Agents negotiate contracts. Im not giving the sleeze ball who pulled the TVD fiasco, and pulled the Colbie Young shakedown any benefit of the doubt.

Agents care sbout one thing, their own money. They probably have taken over the mantle of shady occupation subplanting lawyers.
I appreciate the shot at lawyers too, but agents’ jobs are literally to advise career direction and to negotiate more money for them. They use any leverage they have to get their clients paid and that’s what TVD did. It’s hardball business but it’s business.

I blame Mario for that not the agent doing his job like he is doing his job as well for X because Mario had TVD here in the locker room and still brought him back and paid him. I have negotiated deals for much of my working life so this **** does not offend me one bit but I guess if you don’t work in this type of thing regularly, it hits differently.

Yes but it’s tricky to recruit RBs for depth. They all want carries. @JayCane20 said it and I agree- the best option may be recruiting a KR who also can play RB.

Lofton is another option. I think he can be a 5+ YPC back in the ACC. But we would need to add a TE.
Antonio Martin Jr would be perfect to bring in as a RB3 option.

If we land Conception you and Mike Ryan has to wear his jersey on the next podcast lol

It’s too early to judge that NIL is the equalizer to a standout recruiting type of head coach???

Not really. NIL money trumps Mario’s biggest strength, especially in the portal. So then we need to be able to identify and develop talent, coaching guys up and doing more with less and that’s the opposite of Mario as a coach. He does less with more. He needs a top 3-5 roster to have a decent shot at the playoffs.

This less with more slogan sounds a lot like the brofense catch phrase we used a year ago. Regarding the portal, there is still a lot more Mario can do to improve his success rate, even if he's not as comfortable at it right now. NIL wasn't what caused him to lose out to OU with Mateer. So there are still other forces at work. I think he'll keep working the problem and get better at it over time.

Admittedly, I'm projecting right now. I could be wrong. And besides, we want him to get better for 2025, not some distant future, so I get the frustration.

Laughable. Cam is a grown man, and if he wants to compete, compete.

Again, you missed the point of my initial post. Its much more anti agent than an indictment on X. I think X wants to play like most competitors, but you have agents and fans like yourself that think if these players play in another game, they will lose a limb and never play football again. The very strong likelihood proven by years of data, says the players WONT get injured.

You couldnt be more wrong about me, I hope they have more success post Miami than you can imagine.
Not this again. You can have a 99% chance of not getting hurt and go win a meaningless bowl but potentially lose millions of dollars.

Or you can guarantee yourself those millions of dollars and not play.

The choice is easy. You should watch Jake Butt’s video where he runs through everything he lost out on.

Even as they prepare for Iowa State, the Canes are working on numerous fronts in the Portal. Here is the latest:

- My read from the building is that the Canes like their options at QB. It's true that the coaches and players like Emory Williams. Anybody with connections to the team will confirm that. But they were also extremely aggressive in pursuing Washington State transfer QB John Mateer, as reported by various national and Oklahoma sources. So watch the actions. The Canes are actively looking to improve the talent in that room and will continue to do so throughout the Portal period (which extends by five days for playoff teams eliminated from the tournament). Fernando Mendoza is a name that we like (and that I personally feel would be an improvement to the current room) but he is by no means the only target. I get the impression they feel better about their options now than they did last year, when so much rode on Cam Ward.

- Secondary recruiting could pick up quickly. Wisconsin CB Xavier Lucas just entered the Portal and the Canes are the heavy favorite. He is a Broward native and former teammate of OJ Frederique under CIS legend @Coach Macho. That reunion would give Miami perhaps the most talented pair of young corners in the conference. Lucas has three years of eligibility.

- Miami is also pursuing Michigan State CB corner (and Venice, FL native) Charles Brantley, who is one of the most experienced and proven corners in the Portal. There is strong mutual interest there. Arizona CB Emmanuel Karnley is another young, long, fast corner with three years of eligibility who Miami likes a lot. Ole Miss and Michigan are battling there.

- At safety, Miami is thrilled with the addition of Zechariah Poyser from Jacksonville State. He may have been the best safety in the Portal and has three years of eligibility. If we add another name as a boundary safety, watch for Adrian Wilson (Washington State).

- WR Kevin Concepcion is on campus now and having a good visit. He is a high-priority target.

- I expect Miami to add a starting C and will monitor names jumping in the Portal (that is an active market).

- WR CJ Daniels is considered a high-character, proven target with rave reviews from LSU staffers and others who have coached him. His contested-catch ability projects to be an improvement over anybody in our room last year.

- The DT name to know right now is David Blay, a 6'4, 300+pound late bloomer from Pennsylvania. He is visiting through the weekend. Miami would like to add a premium, productive target instead of a volume of low-ceiling players, as the room has improved through recruiting.

@DMoney, is Daniels heel or foot going to be an issue like it was at lsu or should he be healed by the spring? He seems like an upgrade over Horton if healthy.

I like the corners we are potentially getting and pursuing but until we get changeover in the D staff, it doesn't mean a whole lot yet.

He just had won of the worst defenses in the country and still had a decent shot at the playoffs.

And yeah, Cam Ward, blah blah blah. We are, at minimum, a Top 4 team in the ACC next year with Emory and the current roster based on talent. So improve the defense and we will have a good shot next year.

If we **** the bed and play like clowns and commit a billion penalties, then let’s talk about whether Mario is worth it.

We are one of the few private schools trying to play with the big boys on NIL right now. We are going to lose some recruiting battles.

Has Mikey ever played a team sport? Is Mikey in his 20's?

Jake Butte got drafted, made millions, and would've made more but ripped up his knee in the NFL, and also said he would still have played in the bowl game if he had to choice to. So that is your BEST example of reason not to play in the game.

The rare ability to give Cam Ward all of the credit without giving Mario any of the credit is impressive.

The argument that we only won 10 games because of Cam Ward is lazy. We had a TON of talent around him. You guys only think in black and white.
define TON bc I was at every home and a road game and saw cam cover up a lot of defensive holes on the roster and bring us back from multiple double digit deficits home and away. ive given Mario credit for this year in that he had a good year until the cuse game where brain farted again. the issue is that blah blah blah who was a heisman finalist and the QB in america is gone.
