Miami targeting Houston's Zac Etheridge for DB coach

Per CBS Sports, Miami is targeting Houston's Zac Etheridge for its DB coach position.

In 2024, Houston ranked 22nd nationally in passing yards allowed against FBS opponents. Houston's 2,266 passing yards allowed were its fewest in a full season in 30 years. Just yesterday, Etheridge had been promoted to defensive pass game coordinator for the Cougars.

Etheridge was previously a finalist for the Louisiana-Monroe head coaching job. At Auburn, he coached three players this year who earned Senior Bowl invites and as well as 2022 second-round pick Roger McCreary.

Etheridge is a Troy, Alabama native who was a team captain on Auburn’s 2010 national championship team. He spent three seasons (2021-23) as the Tigers' Secondary Coach. In February 2022, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach. He also spent time at Louisiana (CB coach) and Western Carolina (CB/OLB coach).

The guy I got told I haven’t seen his name mentioned but I’d be lying if I said I was looking closely. Someone I know who has no affiliation to Miami said it would be a great hire if it does happen he is a great football mind and will fit in this staff perfectly

All this coaching drama is ridiculous. Within the fraternal order of coaches they know who can coach and recruit and who can’t. Bring in those 4 and 5 star recruits and all coaches will look good if not you end up looking like all the coaches who get axed. It’s funny how most land on their feet elsewhere. Coaches are only as good as their players. Without Can Ward Dawson would probably be looking elsewhere.

You think it's a legit possibility? I don't know a ton about him besides a guy who's maybe rebounding with his career. Rang a bell as I think he got demoted right before the infamous 23 G Tech game, right? Definitely has the DC experience at both G Tech and Temple.
