How much of the $80M did you contribute MOPE?
You're right, I don't have any business complaining since I don't pay his salary, this is a great take. My mistake, Mario is awesome, we are always the best coached team on the field and he should get a lifetime contract. Who wants to be in that ridiculous playoff anyway, much rather play in the highly regarded pop tart bowl.

When a Freshman moves onto becoming a Sophomore they are called rising Sophomores.

Lmaooooo. Really? So every freshmen according you is a rising sophomore. So again, if that is EVERYONE, what is special about our guys?

For some odd reason, I thought "RISING SOPHOMORE" was a title given to freshmen who had successful freshmen campaigns and have now raised there status going into there sophomore seasons. Guess I was wrong.

Mario showing his acumen once again, let's add them up, horrible finish to the season, hasn't fired inept DC, mediocre recruiting class, losing our best returning WR and missing out on portal top talent. Glad we gave this guy $80m
Somebody needs a diaper change. You crying too much

Dont blame him tbh. If I saw my school going after the top talent and believed in my abilities and other schools wanted me, id throw my name out there and try and get more money.

Pull up the Colbie Young thread from last year, probably the same world is going over comments occurring lol. I think we will be fine at WR…
I do agree that we'll likely be fine at WR. But there's a huge difference losing Colbie and still having X, George, and a young Horton that showed flashes. We won't have that anymore obviously.

Even then though, bring in two experienced portal WRs (e.g. Daniels and Rivers) and I think we're chillin.

So at the end of the day…high school recruiting really doesn’t matter all that much.

Not as much. It's just different. You have to come to terms with the fact players that you don't want to leave will leave.
It's the same for every team at every level of success.

He was very good, albeit no-showed the last three weeks of the season.

He’s replaceable and it’s not end-all-be-all. Just have to probably grab 3 guys out of the portal now. Two starters, one key rotational guy.

Right now, assuming Sam Brown leaves:

Trader
Carr? Ray Ray?
Chance?

Ew.
Seems like he was phased out a little in gameplan.. seemed they tried to get brown involved and then he never came thru in a couple of those game.. his targets seem to dip for whatever reason..

Would think that has something to do with it

Best of luck to Horton if he indeed moves on. He's worked hard and improved every year.

Wasn't a great idea to only play 4 WR when 2 of those were seniors, 1 nearly portaled last year (Horton), and 1 was viewed as 1 yr rental regardless of how he performed (Brown), now was it?

Will say, I don't think it's a great practice to get into a bidding war to keep a WR like Horton. He's been an outside possession receiver - a more productive one who has a much better attitude than the guy he replaced (Young), but a possession receiver nonetheless. He didn't produce much the last 3 games - 10 catches for 68 yds & 1 TD (long catch of 14 yds) - when he replaced Sam Brown as the 3rd WR. I have no idea if the coaches think he can develop into a consistent downfield threat or not. If they do, then you do everything you can to keep him.

However, similar to the JHH situation last year, poor rooster management at his position almost necessitates keeping him. Otherwise you have to replace him 2-for-1 in the portal like we did with JHH (Barrow + Cook). Barrow for JHH was a trade we won on, but we needed disruptive DTs even if JHH had stayed and Cook was a dud. We appear to be in the mix with a multiple very good outside receivers, so perhaps the 2-for-1 will work out for us this time, but this is a tough situation to be in when you're also looking for a portal QB.

Facts. He's solid though and better than Colbie. But the good news is portal is pretty deep at WR. What hurts the most is that he's a homegrown talent that the staff could sell to recruits from a development standpoint.

In this era of CFB losing key contributors that you don't want to lose is inevitable.

The portal, NIL, soft entitled players, agents, etc. are ruining college sports
College sports ruined itself by exploiting athletes for decades under the guise of "well, they are getting an education!" and continues to ruin itself by taking forever to create a system that would help a lot of these issues. This level of athletics takes nothing but half-measures (actually, fractional-measures) to get anything done to align the industry with modern norms.

Its not ok to have players prop up a multi-billion dollar industry and not pay them..."an education" would be like your boss saying "well, we'll pay you in professional development." A part of the total compensation package, sure...but you ain't working for free, pal.

Horton without a sure fire stud (Ewers/Mateer) won’t matter in the slightest tbh

Based on the talent and youth it appears team will have, Canes aren’t winning more than 8 with most WRs in CFB.

I’d guess by the wording used here, he’s gonna negotiate a raise and likely end up coming back. Just a hunch.

Idk how college coaches do it tbh. I guess the paycheck. But half your job is just roster retention and making people happy

It's must he insane for them. It's like the NFL free agency except there are no contracts so you can't predict when someone becomes a free agent.
