not a WR1 all American type it’s never fun losing a guy as he’s getting better. That whole “development” thing the board loves to debate
