This is a tough time for Miami on the field but recruiting never stops. Some updates on various key targets:

- Things continue to move in a very positive direction with Louisville commit DE Cole McConathy (Mobile, AL). Like Markel Bell, who committed last week, McConathy was first identified in the Bank as a major Miami target. I like our momentum there.

- CB Xavier Lucas (American Heritage) is another name first reported in the Bank that is beginning to pick up steam. There are several schools (like FSU) trying to flip him from Wisconsin, but Miami is in the best position.

- Miami continues to build momentum with Ohio State commit RB Jordan Lyle (St. Thomas). I don't know if the recruitment is as advanced with Lyle as the other two, but Miami is making very good progress.

- With Jimbo Fisher fired at Texas A&M, OL Isendre "Papa" Ahfua is firmly back in the picture. Expect the Canes to make a run there.

- Miami is very happy with the senior progress of QB Judd Anderson (Macon, GA). A source had a simple answer when asked about his season: "Stud." With that said, I expect Miami to aggressively pursue a high-level transfer QB to pair with Anderson.

- Anything can happen in recruiting, but there is not a lot of concern about TE Elija Lofton (Las Vegas) right now. He is considered internally to be one of the most versatile players in the nation.

- Status quo with CB Zavier Mincey (Daytona Beach). Miami likes their position but it's a long time until the Army AA game, when he announces.

- The staff was very encouraged by what they saw from CB Damari Brown and CB Jadais Richard in the FSU game. While they will still pursue impact players at CB, there seems to be less desperation at that position in terms of the Portal. Daryl Porter, Brown and Richard all project as starter-caliber and they like Robert Stafford. However, expect an extremely aggressive pursuit of the safety position.

- Alex Donno mentioned this on the podcast, and I've been able to confirm: Booker Pickett will be playing linebacker at Miami. This does not mean he won't rush the passer, as LBs Francisco Mauigoia, Wesley Bissainthe and KJ Cloyd have combined for 10.5 sacks between them. But they would rather him focus on being a versatile player than bulking up to play EDGE.

- I can see Miami looking to get bigger at DE in the Portal, even with big DEs like Reuben Bain and Akeem Mesidor coming back.

Probably the minority but I’d prefer JHH come back next year over LT. He doesn’t have the natural ability but he’s got a good motor and makes plays. Especially if it comes down to $.

The ranking matters less than figuring out who’s gonna play QB, CB, and Safety. I love the concept of building teams inside out. The reality is it’s just not enough now. Bring JHH back, pay out for 2 DTs instead of 3, and add a CB to the wish list, please.

Ceiling is top 6 probably whales that we could add if we go undefeated: Lyle, Mincey, Ahfua, Stewart and Adarius. Just Lyle Mincey and Ahfua get us to 280. Stewart 288 and adarius 293. Dont think it happens i think we maybe get one or 2 more quality pieces probably end around 275 range

Wow, DeLoach is a senior. I didn't realize that. He's a dawg, high effort player with great closing speed and burst.

Yeah, I definitely expect a regression to the mean. If A&M really does coke after Mike he might dip on FSU foreal. They're losing a TON.

Total agreement. Think we need more…a lot more, but there’s a follow-up question here.

Fairly reasonable additions for a ceiling-level finish, and even though there’s zero shot we finish top 6 overall, I’ll bite (we’re not surpassing UGA, Bama, FSU, Oregon, Ohio St or Texas at a minimum).

Now what’s the floor? Say we lose out - how many decommitments? (don’t need to name kids, just a ballpark number). How many additions, if any?

Also, don’t make D$ spell it out for y’all… he said the other day he views Emory as a “backup game manager” then today solidified Judd will be only HS QB in class….. It’s been written. QB is picked, just a matter of time until we see the guy.

Pratt still makes most sense imo

You make some good points. They had back to back 10 win seasons. But player development is still a question for me.

I can only think of Travis, Wilson and DeLoach as players who have had good development.

Probably 2 good players get poached from our class but well add 3 mid level players somehow and end up right where we're at.

Ellis Robinson has been my #1 want the entire year for that reason

It’s a numbers game (players leaving early, parents picking up kids & kids graduating) I’d assume we have 32-35 spots available this offseason.

Currently at 25 commitments, let’s say 20 stick (3 dropped, 2 decommits). That leaves us with 12-15 spots. IF the blue chip ratio is elite (80% of those spots) and we don’t lose one of our top 5 commitments. I think the ceiling is 7/8. The floor though? 15/16

Beats me. Don’t even know if it’s true. But, if he balls out in the CFP, supposedly he’s looking to leave. He’s a solid player. Some advanced scout may get a late round steal and a promotion. I just rather he not play for FSU.

They will evaluate everyone in the Portal, but I get the sense the big money goes to QB, DT x 3 and safety.

Miami needs to be careful getting content with a average DB room. Unless we get Elias Robinson I would love to see us go out and get CB to compete for the starting job across from DPJ.

Accurate imo. Both are attainable, mostly based on what happens on the field the next two weeks.

If we play on offense like we have five of the last six weeks, you’re looking at the latter.

Louisville presents an opportunity to stop the bleeding, or send this season/class into cardiac arrest. Let’s hope we get the good TVD and the run defense holds up.

I thought he was ineligible this year? He'll be able to play in the CFP?
