I agree with you, to a point. Horton produced this year, but, he was a one-trick pony. I get the experience factor you speak of and I agree it is important, but that can easily be overcome in the portal. I would venture to guess that there is no shortage of WR's in the portal that give you more threats and perhaps even the same short slant **** for way less money if this happens to be a cash grab by Horton. This is why I seriously don't get the outrage on here. I guess its par for the course with this fanbase always *****ing about something.

I absolutely agree with you that a QB portal grab would get the juices flowing. Whether that be a young stud with years left that can come in and compete (ex. Mendoza, Nolan, etc) or a splashy 1-year rental in Mateer. I'm stoked about Luke Nickel and happen to think he is the future, kid has moxie galore. Nickel reminds me alot of a young Dorsey. Regardless of who is behind center next year, you can't ignore the fact that he will be behind a very good O Line with a strong RB room. With Dawson's scheme juices flowing from this year, I'm not worried one bit about the QB position (just me). I would rather this staff fix the MAJOR problems on the backend of the defense which is way more in need of an overhaul than the offense.

My take is that if we can have a solid offense (Top 25) and a solid defense (Top 25), we can easily win 10 or more games next year. We don't have to have the #1 offense or vice versa. We need to be more well-rounded across the roster, especially defense. Just get me stud DB's and a legitimate DT and we should be fine.

Just my take.
Agree with much of this.

We should know whether we have a real shot at Mateer either by the end of today or tomorrow, if he leaves Norman without committing. If he gives us a fair shot, I'm optimistic. Also optimistic that we'll be able to quickly pivot to another QB who, if we fix some of our issues on defense, could get us into the playoff next year. I prefer Robertson - if he's amenable - over Mendoza, but I'm not going to grab a pitchfork if it's the latter.

While it isn't ideal to have our WR room sans Horton when trying to get a good portal QB, no QB was more likely to come here to throw the ball to Horton as his #1 or #2 WR.

Once we decided to lean on the veteran WRs and not give the young guys meaningful game action we were always going to end up in this tricky situation in which the portal QB attracts the portal WRs or the WRs attract the QB, but we have no idea which is the cause and the effect. As you alluded to, more than anything we're selling both on Dawson and his offense. I do think it would be best if Dennis' bat signal today is for an elite portal WR. Think that would increase the chances Mateer leaves Norman without committing.

Im over this **** bro. Leave if you don't wanna be a cane breh. Someone mentioned “culture” earlier. I hope this is the only culture question as far as potential starting players go, on the team.

This culture thing is so over used every team will have transfers out to a new culture, it is what it is. As long as you have a culture of work hard, and play every down like its your last with maximum effort, that culture between the player and the player himself.

If i can’t trust my teammates on and off the field then wtf are we doing!? Culture has to mean more than just working hard and leave it on the field nonsense. I cant imagine this is the message the coaches are telling their team; “the culture between you and yourself.” ????

Culture usually gets brought up every year when the winning team holds up the national championship trophy

You’re right, Bama hasn’t had any WRs drafted. Lol. Nothing to do with logos, either. NFL personnel folks don’t care if you have a U on your helmet or play for Mankato State.
The only thing impacting Colby Young’s draft status will be how NFL teams view his off the field issue. He is who he is as a player.
Definitely not true.....His production took a hit before the off the field issue occurred. I'm not going back and forth anymore this convo is stupid you are entitled to your opinion.
