Per CBS Sports, Miami is targeting Houston's Zac Etheridge for its DB coach position.

In 2024, Houston ranked 22nd nationally in passing yards allowed against FBS opponents. Houston's 2,266 passing yards allowed were its fewest in a full season in 30 years. Just yesterday, Etheridge had been promoted to defensive pass game coordinator for the Cougars.

Etheridge was previously a finalist for the Louisiana-Monroe head coaching job. At Auburn, he coached three players this year who earned Senior Bowl invites and as well as 2022 second-round pick Roger McCreary.

Etheridge is a Troy, Alabama native who was a team captain on Auburn’s 2010 national championship team. He spent three seasons (2021-23) as the Tigers' Secondary Coach. In February 2022, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach. He also spent time at Louisiana (CB coach) and Western Carolina (CB/OLB coach).

Interesting.

Need to know the line of thinking on this one. Not saying he's a bad hire, just ...

Interesting. Maybe the Georgia/Alabama connections?

Etheridge is probably a top 5 DB coach in college football and a very good recruiter on top of the coaching ability.

No sugar coat, no bias. That’s legit.

Would be a top notch hire.
Freeze kept him around, but him leaving for a lesser program was always kinda weird/suspicious, especially when he was getting potential lower level HC looks.

He'll field a good, disciplined unit. They won't put up eye popping INT numbers, but they'll get them when they're there.

can we finally establish that line towards Texas now?
Alabama native that played and coached at Auburn.

Not sure how much this helps there. I’m sure he’s made some relationships in his time at Houston (he was there this year and also 2 years back in 2018 or 2019) so maybe.

His tenure at Auburn ended strangely. Wondering what ever came of that. Some kind of investigation

It's weird since it seems he was given an upgraded title over the weekend. It probably was in response to schools being interested.
