I would say that the last 5 or 6 years for Hetherman have really skyrocketed him past Guidry's experiences.

Working with Cignetti at JMU. Working with Schiano at Rutgers. And the year at Minnesota. Each of these three experiences probably beats anything on Guidry's pre-Miami resume.
Excellent point
I like who has worked under as well
👍

Good stuff, thanks.

As for his recruiting, don’t give a ****. We need coaches. All this recruiting hasn’t gotten us ****. Coach up what we have, which is the most talented group in the conference going on for the 3rd year in a row. Lock him in the lab and let him work, never has to even talk to a kid for all I care. (I know that won’t happen)
Develop, develop, develop.

FWIW, I'm a Miami grad but otherwise a lifelong Minnesotan and have season tickets to the Gophers, so I'm as in tune with them as I am the Canes. My thoughts on Heatherman:

He generally runs an attacking, aggressive defense, but not a complicated one. He's stated he doesn't want his players thinking too much and to be more instinctual (we know how much of a concern that has been under multiple different DC's over the past 10-15 years). Players were rarely out of position - most of the time teams had to out-execute the Gophers if they wanted to have success on offense. The times the defense struggled and got out of position, they occurred mostly in games where they got little help from the offense and the defense wore down as the game went on (Iowa game comes to mind here).

I will say his rep was of him being one of the least effective recruiters on the staff, but I'd rather have a tactician than a recruiter at DC, especially at Miami.

Also, I see all the talk already about trying to bring Koi Perich along. That isn't happening. NIL has been a tertiary concern for him. Being close to home matters (seems like half the town of Esko comes down for the games, all wearing Perich jerseys), but what has mattered the most for him for all accounts is wanting to get to the NFL. Between Antoine Winfield and Tyler Nubin (and even turning a walkon in Jordan Howden into an NFL player), safety is the one position that Minnesota can really talk up more than any other and Koi bought into that heavily.
If Mario lands Perich that would be his most impressive win to date. That kid is in legend status just for staying in state and turning down OSU.

I agree too, he doesn’t lose to equal talent. Wisconsin couldn’t do a **** thing against his defense. Not saying Wisconsin is some juggernaut offensively, but he just shut them down. Again he might not create some T15 defense for Miami. But he **** sure won’t let GT run the same **** stretch play for success over and over again.

won’t pretend to know much about this guy, but everything i’m seeing is rock solid. hoping to see a much more fundamentally sound defense next year.
