S Hylton “Drake” Stubbs commits to Miami

The fireworks started early for the Canes with the commitment of S Hylton “Drake” Stubbs.

The 6’1, 190-pound Jacksonville (Mandarin) product ranks as the 56th overall player in the nation and 9th overall player in Florida. As a junior, he totaled 97 tackles (8.5 TFL), 6 INTs, 6 PBU, 3 FR, 2.5 sacks and 2 FF. He also scored 4 two-point conversions as a WIldcat QB for the state runner-ups.

Stubbs committed to USC in March but decommitted following his official visit to Coral Gables. He chose the Canes over Florida. Stubbs played his 7on7 ball for Coach @Stevo365 and Jose Duasso on RAW Miami with Canes commits Amari Wallace and Ezekiel Marcelin.

He is the 16th commitment in the 2025 Class, joining QB Luke Nickel, RB Girard Pringle, TE Brock Schott, TE Luka Gilbert, OT Jaden Wilkerson, OT Demetrius Campbell, OG TK Muex, OG Max Buchanan, DE Herbert Scroggins, LB Gavin Nix, LB Elijah Melendez, LB Ezekiel Marcelin, DB Amari Wallace, DB Tim Merritt and CB Chris Ewald.

... I'm not saying it, but there is zero doubt people on here were talking about Stubbs not being good enough over a month or two before any of the UF rumors even started over the last week or so. So if those same people are saying he is overrated from when he was committed to us and there was basically zero fear of us losing him, and are saying the same thing now.... then that isn't cope.

I agree with your point about us wanting him and ultimately if you don't land the guys you want it's getting beat. However if you aren't in the same orbit of the NIL bid that you lost to, there really is not much to do... it just is what it is.

I still don't think he was going to be an impact player his first year. So it basically is meaningless for next season. But down the line it certainly can make an impact given our Safety Depth chart looks *** going forward.
