I know I gave Coach L my fair share of criticism over the years, mostly on recruiting, but no question he's the best to ever do it for the Canes hoops program. Probably the best HC we've had in any sport since Jimmy Johnson. Hate that it went down this way. I know I'm in the minority here, but do think he earned the right to die on his sword and not get pushed out midseason. Coach L will be missed. If his replacement is half the coach L was, we'll be fine. GO CANES!!!

L said 8 guys transferred from the final 4 team. I fact checked that as that sounded high

By my count, only 4 guys transferred the next season. Two of the 4 were complete bench warmers while the other two were role players

Wong and miller went pro. Omier, pack, Wooga, Casey, Joseph, robinson and Watson all returned. All of them transferred this offseason, but not immediately after the F4 run

So no, we didn't lose the core of the team immediately after the F4 run. This shows me the collapse of this program went deeper than just the new NIL era.
He said 8 guys approached him about transferring. Some ended up staying reading between the lines.

I am not sure. It may have been funny. Maybe I don’t get it?

Or perhaps you are one of those people that laugh real loud at your own jokes and people are embarrassed for you. Leaning that

Best to Coach L and thanks for his years. The last two looked like the players just weren't buying in anymore.

NiL needs to be here. But it's due for much needed transparency

Have you actually watched our games the last 2 years? If so, what am I missing?

Sure, Coach L elevated the program to our highest level. Right now we are absolutely awful. I believe we are worse now than before we hired him.

He did a great job with transfers. Without them we don't sniff the final 8 and final 4. He now uses transfers as an excuse.
Its the season that may be as bad as we've experienced. Especially if you factor in the disasterous closing of last season.

But there's a difference between a season and a program. I think our program will take a hit because whoever our new coach is, he will probably have to select between 6-10 new guys because we will probably lose everyone. But the Final 4 and the Elite 8's still stand.

The program has elevated under Coach L

Robert Jones from Norfolk State has gotten buzz on several sites. He's an intriguing guy but probably not the household name that many are looking for

I get what he said about the NIL. And the "NCAA" is upset about how all of this is unfolding. But, if they would have policed the Alabama's and LSU's a bit more closely, this NIL stuff would have never happened.

NO ONE cares if a player deserves to get paid or not. The real issue that was being addressed is that schools who didn't have protection from the good ole boys in the NCAA executive office were afraid to pay for players under the table like the previously mentioned SEC schools.

I know his name shouldn't be mentioned here, but a certain RAT said in his prison cell that he tried to pay for players to come here. But he couldn't out bid the Alabama's and LSU's. The NCAA caused all of this.

4 left. And 3 of 4 who remained left the following year.
Which typically means they were partially checked out when they did return bc mentally they were gone and only came back bc they couldn't find another landing spot....which they did a year later. That destroys cohesiveness and focus within your program. For a guy at his age who only wants to be a coach and parental figure, not a CEO, psychologist, or bagman....it's tough. I don't blame any long-time coach who's up in age and financially set walking away from any college football or basketball program right now.

We all knew that L was over it, you could see it in his body language last year. Honestly, I think he felt as he needed to see this through, but he realized that he just couldn't get it going again. That said, he's given this basketball junkie a ride of a lifetime. I came to Miami as an 17 year old freshman, the 'Canes were in the first year of the ACC, basketball was an afterthought. I went to games as a freshman, people made fun of you for bringing up the program, people thought it was nerdy to care about the basketball program.

By the time I left Miami after completing my masters and JD, basketball was at least tolerated, if not cool in some circles. L did that. L made it to where I could see the 'Canes play in the Final Four in real life, not just on a video game. L made it to where beating Duke and UNC wasn't a once in a lifetime win.

I wish him well, and I hope that Rad does the right thing and makes a big boy hire. Don't cheap out. Do your **** job and get the best possible coach you can find and give that coach the resources needed to win.

I will say this though, it's amazing how Miami hatred has filtered down to the basketball program. You have writers and other jock sniffers lining up to cast aspersions on L for "He was the first to pay guys, now he's mad about the system". L wasn't the first, he isn't the last and multiple top end coaches have said exactly what he said and NONE of them were criticized for it.

Transparency can’t save a **** system. It doesn’t need to be here. Neither does the portal.

Or…revise NIL and dump the transfer portal. You get paid and stay unless you want to switch conferences and sit a year. Makes no difference what we say in here anyhow.

Hard pass on Norfolk State coach.

It’s ******* disgusting. Completely taking it out of context and trying to spin it like L is complaining about players getting paid.

I don't know what went wrong but almost all of those guys are doing next to nothing at their new homes. Omier was a stud when he left so hes different, but Poplar seems unimproved and the others are all middling elsewhere. Recruiting needs an overhaul too I guess or player development.

He was a great coach and did it without going all Louisville and Kentucky. Represented us well and I remember the locker room dancing.

Wasted research the point he was trying to make was made.

The rest of it is just ungrateful noise. To each their own.
Exactly. The take away is not what avenue or number players that left, it's after a FF appearance several were in fact leaving.

Didn’t a couple turn pro who could have also stayed? Not like they are setting NBA on fire and got drafted high.

All good and hope he enjoys himself
