I've been telling you guys, we're not going out and grabbing all these extra portal players. We got Cohen, Lee, Brown and Mauigoa who are immediate impact starters. Xzavier Henderson will help the receiver room. We really just need to grab one DT and a corner not named Jaden Davis and I think we close up shop.

Right lol, well he didn’t get injured and missed time at the end. Maybe he gets ten sacks if not hurt ?

WHat!!!!! Deen didn't play thru an injury in the spring game, he's soft throw him off the team, make him walk back to his hometown. lololololol

Nope not USC. FSU who nailed it out of the park with their portal pickups for the 22 season. Think it goes down as the best in portal history thus far. Better than Michigan states team because fsu returned all the pieces for a 2nd year while Michigan state was a 1 year wonder.

We all define hits and misses differently. We agree on the grand slams/big time hits though. Not producing or showing flashes on a 5-7 team is a miss whether they were logging snaps due to injuries or not. But that’s just my opinion and I imagine others feel differently

That is fine. I can look at FSU and do the same. I would actually argue FSU simply evaluated better for that one year, no doubt. They did not get an Addison, or Bear, or Williams, or Quinn Ewers, like a known stud that everyone was after. They got some lower ranked kids or G5 kids who translated great. We have some of that in this current portal class so too early to call it either way. **** one of the guys that did great for them the WR wilson was a 4* in HS and they downgraded him to a 3* transfer, that is why I say they did a better job evaluating the lower kids and I just do not think that model is sustainable with that type of hit rate. I want to say the ONLY 4* transfers they had were Jared verse and Trey Benson.

For 2022 FSU also signed:

Malik Feaster- played in 4 games, 1 tackle
Jazston Turnetine - did play but was a JAG, was I believe third string and injuries forced him into a role.
Winston Wright - no stats injured
Deuce Spann - 8 catches 64 yars
Pittman - 32 catches 330 yds (sorry if Ladson is a bust with 300 yards Pittman has to be a miss)
Kayden Lyles- no stats - injured
Bless Harris - played one game then injured.

They signed a total of 13 players, I just listed 7 misses, so over half the class was a bust and they hit it out of the park and we were abysmal? I understand and agree it is subjective but I am trying to play within your sandbox and still just dont see it.

Lol, tell that to Manchester City, Chelsea, UGA, and Alabama.
I don’t follow the EPL. But Pretty sure Manchester City has never spent the most money in the EPL. So it’s not like they’re vastly outspending everyone else and winning championships because of it. Chelsea is the one that usually pays the most and how many championships has that won them? It’s not like it’s guaranteed them the trophy. …btw I’m not saying Miami shouldn’t spend a lot. Ultimately we have to be in a certain spending bracket to even be in the competition. But there’s a difference in spending $16M/yr wisely and spending $18M/yr stupidly.

Like the Warriors are now spending way more than anyone but every player besides Wiggins was their own draft pick. They just have to pay to keep the guys.

Yeah UgA and Bama won, not what have Texas, A&M, USC done with all their spending? Let’s not act like the Texas schools haven’t spent more than Bama or UGA… it just didn’t lead to championships

Exactly… this is where it gets subjective.

In my mind:
Turentine is a hit because he was a highly contributing member of the best offensive line in the acc and the most explosive offense in the country. The same goes for Pittman. Contributing member of arguably the best offense in the nation as well as a solid return man. While Ladson was a non contributor on one of the worst offenses in the nation with an anemic receiving core where many posters on this board probably could have logged snaps

Agree on all the other mentioned and had them down as such.

The bold is accurate.

UGA and Alabama aren’t comparable. If they can outbid everyone in an NIL world and win multiple NCs then yes. Right now, they’ve proven that they can flex up to $30M (allowing for the reported maximum pre-NIL bag of $300K for 85 students). What happens when they have to outbid ludicrous offers of $7M for a single player.

That same maximum-bag, pre NIL outlay may become $200M annually within a decade if they try to outspend everyone else, and I’m unsure if even those schools are willing to take on a Golden State Warrior payroll and the political optics that go with it.

Eh that is just difficult because Turentine likely does not play but for the other 2 being injured. He was a member but was a weak link and likely goes undrafted if I had to guess. I mean our Dline played well and Agude was behind people and he "contributed" to the DL and if messidor or someone else got hurt he likely has a much bigger role and likely is in the hit category.

For pittman vs ladson we will just have to disagree. Pittman gets credit because they had "arguably the best offense in the nation" yet could only muster 30 more yards than Ladson in arguably the worst offense in the country? Both were third on their team as far as receiving yards yet one was part of the best offense and one part of the worst. FSU's strength was their running game and Travis legs, then next up was Wilson the WR, Pittman should have been better arguably.

Even pushing both of them to the hit category now we are at 5/13 miss. Roughly 40%

Miami had 11 transfers probably 6 were misses so 54%. Again maybe it is just an issue with your description but I cannot see how 40% bust rate is a home run and 54% is abysmal.

I don't know what the cap is that they can afford, but I do know that they have zero qualms about spending up to that amount.

This

People are delusional with the portal that much is glaringly obvious

Not just that but it makes no sense to overspend on a couple of rentals when we need upgrades at basically every position on the team
Add to that you’re trying to build a culture and then you bring in guys that may be bad character kids just to say you added guys.

Sure, but whatever their cap is May end up being nowhere close to what it would take in a few years to keep bribing in the talent that they were getting pre NIL.

If the going rate for a single five star defensive tackle becomes $10M per year, Alabama is going to have to decide whether they want to spend that x 3 for three blue chip DTs. And be willing to up their existing players.

Overall there is no salary cap except what the school and its boosters are willing to spend. For Miami, it might be $15M today. Or Alabama in 2026, it might be $70M. But for Texas in 2026, it might be $350M.

Bottom line their hits were grand slams and led them to 10 wins and a **** good chance at an acc title this year. Our grand slams led us to 5-7 (injuries I know). The 2023 additions appear better on paper but still looking at 7-8 wins if things bounce our way. The two programs portal acquisitions aren’t comparable at this time.

Spring portal was like shopping at TJ Maxx. Not a lot of premium quality there.

Riley at USC brought his Heisman QB to LA with him. Of course they are ahead of us right now. To be expected.

This Miami roster isn't nearly as bad as most of you make it out to be, just like it wasn't nearly as good as you made it out to be last year. As usual with CIS, it's "which way is the wind blowing." Coming off a down year, everyone is mopes. We have enough dudes to compete in the ACC.
