Realistic goals in recruiting and on the field

There has been a lot of talk about moving the goalposts in terms of expectations. So I figured we could write down some goals in this thread and see how they pan out. Here are mine:

1) Land 3-4 Top 100 Composite players by the start of the season

We have two Top 100 Composite players committed- DE Marquise Lightfoot (62) and RB Kevin Riley (70). This is a goal, not a prediction, but I think we have a chance to add three or four more by the time the season starts. This will help build a base of impact players so we are not overly reliant on flipping. For reference, below is a list of Top 100 players by class in the Composite Era. NFL players are bolded.

2) Put together a season that breeds confidence from fans and outside observers

This one is self-explanatory. I don't have a number- you know it when you see it. The 2016 season is a good example. There were ups and downs, but by the end of the year most people inside and outside the program felt we were headed in the right direction.

3) Finish with a Top 10 Class

If we accomplish Goals 1 and 2, this will put us in a position to flip some targets and land in the Top 10. Miami hasn't landed consecutive Top 10 classes since 2005- nineteen years ago. This is why we brought in Mario. Add in some good transfers and a high-quality transition class in '22, and this should have Miami's roster in position to take another step.

im not upset in anyway, the loss to Middle Tenn State and getting blown out by FSU and Duke needs to be pushed in his face everyday so it never happens again
those losses were completely unacceptable

I absolutely would not be mad if it came from someone who has the credentials to say these things.

Absolutely IF we were talking about Brent as a 3rd yr HC. As a 1st yr HC & we’re doing an apples to apples comparison between the two seasons.

I just feel we’re trying to throw stones from a glass house, & if imma be honest, it’s annoying af.

I know five-stars are 63% and four-stars are 22%. From the list above, we are at 54% with Top 100 players and lacking in impact players.

Don't know the NFL rate but I did an informal study and found 55-60% play like impactful players at the college level. That's from 2015-2023.

Subjective, I know but I stand by it.

So I think we need to stop trying to compare what happened to us last yr vs. UF, OU, or any other team. i agree they both need to improve
but currently one is getting alot of the recruits we are going for
i dont care what needs to be done just get it done
and what happened vs Texas doesnt mean anything to me bc I dont care that another team beat OU
its like ole miss fans getting hyped cuz an SEC team beat another team
I find no joy in another team doing the work I want my team to do
i guess im just very disapointed so far this cycle esp after all the hype we were fed

Imo a good season can get us in the top ten. That’s the ceiling. Just showing life on offense can steal a high level guy or two. The season won’t be the end all but it can help add a few more highly rated guys preferably from SFLA . showing them we’re trending in the right direction. Then build steam into 25.

he doesnt have room to talk youre right but its the pitch hes selling to kick our asses on the trail. if we werent losing all these kids to them (highly ranked ones), i wouldnt care, but we are and that sounds like the pitch

I don’t understand the outrage in what he said. We were god awful last season. Arguably the worst season in the last 40 years of this program. Venables has to deal with his team regressing and underperforming. Don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.

But he’s not wrong about us looking dead in the water. It also tells me if Mario can win some **** games and not look archaic doing it, it’ll alleviate most of the recruiting issues going on right now.

He could very well just be a better recruiter.... but by no means he's winning kids over by the fact that we sucked, but they sucked less.

he lost his QB and other kids to riley leaving. mario retained the best freshman QB along w Caleb and turned into ****. either way, both coaches sucked ***.

You can believe that high school recruits considering UM and Oklahoma are either going to think:
1) Oklahoma was just as bad as UM and Venables shouldn't be running his mouth
or
2) Venables doesn't give a **** about playing nice and he's got balls to directly call out another coach like that

I don't think recruits are going to look at the box scores to compare UM and Oklahoma. All they know right now is that there is a perception that UM is getting it's a$$ kicked on the recruiting trail (and especially getting owned by in state rivals) and coaches from other programs have so little respect for Cristobal that they are now publicly embarrassing him. Could Cristobal fire back and tell Venables to mind his own business and that the Sooners were equally awful? Sure, but then it looks like Cristobal is just whining that Venables said something mean. Venables drew first blood and that's what recruits will remember. Obviously the best response is to say nothing and just steal a bunch of kids that Oklahoma is recruiting, but the chances of that happening are slim to none.

For once I would like to see our fanbase come together man. Like these statements are coming from a program we're battling with for a few kids...... wooooo! not rivals or a team we play every year. I don't care how true his statements are, y'all gotta have a lil more pride and not allow 6-7 to talk so mighty over 5-7.

i think its worse that a dude with 10 years of HC exp coached like thast last year. it was fireable.
