Miami is firing DC Lance Guidry

After a season in which Miami's defense likely cost the Hurricanes a spot in the College Football Playoff, the Hurricanes will be making a change at defensive coordinator.

Lance Guidry is expected to be fired, sources tell CanesInSight. Against FBS opponents, Miami finished 70th in scoring defense (26.7 PPG), 50th in 3rd Down Defense (37.75%) and 82nd in takeaways (1.3),

Mario Cristobal issues the following statement on the decision:

“I want to first thank Coach Guidry for his contributions to the University of Miami.

“In a continuous effort to always improve all aspects of our program, I have decided to make a change on defense. We will move forward and make decisions that provide our players, staff and program the best opportunity to win and develop at the highest level.”

The defense was one of the worst in the ACC during conference play, struggling with communication and pre-snap movement, among other areas.

Miami will now look for its third defensive coordinator of the Cristobal Era, following Guidry and Kevin Steele.

Fitzgerald is the former HC I hinted at awhile ago . He has some legal stuff that needs taken care of . He’s never called plays . It would be nice to get him off field until all that stuff is taken care of. Then find a spot.

The strategy has always appeared to be fire everyone except JT and D Nic, move Big Joe off field and hire a current or former HC as DC so Mario can focus on management and recruiting. he doesnt want to baby sit a defense.

What a fall.. just a year ago this guy was our hot DC and one year later he was g0d awful. When UNC went hurry up in that 3rd quarter in 2023 was the start of Guidry downfall. Jeff Brohm exposed his defense in 2023 and 2024 everybody in the ACC figured it out. Everytime the other team goes motion our guys were screaming each other of who has who. This happen since the USF game and never improved. Purge that whole defensive staff

it was reported that fran brown took several calls from other ACC coaches on how to beat our defense

it's a ***** move but that's the way this works when you're a miami and the top of the conference at the time - need someone that doesn't have so many glaring flaws and can adapt

Something else is not working within the program that goes beyond the defense. Can we get a change there too? The issue is, he is headed into year 4 and is going to be on his third DC. What is going on with his evaluation process with coaches (and players for that matter)? It's Bush league.

I’m not going to really celebrate until I see who Mario ,who from past history isn’t the greatest at hiring coordinator’s, hires.
I happy Guidry’s gone but until Mario can get a top DC to sign on the doted line and give that DC total autonomy to bring whoever he wants with him I’m not popping the champagne.
