Yes but it’s tricky to recruit RBs for depth. They all want carries. @JayCane20 said it and I agree- the best option may be recruiting a KR who also can play RB.

Lofton is another option. I think he can be a 5+ YPC back in the ACC. But we would need to add a TE.
Who are we afraid to hurt their feelings in our RB room? Fletcher? You bring a good running back and see what happens. You end up with Lyle and the portal running back balling out.

Speak for yourself, guy. Bet you thought Dorsey was mid too.
For you to compare Mendoza to Dorsey in any way, shape or form is asinine. Ken was highly spoken of before he had to come in for an injured Kenny Kelly. Butch Davis had raved about his football I.Q., and about his ability to read defenses and get the ball to the playmakers at practice.

Mendoza, on the other hand, showed very little while at Cal. To pay this young man big money to come be our starting QB would be a big mistake, in my opinion.

All I’m saying is the same way Dorsey was able to win when surrounded by elite talent I think Mendoza can do the same for us next year. All we need to do is upgrade the RB, WR, TE, DL, LB, CB, and S rooms and bring in a top notch defensive coordinator and I think Mendoza has more than enough to get us over the top.

Not this again. You can have a 99% chance of not getting hurt and go win a meaningless bowl but potentially lose millions of dollars.

Or you can guarantee yourself those millions of dollars and not play.

The choice is easy. You should watch Jake Butt’s video where he runs through everything he lost out on.
Smfh, Jake Butt is a TE that had no shot of going in the first round lol. It's not like he was even guaranteed to be a 2nd pre-injury, that's just what his projection was. We see yearly how far guys can fall, especially unathletic types like him. He ended up in the 5th. Not all that crazy of a fall. Plus he literally had an injury policy that paid him half a mill. At the end of the day if he was a good player, a torn acl wasn't preventing him from getting his 2nd contract lol. Yall really acting like a torn acl for a TE in 2016 was a career killer? Dude wasn't all that good, period.

If Cam ward tears his ACL tomorrow in practice or while working out for the combine - you know entirely possible freak accidents - then he will still be a top 3 pick in this upcoming draft. Period.

I'm not going to criticize guys for staying out of non-cfp bowl games, but lets not act like it's some crazy decision to play, or that there is some insane amount of risk, or that there is no benefit either. At the end of the day why even play the season at all? Why doesn't jeremiah Smith just go and workout all day for the next 2 seasons and not risk an in-game injury? I mean he is currently viewed as a 1st rounder right? ....

@DMoney Any chance Martinez returns? Would love a 3 headed monster with Martinez, Fletcher and Lyle especially with the QB spot looking like it'll be much less proven... but with the way college fball is going these days I'd be afraid 1 would transfer out.

Nah. I’ll talk about whether Mario is worth it now. He had cam ward, an easy schedule and was 9-0 going into November and lost to GT and Syracuse including a 21 point collapse against the latter. His latest high school recruiting class was a mediocre one at 15 and he’s let good portal QBs go to Duke and UVA while he didn’t even get a visit from Mateer. He’s had more resources than anyone in the ACC to buy staff and talent over the past 3 years and he’s what at 21-15 or so in record including taking manny’s 7-5 team and going 5-7 with losses to MTSU for good measure.

Yeah, I don’t have to wait any longer. There’s enough data out there now. He’s not it.
Well, just look at Kirby Smart. He went 8-5 his first year and then. Oh he started winning double digits every year.

Okay, look at Sarkisian. He went 5-7 and 8-5 his first two year, then 12-2 and 11-2. ****, Maybe Mario really does suck.

With the difference being that in year 3 here we remain the dumbest team in the country and we’re only bailed out because of we had a once in a generation QB season (which you have to give Mario credit for recruiting).

The on field product, other than Ward, is not close to elite.

Also got to give him credit evolving offensively. Many here including myself, never thought he would, but he did. That allowed Cam to have the season he did. He deserves credit for that.

Yeah it's my point, let's operate out of fear for the 1% chance a major injury happens. Even then, the date shows players still make the NFL, and still make millions, and it is NOT a career killer.

My whole premise is Agents used 1 or 2 injuries out of thousands of players playing in bowl games to push a fear tactic agenda to get players to quit on their team and not finish out the season.

We’re about to enter his 4th season. Tell me how Mario has matched the level of resources he’s been afforded with commensurate success then.

The team just won 10 games and you’re asking me that? Did you see the roster Manny left? Would those same NIL backers have funded another coach? This year we’ll see if he takes a step back or not without Ward.

Land me Lucas, Blay & Convenience(I’ll say his name correct if we land him) and we cooking

Can’t keep blaming Manny. It’s year 4 and Mario (by missing on an elite QB) is likely looking at an 8 win max season. Sure this can change and we can make major spring moves maybe that change the fortune for 2025 but right now this team has major weaknesses at QB, WR, C, DE, DT, LB, CB, S, K, and coaching across the entire defensive staff.

I’m not blaming Manny for 2024. But when people quote Mario’s cumulative record at Miami and talk about the 5-7 first year, yeah, I’ll blame Manny.

Prior to the portal, teams would have had to look internally for talent. We have much improved depth of talent now outside of the secondary. We just don’t know how good they are yet. So I’m not sure I agree with your premise that they’re an 8 win team max.

I think Lyle is the lead back next year.

Manny left behind the preseason number 14 team in the country. That roster that went 5-7 with a loss to mdtsu had current nfl guys ( Williams LT Ivey Stevenson), some of our best players (restrepo arroyo rivers George borregales) some of the best guys on acc champ smu (breshard smith Clark Campbell (Tennessee) JHH Roberts Harvey Keyshawn smith). That team didn’t need to go 5-7. If you want to say Mario needed to strip it down or whatever culture wise and that’s why we went 5-7 then sure but it wasn’t because that roster was incapable of making a bowl game

If it’s our only option and it doesn’t hurt acquisition of talent elsewhere, so be it. If this impacts NIL in other places I’m with you.
