I’d bet my life Mario called Schiano and vetted this dude. Worked for him in 2022 and 2023 coaching linebackers.

I’ll admit I don’t know much about him, he’s only been an FBS DC for a year but it was at the P4 level and the defense was excellent.

5th in the country in yards per play allowed
9th in scoring defense
Defended the pass very well, top 20 in passer rating allowed and yards per pass allowed.
Not very good on 3rd down, 68th in the country.

Didn’t play Oregon or taint in the big 10 but did play Penn state and only gave up 350 yards, which was 70 less than their average.
correction

5th in yard yards per game
9th in yards per play (which is the more better stat)(yes, i purposefully write incorrectly so that I can fit in with the undereducated here)

I’m seeing it the same way

If we can have a fundamentally and technically sound defense, with top 15 athletes, we would be in the CFP

If we can continue producing on offense, Hetherman should have the Defense as a nice compliment
Imagine our defense this year just sound fundamentally and not confused

Things that stand out kinda worrying me is the sacks/TFL.

Also, what’s the difference in schedule year over year? Did they play more running-based teams in 23 than 24?
they had michigan and ohio state in '23, didn't play either in '24

they did play a much better offense in penn state in 2024 and Iowa in 2024, along with USC

so it's relatively equal I'd say in terms of offenses played over the course of the year, slight advantage to 2023 but clear improvement

So he signed an extension a few weeks ago correct?

Not that it matters but Wisconsin is close to Minnesota and they might not let Hetherman leave
Dang yo, this one got me.
