So many ways to get the “best 5” on the field I’m trying to hold back my enthusiasm haha

Rivers
Mauigoa
Lee
Cooper
Bell

I would love to see that combo with the caveat being I still think Samson and/or McCoy can make the leap and nap the LT spot (or RT if Bell is as legit as he looks)

Best part is I know these coaches will have it locked down
Grain of salt here but both Gabby and Lake said on their last podcast that Bell is going to need a year to develop.

If Samson heals up well and continues to develop, would you potentially bump Rivers to LG?

Yup and we still have Kinsler who they are apparently high on. He may need another year but with that line we can afford to give it to him. **** man our OL is huge across the board.
I didn’t want to mention it during the season for obvious reasons

But holy **** what were the snap counts for these guys?

Not only was our line great, we had basically zero injuries. Odds are slim that happens again just the nature of football

So yeah I agree the depth with guys like Kinsler looks great

The good thing with that five is it seems like your best five are also all at their natural positions. There isn’t a shoehorn situation where you beat five has three natural guards where one has to move outside to get them all on the field.

That would make sense to me. We’ve seen a lot of that over the years so I was hesitant to just give him a starting role. But like you’re saying, there’s a long time to go before our first game so who knows

Pretty sure he was a 4.0gpa plus kid coming out of high school. I remember academics being huge for him and his family. I believe he comes from a military family too.
I’m always glad to see these young fellas make education a priority. Doesn’t happen often enough. One advantage of the transfer portal that’s not often talked about is the opportunity for players to get another year or 2 in college and the opportunity for a grad degree - for free.

We’ve had this talk here and there a few times I think Mauigoa can play anywhere. He could be a Hall of Fame left tackle down the road and I wouldn’t be surprised

I just loved how we used Cohen last year and I think he could be even better in that role. Mauigoa and Cooper at guards, the way we liked to use their athleticism….man…

Ryan Rodriguez or Mario's nephew!
After Rodriguez's struggles with snapping against BC and having to take multiple timeouts just to get Lee back on the field, I'd imagine Mario doesn't trust him much at this point.

I'd imagine that's the move, especially if Rivers is coming back to improve his stock. Have him slide into Cohen's spot alongside Samson.

Maybe half way through the season. But Samson has barely played any snaps and has been out with an injury so not even getting practice time.

If anything, you move Francis to LT, Rivers to LG, and McCoy to RT as he's got experience. Maybe Samson eventually gets some PT halfway through the season or steps up because of an injury. But guy needs to recover and also still needs development.

I agree. I really don't have to go to the portal with OL. Continuity matters so much up front and it feels like we are starting to establish legit depth for the first time in ages.
My hope for best 5 would be:
Samson
Rivers
Lee
Cooper
Mauigoa

With McCoy, Kinsler, Bell, and Rodriguez as the second group.

He hasn't progressed at all he been here 2yrs right?

Rodriguez worked his way into a role as an extra OL. He went to Columbus so I'm sure Mario, Mirabal, Ruiz, Alonzo Highsmith, Jorge Mas will do everything in their power to hand him the job.
This is such a delusional theory that many of you actually believe. If that was actually the case, we'd be offering millions in NIL to the Cal QB to get him back home.

Cooper and Mauigoa played right away. I wonder why they would think that about Bell?
