Miami is firing DC Lance Guidry

After a season in which Miami's defense likely cost the Hurricanes a spot in the College Football Playoff, the Hurricanes will be making a change at defensive coordinator.

Lance Guidry is expected to be fired, sources tell CanesInSight. Against FBS opponents, Miami finished 70th in scoring defense (26.7 PPG), 50th in 3rd Down Defense (37.75%) and 82nd in takeaways (1.3),

Mario Cristobal issues the following statement on the decision:

“I want to first thank Coach Guidry for his contributions to the University of Miami.

“In a continuous effort to always improve all aspects of our program, I have decided to make a change on defense. We will move forward and make decisions that provide our players, staff and program the best opportunity to win and develop at the highest level.”

The defense was one of the worst in the ACC during conference play, struggling with communication and pre-snap movement, among other areas.

Miami will now look for its third defensive coordinator of the Cristobal Era, following Guidry and Kevin Steele.

Fire Guidry after the Syracuse game, list him as interim coach, and let him call the bowl game? Wouldn't have cost a penny, same logic as giving Emory 1/2 the game, you kick the tires on what he could game plan and do, etc.

I don't think JT is serious consideration, because if it was remotely a chance, then they would have done above.

He should be shown the door too.

I’d rather play bend but don’t break defense, with the offense we had we would’ve been ok playing this way on defense this past season. Just prevent the big play and keep things in front. But no, go aggressive and give big play, after big play. For every big play our offense made, our defense gave it back.

Technically it isn't over until 5 days after the national championship. Any kids at the championship would have to enroll 1-2 days after the game to get in for Spring which is a very tight window. The second window is April 16-25.

You know the HC isn't going anywhere in the next few years and you are working with top 10-15 type athletes in a talent rich location, and a big market, that will either revitalize your resume or help elevate it. Not to mention quality of life in South Florida. Who wouldn't want to take that job?

No coordinator usually gets the power to hire whoever they want. The hc may allow you to bring a guy or 2 and some off field guys but I haven’t seen one coordinator get that type of power

I think everyone playing in bowls right now has 5 days to enter after the last game. After that then mid-April.

Defense gave it back but so did special teams. Other than offense we were a lousy team.
