So give a first time head coach anti-support from the jump and lower expectations for an established head coach with more resources …

Got it…
A first time HC that was literally our DC already for 3 years lol. Its clear you love to ignore any and all context regarding both situations huh.

And where are you getting the lower expectations from? Thin air?

YEP.

And …. Let me say something on TVD, and QB’s in general.

We have seen great Qb play from TVD on multiple occasions. He’s made NFL throws, come up with big plays, and shown moxie where he needed to. Every game? No? Every throw? Please.

BUT …. Great Qb play in games is kind of like an IQ test: you can’t fake it. If you score as a genius on an IQ test, and the next day you score as a moron. It doesn’t mean you’re a moron. Because morons never could score as a genius, no matter how lucky they get. The psychiatrists all will tell you, it’s all about the high score, stupid!

For a QB, it’s sort of the same. when you see things like Tvd throwing for a zillion TD’s against TAM, or hitting that 4 route to Jacoby where he stands in and gets roadgraded, but still hits the blade of grass he was aiming for, you can’t say he sucks. Bad qb’s don’t make those kinds of plays, ever. Much less on multiple occasions.

What it means is that you have a talented QB that isn’t consistently playing to a level he should. caleb williams single handily pick sixed his team to an L last night. Drake Maye looked like kirby freeman in the first half last night against an average secondary.

Neither of those guys suck. Neither does TVD.

Asking wether Tvd is a good or bad Qb, or if he has “it” at this point in his career, (whatever that means to message board fans), is asking the wrong question. The question we should be asking, if we think about this like a logical and knowledgeable coach would, is WHY does a guy with NFL arm skills and size, who works hard, holds himself to high standard, and often shows great play, have the sort of lapses and in game performance issues that he does?

You get to that answer, then you’re on to something meaningful.
Very well thought out and stated piece right here. To much truth and logic for this board.

Oh… “context” is the new CIS MariBro buzzword — love it

Lowered expectations: Any competent coach should win the ACC at Miami when Manny went 7-5… but trust the process, 5 year rebuild, bad 20 years, when Mario goes 5-7…

Mario hasn’t won an ACC game at home…

I’m probably viewed by many as a TVD apologist, I don’t think so, but I get why people would say that because I don’t bash him in the same vein as I would some others, say a Malik Rosier for instance.

Because even last night, TVD played well enough to win, but the issue is that the mistakes he makes become amplified because his margin of error is very slim in order for our team to win. We’re not well Coached enough, or talented enough to where we can win in spite of QB play. We win when TVD is perfect, when he’s not on, we lose. Therefore, the brunt of everything else ends up falling on his shoulders even when everything isn’t necessarily always his fault.

His biggest issue right now is DC’s have been dropping LB’s/Safety’s in coverage shells on him & reading his eyes, that’s what’s causing his picks on underneath routes. He’s not seeing the Rover & expecting for them to either drift or play outside leverage, so his windows aren’t really there on the intermediate seam routes, but he’s throwing it anyway.

The majority of TVD’s success is coming from outside one on one matchups where our guys are getting open against Zones with their route running, but when they drop back in Quarters & dare TVD to throw it in traffic, he just won’t take what the Defense gives him & check the ball down. He’s ignoring the Hot route looking to make a big play & it’s costing him in the long run.

But I always caution people to be careful with their hasty bench TVD takes, because if people think QB play is bad now it can be much worse. I know you’re an Emory guy, but I don’t think he’s ready & might not be for another year or 2. Small sample size obviously, but the game will have to slow down for him before he can be expected to operate this Offense at the same level & not have a significant drop off in play. The playbook would basically be cut in half if he had to start.

I had low expectations after 20 years. Didn't lower them with Mario. My expectations actually went up as I expected Mario to recruit better but the expectations weren't for years 1 & 2 but years 3 & 4.

As much as you dogged our CBs, DP2 has played very well. Do you think DP could have contained Tez more? Maybe have Brown on the taller guys.

Hampton was 100% on the front 7 which compounded our safety problems because our two guys had to look in the backfield the 2nd half vs playing the deep ball.
I dogged JD & Couch because they are clearly the worst in coverage.

I’ve said & been saying since last year that DP Jr was our best pure cover Corner on the team.

NAILED IT.

I think the toughest part for me last night was the 3rd and 18 and 3rd and 20 easy touchdowns

It’s the same **** we saw with Manny and it was just like having deja vu

Things happen in college football and it’s a wild game, it’s why we love it. But ffs it’s the same thing year after year
absolutely. money downs or just situational football in general, penalties and turnovers are pretty much the 3 pillars of winning and losing and this program has been on the wrong side of the equation for a long time. No matter who the coach is.

I fully expect life after TVD to be **** but I am over the roller coaster that is him. It would not surprise me at all to see him do well in the NFL. I just think he’s reached his ceiling here and I dont think the players rally to play with him

Yeah and I know you get this but **** happens. Sometimes you lose the rep especially to a kid like Drake Maye and a legit receiver

But when it keeps happening…

A TVD slurper vs MariBro slurpers…

@RVACane - Can we get this on the undercard of the insider war **** in the cell…

NO Context is Manny was apart of this program for 3 years as DC. You'd expect him to have the Defense built. Defense and his position group in particular was the weakest on the team while he was HC. We are literally STILL trying to rebuild the LB unit that Diaz destroyed. Think about that. That was HIS ******* position group. Under Mario the thing we are probably most confident in is that OLine WILL be stacked and perform at a pretty high level. That is the difference. Mario had actually succeeded at Oregon, while Diaz did nothing to deserve the University of MIami head coaching job. There is a whole world of difference between the two. Pretending there isn't just so you can ***** and moan about Mario is absurd.

You’re leaving out NC had the most penalty yards in school history and Miami had 5 sacks. Yet we lost by 10
could have been worse tbh. we were down 3 scores in the fourth before we had 2 late scores (one of which we could have mounted a comeback had we had a coach who understood clock management)

Right. Manny did nothing and was expected to win the conference. Mario, you point to Oregon success, yet won’t hold him accountable for being worse than Manny at Miami. The difference is Mario should be better, but both should be held accountable.

What are you missing?

Mario did succeed at Oregon. he has been a failure in 18 games at miami (on the field, off the field, you name it).

OL doesn't get any run blocking. they are good in pass pro tho. OL will be good overall w Mario. it's his specialty. recruiting has been fine but not up to what Mario would expect if you ask me. we have obvious holes in both his full classes (WR last year, CBs, DT both years)

Did you stop drinking last night? Cause Who the **** is saying Mario is not expected to win the conference while Diaz was? You're literally arguing something you are making up. Who the **** is saying Mario can't be held accountable? I think you need to go back and reread what I wrote, cause you clearly didn't comprehend it or interpret it correctly.

OLine doesn't get much run blocking on the inside zones we constantly run. But I wouldn't say they don't get any run blocking. Theres a difference. Our OLine gets our RBs quite a lot of yards before contact as a whole. Our RBs don't really do anything more than the Oline provides is one of the problems...
