We 're spending it on high school recruits, we did last year and attempted to do it for Noland. If it were at the right position, we'd do it in the portal. Did anyone really believe we had a realistic chance at any of the top spring portal entries? They all seem to have been back channelled.

People are delusional with the portal that much is glaringly obvious

Not just that but it makes no sense to overspend on a couple of rentals when we need upgrades at basically every position on the team

We just outbid Bama for TVD and Cohen.
Right, we’re out-bidding where we need to. Gotta protect TVD and fortify the O-line, plus keep your QB. Totally valid there.

We’re just not willing to bid the same and as frequently for other guys that are 1-2 year rentals. We’re not shelling out money like USC is because we have more problems that can’t be fixed by 2-3 guys.

So, what's your point? Have you done a Memmon like analysis of USC's roster? Maybe they had they had talent that was too young that needed another year. Maybe that combined with a new staff increased their rate of development.

We know about our roster. 7-5 was done with smoke and mirrors and could easily been 5-7 or worse. We were poised for a tumble, that's why we all wanted Manny gone, remember.

Absolutely true.

But we are still going to get these ridiculously idiotic porsters who think that "last year's record" and "recruiting class rankings" will automatically equate to wins and losses, or be an indication of whether one coach is better than another coach.

They were 4-8 in 2021, now they’re capping off the pieces for a playoff team. We were 7-5 in 2021 and are hoping to piece together 7 wins this year…
We lucked into TVD playing out if his mind in 21. And still won those 7 games by a combined like 10 points. How easily could 7-5 turn into 4-8 with a few plays in all those close games. TVD was the lipstick on a big fat nasty pig.

Haven't we gotten to the part in the argument where we blame coaches because Duke did better last year with a first year coach?

If not, here it is. Just trying to move this along so we can get to some new material.

It’s incredible. They literally want Miami to overpay for every player like USC is. A strategy that nearly every elite program doesn’t do. I know Miami isn’t going to do that.

I mean...you're not completely wrong that we are not outbidding everyone else and paying top dollar for 1-year rentals.

But we've been more than willing to invest in guys with 3 years of eligibility or more.

It's still a small sample size. Last year, we didn't have Alonzo helping with his evaluation team during the Portal periods, and we also rushed a few Portal grabs last year in the early phase. Some of our best 2022 Portal guys came to us the latest in the process.

This year, I think we did well in the first round. This second round is still incomplete. Lots of posters are confusing "Portal entry announcements" and "leans" and "public information from 247" for actual verbal commits and enrollments.

If anyone actually looks at the existing verbal commits for this round, there aren't that many. Are Colorado and USC and F$U and Louisville doing well so far? Sure. But there's still time for UM to make an impact.

I hope that some people saying these things are just being angry because we’ve sucked for so long and the turn around isn’t happening as fast as they would like

Because some of the comments being made are so far removed from how the world works that it has to be satire

Colorado. IN THEORY (and a lot of these kids are going to be very disappointed soon).
In theory! I don’t think they are spending like USC is, though. USC’s budget is much bigger and more aggressive because they know Caleb is the best QB in the nation and that schedule is crazy weak. So they are throwing the bags at anyone with a pulse.

I don’t believe this is a strategy that is going to be efficient long term.

CIS likes to clown f$u, their apparent lack of funds, corny Coach, lackadaisical recruiting efforts, comical social media campaigns, etc. But, here’s the truth:

- That clown school has beaten us two straight years and embarrassed us at home.
- f$u have out recruited us in the Portal for two straight years with better talent identification, acquisition and development.
- f$u are currently out recruiting us for high school players although we did out recruit them the last two years.
- Prison Mike has done an excellent job turning Travis from a one dimensional QB into a weapon and Heisman candidate (he ain’t that good).
- f$u has momentum. Miami is still in the “show me” phase when it comes to the national media.

Not sue why people keep pushing the “they broke” narrative because they have ALWAYS found ways to pay players under the table, at the table, or in kind with free shoes, cars and other goods.

We can continue to mock them, but they are “winning” right now and it ****es me off.
This is exactly why I am so irritated with our portal right now.

You forgot Ladson and Caleb Johnson. Both misses.

2022 season
Ladson- Miss
Johnson- Miss
Lichtenstein- Miss due to injury that should turn into hit this year
Moultrie- Miss
Denis- Miss
Sagapolu- Miss

I think 2023 will be better but not good sign on early reports of gore, roberts, and Dean

I haven't heard anything negative about Deen. And Cohen, Lee, Francisco and Brown are triples or home runs. I think 2023 portal is pretty darn good so far. Just need more.

Who else is spending like USC?
Oregon did but only really for high school. Can say the same for Tennessee and honestly UF. Usual suspects will for certain guys like always.

I slept on it because the fan in me was getting impatient when there’s so many players in the Spring portal that would take this team’s floor from 5 wins to 7…but today I realize it’s the right move long-term regarding building through high school classes. It’s also the safer move long term. If you like a bit of risk, then USC is the perfect example. Two ends of the spectrum there - either A&M-esque results, or a Natty.

Now what I don’t think is refutable is that we need to show improvement this season. And I’m not talking 6-6 really; I think in order to garner the high school class Mario truly wants, we’re also going to have to win 7 games + spend an honest amount (not overspend). This strategy will be all for naught if we go 5-7 again.

The other thing is our portal gurus (if that’s the MSU guy, Mario, Alonzo, all of the above, etc.) need to be better at portal evals if we’re not going to spend. We need adequate depth, not the Thomas Gore’s and Terry Roberts will be great on STs kind of pickups.

We’ve done well in the portal to date, anyone who refutes that is asinine. We have a ton of starters or guys in the top 3 of their respective positions from the portal. However, each miss feels like five with our current roster. Even the misses need to be somewhat serviceable, not flat out trash.

Mario’s 1st year portal evals were borderline abysmal. We need the staff to do better in year 2 portal wise. I like the pieces we got in 1st wave but more is needed in 2nd wave… and obviously need more hits and less misses to make this team competitive enough to sell improvement for recruiting.

Abysmal may be a little harsh....

Hits and starters last year: Henry Parrish, Darrell Jackson, Mesidor

Depth/rotational guy: Caleb Johnson, Agude, Lichtenstein

TBD: Daryl Porter, Dennis

Likely Miss: Ladson, Moultrie, Sagapolu

I imagine you are comparing this to Riley at USC and yes while Williams and Addison were big hits have you heard of:

Carson Tabaracci (3* LB did not play last year moved to offense this year)
Bobby Haskins (OL did not play) ,
Earl Barquet (played in 4 games no stats)
Terrell Bynum (16 catches 159 yds 1 td for reference ladson had 298 yds and 1td so if he is a miss so is Bynum),
Sinjun Astani (played in 2 game no stats)

So would you likewise call that abysmal?
