Assessing this recruiting class

Pretty sure I read that every 5* went P2+ND so we are basically ****ed going forward

Wasn’t a good finish. Portal is going to be critical in filling holes, it probably always was going to be portal heavy at db anyway.

Was our DL expected to be dominant? There was excitement about Bain and Baron but lots of concern about DT and Barrow was a nice surprise but Messidor was out of position and should have been at edge the while time. Moten came on late. Bain missed multiple games and so did Alston who was our #1 backup.
People saying they expected a dominant DL are full of ****. It was meltdown after meltdown about the DT position which last I checked was pretty important

Thankfully Barrow was better than expected (imo) he always had good PFF grades but was overshadowed by Harmon

We need at least 3 starting caliber defensive backs. This is who we've landed at DB from the portal in the last 3 years.

D'yoni Hill
Terry Roberts
Davante Brown
Jadias Richard
Mish Powell
Savion Riley
Jaden Davis
Daryl Porter.
Demetrius Freeney was a JUCO

Its not that we can't/won't land multiple starters. Its just not very realistic.

This is why I hate saying "we refused to overpay so we can spend in the portal."

Relying on the portal means we HAVE TO overpay.

I'm not even trying to bash Mario because I know he sees it as a risky strategy too.

As far as my eyes go, I like this class a lot. A couple highlights:
-I think Nickel is a 3 year starter. The Howell comparisons are spot on. His bucket throws are elite and he does move really well.
-Toney reminds so much of X it’s crazy. Elite football player. Dawg. Leader.
-Schott is a SUPERIOR athlete with great ball skills. A more dynamic Dalton Kincaid.
-Tuli will be a day 1 starter and Buchanan adds a ton of versatility
-Lowe’s bend is special at his size. Hard to teach. Heavy hands too.
-Amari is my favorite recruit. Instincts for days. If he’s healthy, he’s a day 1 starter at nickel. Can’t teach what he brings. Lemarcus Joyner would be my comp. Can play either safety but will eat inside.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna finish chugging this orange kool aid.

Yeah I’m perfectly fine with “overpaying” (don’t even like that term but whatever) for proven talent over high school when we need instant help but it’s gonna be harder in the portal because everyone will be willing to pay up when they know exactly what they need

Um, no. It's massively important, for sure. But we nailed it better than any program in the country this year, and we went 10-2 and won't play for the ACC, again. While it is the most important position in sports, we need defensive help in the back 7 just as badly.

I know this won't be popular, but if you said I could have a slight downgrade from Cam at QB combined with the same secondary for 2025, or I could have Emory Williams combined with the best DB portal class in the country, give me Emory and an influx of DBs.

A new DC factors into this as well, but we had the worst secondary I can remember ever having at Miami in my lifetime, and that's saying something because we've recruited that group like dog**** for a LONG time.

So you can't say the portal QB is literally all that matters. That is not true. I'd argue it matters very little if we trot Jaden Harris and Jadais Richard and Dyoni Hill out there again.
Facts, that’s wat a team is. The team can still be relatively the same next season, maybe even better as a whole if the offense takes a step back and the defense takes a major step forward. The defense was extremely below average. Mario would have to make the right offseason moves though, only time will tell.

I'm going to get hate for this comment, but from a strategic standpoint, the staff did the right thing. We could have overpaid for guys like Stubbs, Nix, and Merit just to make it look nice on the 247 recruiting rankings website. Instead, we will use this money for elite portal additions and the 26 class. At the end of the day, I believe it's the right move
This x1000. You knew we had money when we plucked Wiley Jr. So that showed right there the staff wasnt going to just be silly with the spending to "win" signing day. I would rather "win" the portal honestly.

Insults (starter)
STFU soy boy

Anybody who's been a Cane fan for more than a minute was never happy with 8 wins
Hey snowflake cuck boy, who poured hot sauce on your butt plug? Tons of clowns in here crying for 8 win seasons. You must be new here. Now, take your C-cups and have a seat.

Yeah, they really haven’t shown great talent eval and development skills. Better in some areas than others. People on here who were ripping Manny with the same record rip people for ripping Mario for the same things. Cuck level within the fanbase really is next level.

K thx.
Kickball catcher cuck level within the fanbase, especially the one's saying Mario hasn't shown great talent eval and development, despite this year's additions and development.

k, thnx

So far Miami hasn’t address weakness on their roster with this current class. Too many holes not being filled with high school recruits. The portal is suppose to fill in a couples holes not all. You can not rely on the portal to build the foundation of your talent. This class did not continue that build, it’s a failure so far.

Who was excited about 8 win seasons? Maybe YOU were, but I wasn’t. Majority of this board probably was so maybe that’s the issue now. I’ve said it a million times, this board wouldn’t know what a legitimate program and legitimate coaching looks like if it hit them in the ******* face. Ya’ll are so accustomed to an absolute dog **** product that we go slightly above that and everything is fine. No, it’s still dog ****, it’s just been cooked a little.
to say this program is still dog ****....bro sounding like that guy always covered in cheetoh dust with ashy elbows and flattened Crocs. Sit down

I agree with this. It wasn’t the master plan going in, but it was the right decision at the end.

If the portal players are too expensive and UM decides to save the money for the 2026 class, will that be the right decision? Half dozen good DBs in the portal last offseason but UM passed on all of them, I assume because they weren’t worth “elite” DB money.

It’s ok to be a Mario apologist but when you start attacking the rest of us who have a different and critical opinion then you’re the cuck. You want to go with attacks on posters. Let’s go and see how it goes for you, bully slurper.

Great write up D$. Curious what you mean about Nickel. You say he can drops balls in a bucket. But then you say the tools aren't special. Those two statements seem to contradict.
He’s talking about Nichols Arm strength, His arm strength isn’t special, but he is very accurate.

I agree. At some point you have to take a chance. Obviously they evaluated our roster last year and though Meesh and Jaden were adequate. Hoping some decent DB's put their name in.

Fitzgerald basically won the game for Columbus last week... ON OFFENSE.

Where do you think he ends up playing in college? I love the CJ Henderson comp but kid is dynamic when he gets the ball where the WR group is wide open for playing time
