Very curious to see if his press conference comments change the way we approach the basketball program. Perhaps hiring a GM like Saint Bonaventure did with woj. Also he change the program but I don't know if he changed the status what is the final four run really interested to see who we attract I think Jay Wright needs to be at the top of the list I would call him until he hung up on me at least three times.
I mentioned Wright to some guys via text. I know he is really enjoying TV appearances and helping Nova behind the scenes. But he left nova because they didn’t have any plan long term for bball NIL. Old money didn’t seem interested.

Miami is one of 2-3 schools he said he’d be interested. But that is several years ago now. If we commit to bball I’d have to believe he has the fire still.

If trying to guess what Rad would do- think of the laziest moves possible. Next HC will be someone with a connection to the program, preferably a former assistant coach or player. Who is the JD Arteaga for basketball?

Unless that “big name” is someone previously affiliated with UM, interviewing new candidates is just too much effort for Rad.

Credit to Eichorst for going outside the family and hiring Coach L.

Caputo isn't a really exciting option to me. Sure, GW is 11-2 this year, but they've been mediocre to below average in the two previous years. And it looks like they've beaten up on some weak teams so far this season. (Which is more than Coach L can say for this season unfortunately.) Caputo would strike me as another lazy hire, sticking with guys who have UM connections. I'll trust others who know more about it than me though, and maybe Caputo is a future star. Hopefully Rad does a legit and thorough search.

I can’t disagree right now unless the $$$ makes this a move up.
He probably likes where he is, but his competitive side probably also wants another shot at a bigger name school.

I'd love to have Shaka, but don't see it as realistic at all. I don't think Miami is a better job than Marquette. From a basketball perspective, we're not the "bigger name" (though in pretty much all other ways we are the bigger name). Our conference isn't the preeminent conference anymore, far surpassed by the SEC and Big 12. He's got just as much of a chance to attract recruits and win in the Big East (a la UConn and Nova in recent years). It looks like his salary and Coach L's were pretty similar too. Maybe we would have an NIL advantage over Marquette. I'd love to get a guy like him, but I'd be really surprised.

Greatest hoop coach in Hurricane history!

Unfortunately NIL and the portal changed the landscape for him-

He’s forgotten more basketball than most people will ever know-

I’m not a big Caputo admirer-He’s ok, he’d done a decent job at GW-This year he’s 11-1 going into conference play let’s see how it plays out-

He’s a grinder a basketball junkie which is a good thing.

Yes, he raised the program. Right now our program is worse than what is was when we hired him. The final 8 and final 4 seasons should have been a springboard for great success. Unfortunately, Coach L has been checked out since then and we are now absolutely awful. That too is on L.
I agree we have not been good last season and this season.
But I would argue UM basketball is much better off for the years under Coach L. I would not trade his success just because the ending has not been good. Endings rarely are good.

If they do a thorough coaching search and determine Caputo's the best candidate, fine, hire him.

But I'm 98% sure if that's who we go with, it'll be because we conducted a lazy search and chose the path of least resistance. And that's exactly how you end up with a bad coach.

Would be over the moon for the program if they were able to hire Jay Wright. Was he ever a name for Kentucky? If not, I can't believe he'd be willing to coach Miami just a year later. But I am such an outsider I might as well be on a different planet. Again, if you can get Jay Wright you absolutely do so and give up the farm. IMO Jay Wright would be to the Canes what Urban Meyer was to Ohio St.

So Coach L’s big sin is he’s old. Legacy be damned. Have the times changed? Most definitely. Do these kids expect to play now, regardless of experience and understanding of Coaches system. Yes. The Times are a Changing, and Coach accepted it and is leaving. But, basketball is basketball. X’s and O’s are the same. And, Coach L can give a master class in Basketball. The extraneous changes to BB, is for younger coaches, but not the coaching of BB. So, if you’re okay with Ageism. And thinking you’re the new, better, smarter model. Good for you. Your future awaits you. Make the best of it.

Yeah NIL is killing college sports along with the portal. Some like it I guess

Sorry if already posted…

"...The University needs a new leader of the program, one who is both adept at and embracing of the new world of intercollegiate athletics..."

Translation: The sleazy world of NIL and the entitled brats it creates is not for me.
