Don't think we should give out portal scholarships to player who will never play. He would be at best the 3rd team Center or guard for us.

If we offered a horribly undersized center, that tells me either big baby will be portaling out or ryan rodriguez sucks and he'll also be portaling out.

If those two guys are still on the roster AND we bring in cristobal, then I have no idea what to make of it especially if it's via a schollie.

Gaby is saying he expects us to offer a scholarship and portal spot.

**** off, MackBammer.

Gaby can say whatever the **** he wants, doesn't make it true. I don't go to your place of employment to smack Gaby's **** out of your mouth.

We just had a guy who was recruited in 2018 and on-scholarship at DUKE choose to walk on at Miami.

So, please, tell me what a "portal spot" is, genius? Please, I'd like to know. Because the only thing that matter is 85 scholarships. There's no such thing as a "portal spot".

Again, for the millionth time...nothing matters until August. And if we are STILL under 85 scholarships in August, does anyone give a **** if we award a scholarship to a walk-on? Even a walk-on named Cristobal?

And for the record, you don't know anything about UM. Particularly "tuition remission". Had several friends at UM (including one girlfriend) who had relatives who worked at UM.

Please, just stop talking about anyone with the last name of Cristobal. You don't know what you are talking about, and the fact that you keep citing Gaby as your primary source is proof of that.

I don’t really have a dog in this fight, but I think it’s naive to think the 85 roster spots don’t matter. Every single year, at the end of the recruiting cycle, we are all @ing @TheOriginalCane to get clarification on how many roster spots we have left. If this is a waisted scholly for Mario’s Nephew, than that is one less spot that can be used at that time. I don’t want to be in a spot where we don’t have enough room to bring in a prospect that we like because we gave a nepo-scholly.

Also, I’m not buying the “he can come in and compete for our back up C spot.” Because we just brought in two OL transfers that followed our coaches from Oregon, and all reports out of spring say our backups look like walkons.

While I tend to agree with you, I asked the very same "85 spots" question of one of the writers, and I was told that if certain guys Portal OUT of Miami, we may end up at under 85 this year (at least before we give scholarships to walk-ons).

Also, I'd point out that with every 3/4/5 star player wanting to start ASAP, there are fewer and fewer players who want to be backups for 4 years and starters for just 1 year, even if that one year could vault them into the NFL Draft. Nearly every player in the Top 1000 sees themselves as "three-and-done".

So I'm not going to worry about Lou Cristobal until August. August is where we will have our final answers. Don't forget, we took a running back LATE last year, and he actually saw the field. "Grad transfers" really complicate what we used to know about scholarship slots.

I trust that Mario is going to use every NCAA loophole possible to get talent on this roster, even "depth" talent, even "character" talent, even "backup/scout team" talent.

Are you even really a UM coach if you don't bring in a family member?

Shannon -> Center Xavier Shannon his son
Golden -> Duhnofrio his wife
Richt -> QB coach Richt his infant child
Manny Diaz -> brought in himself by his papi
Mario -> Center Luis Cristobal his nephew

You'd think that replacing the AD, HC, the entire staff and most of the roster would have changed some of the arguments. If giving a scholarship to a relative on a roster that probably won't reach the 86 limit is the biggest problem we have, then we byke.

Can someone talk to me about Dylan Day. I see that he's not rated in 247. Listed at 5'11' 165 lbs which really means 5'10' 150-155 lbs. Has anyone seen this ct play?

Xavier Shannon discussion notwithstanding, the fact we just landed a top local WR and one of Guidry's handpicked CB recruits (our position of greatest need) over the past few days is super exciting. And we appear to have made big moves across the board.

I may not like everything Mario does. But he's still elite as a recruiter, which at the end of the day is the most important element to get us back to winning championships.

p.s., Guidry seems like a homerun. Love his scheme, love his coaching personality, and he can recruit. I can't recall one recruit that Steele, Manuela or Dorito brought in.
