Per sources, Miami DL coach/associate head coach Joe Salave'a will be returning to Arizona-- his alma mater-- as the school’s new defensive line coach.
Jt calls line assignments. That's not done by the coordinator from play to play. That's just logic brother. You only get a certain amount of seconds that go into each snap and substitutions. You think the DC could be hands on with that too. It's obviously discussed when game planning where we're more likely to run that in. But it's a situational call in game.
I think for the expectations most had they didn’t play to that. But they were the least of our problems imo. We literally got out schemed majority of the games, a simple motion killed us, there was coverage busts all year. We were focusing on alignment and assignment at the end of the season lolI mean I can't say what anybody else said. You can feel free to read what I said before the spring games the end of last season what I was saying about how things were going to look this year you guys feel free to put the blame wherever you want maybe you're a dolphins fan I don't know. But the d line has a lot of blame to go into that and if you think they didn't regress you're allowed to have your own opinions brother but we didn't even play any top o line units and we still weren't getting home half the time now am I saying a lot of that didn't have to do with injuries no not at all what I'm saying tons of it had to do with injuries. But the way we were calling the game not just as a defensive coordinator but as a unit didn't help at all.
Certainly seems like a guy you would want to work for. This is Mario saying, "It doesnt matter if we are friends, it was not good enough"
Exactly what I meant. It has nothing to do with race or racism. It’s about culture. Mario thought that Joe was a good coach or else he wouldn’t have brought him over from Oregon. Mario also realized that culturally he needed a Polynesian staff member to draw Poly kids to a school that hadn’t recruited Poly kids well in the past.I don't know if he meant them in a racial manner or not. But in reality Samoans are very family-oriented they go around individuals that in most instances they have familial connections towards feel free to look at all the places where the Samoans go throughout college football you'll find Samoans on staff I wouldn't take that as any racial comment I would take that as simple fact losing Joe hurts in that manner
I guessed rightWe can add one to the support staff if we already haven't
One of those coaches had a recent issue and hasn't been recruiting all that much...but wouldn't expect them back either.3 year deal was up and never renewed as of January 1.
The guys still under contract are still out recruiting but may still leave.
Good spot for him. Glad he landed on his feet but I and many others called it a bad fit from the jump. Never was a good recruiter.
Glad he had a hand in landing Francis though.
Of course they're recruited by MORE than Samoan coaches. BUT it's Samoan coaches who have opened that door. Mario is well respected by Samoans as well so that's why I'm curious if this changes things for us or not. All I can say and I know this because of not only Francis and his family explaining but a former Samoan teammate in the league is that Joe is looked at as someone really special if not iconic on the island. Not only for his accomplishments but more specifically coaching and the finances and opportunities he's brought to them. Everytime I'd read about him on here it's just really obvious people don't understand who that man is to that culture.I would agree with your comment, but those kid's aren't just being recruited by Samoan coaches. It would be nice if our staff continues those relationships given we've had several Samoan players.
Well hopefully that guy we just brought in who was the GM at Hawaii and before that their dl coach can keep up the connection for us...Of course they're recruited by MORE than Samoan coaches. Yeah and that was with Nancy(former owner of IMG)& Joe. I only know that part because they both told me that themselves. I'm only talking about the process of coming to Miami & why.Actually it was Keiki who brought Mauigoa Brothers to IMG Academy from American Samoa to Miami. He helped their oldest brother Fredrick get a scholarship to Washington State Cougars.

So my bigger point was like I said throughout the off-season, if the line can't create constant pressure that DB group(safety in particular) would get exposed. The original hope was zaquan would be phased into things more and the expectation was by mid season he'd take over so meesh could play nickel. As we saw for several reasons that never happened. For all good secondaries your success or failure is largely tied into your front 7. What kind of pressure you create or what you show a QB pre snap. We didn't scheme up some work of art. But the scheme wasn't our issue. The issue was lack of talent and overall lack of communication. If you can't pressure a QB to get him rattled continuously the QB will develop comfort in the pocket. Obviously if your comfortable you'll make better throws than if you're not. That's why I've always said the most important part of football is the team aspect. ***** always drilled us on that all the way down to literally quizzing us throughout camp or during workouts about teammates and our backgrounds. He always made **** sure we did everything together. Mario has taken on a lot of the same. He's big into team activities. Position coaches building the bond between they're rolls and the ones who directly correlate. But that takes time. It's why all this transfer stuff is hustling backwards in my eyes. My bad on the rantI think for the expectations most had they didn’t play to that. But they were the least of our problems imo. People expected the dline to cover up the problems but that just wasn’t realistic. Of course they weren't getting home when someone is open right away
And no im not a dolphins fan lmao, if the new dc has a respectable dline coach he’s bringing JT can go. I just don’t think he’s to blame for the dline play, and I don’t think the dline was better when joe was running it.
Also think JT evaluations at the edge have been pretty good imo, we’ll have to see if he can develop them tho.
I agree communication, lack of talent was a big issue but i also think scheme was a big issue. You dont have that bad of a defense if your scheme isn’t apart of the issueSo my bigger point was like I said throughout the off-season, if the line can't create constant pressure that DB group(safety in particular) would get exposed. That's what I was saying. Joe has open the door for Mario going all the back to Oregon. He should be able to recruit those players with the relationships he has built.Of course they're recruited by MORE than Samoan coaches. BUT it's Samoan coaches who have opened that door. I'm assuming the "poly" in this discussion refers to the state of the art synthetic reinforcement materials that serve as the foundation for his landing spot.
