Key word is "former" assistant coaches IMO.

They aren't even here anymore. How does them lying look bad on our part?

One thing I've gleaned from this is that we finally have a local reporter that is pro-UM and on our side instead of constantly trying to f#ck us--Tim Reynolds. Tim Reynolds is a champion. This dude should do a major expose' on this debacle, bury the NCAA and win a Pulitzer Prize in the process.

Gotta disagree with you here. I dont think Tim Reynolds has any intention to be "Pro-UM", i just think he's the only local reporter that is coherant enough to see this for exactly what it is, a crock of ****. He doesnt really have a history of picking sides, he just seems to be a very good writer that can justify his worht through thorough investigative journalism and by putting out a quality product, not by creating attention through publishing unfounded garbage(like the Herald and Yahoo).

I've read most of what he's written lately, and he's going out of his way to stand up for UM and to clown viciously the NCAA. Therefore, I'm confident in my position that he's pro-UM. I appreciate his work, and he could parlay this into a monster story on the corruption of the NCAA, get himself on 60 Minutes and win a Pulitzer. There's a GIANT story there for someone to get super famous off.

i've been on this paranoid kick for a while that the $EC has been behind this or its boosters. Simply: when USC or UM have their isht together they are juggernauts because they sit in these incredible talent pools more than even Alabama or LSU sit in. So what better way to pave the way to constant NCAA titles then to eliminate your competition which is to use the NCAA to get USC and Miami out of the way. NCAA has got to be influenced by $EC people or else they'd have crucified half that conference by now.

So yes, I think there's a monster story here but one as to the WHY of this witch hunt.

As was said in the Godfather so to speak: "Our true enemy has not revealed himself yet."

paranoid rant done

wow....youre nutts

Never pick a fight with a company that buys ink by the barrel, as they used to say in the days when newspapers were relevant. Yahoo is today's fish wrapper.

You want to relive this, front page of Yahoo, every day for the next five years, with every sordid detail, true or not, spilling out all over the dock?

No thanks.

Legal folks.

Is that a horrible idea? Does that open the door wide open for the NCAA to hire another lawyer to depose everyone in the Chick Robinsion report? If not, why would UM not do this? Convince me. Convince me.

I buy the $EC conspiracy theory. For how much, not sure? It's definitely possible. People have called me a conspiracy theorist in the past and some of them have been proven true. Example 2001 Kings Lakers West Conf Finals. I said the series was fixed. Donaghey aired his laundry and pointed to that series. Bingo!!

I don't think PUNICANE is nuts, just look at the extreme these people went to bury us. They put their jobs and the NCAA's integrity on the line to try to destroy Miami. Meanwhile the $EC gets away with far worse things then we ever committed. Problem is if they investigate one SEC school, then they gotta do them all. Thats one big can of worms.

I'd love for them to name Robinson in a suit. Not that Miami would win (it's very difficult to prevail over a "news" organization), but because the number one rule for journalists is don't get sued. That is a death sentence for most careers.

I think the #1 Rule is get the facts, especially if you are an investigative journalist.

Getting the facts right and substantiated beyond reproach ensures that you don't get sued.

It's never what you think, only what you can prove.
If you only think it, but can't prove it, you should never write it.

I wish it was that way and no doubt it's the way it should be. But sadly it's not. The media today almost never publishes full stories with the full set of facts (except the select few, NYT or WSJ) and especially not beyond reproach.

Take Miami's case. In order to prove a libel case, the person must prove: 1) that it was false, 2) caused harm, and 3) made without adequate research. For an institution to sue, they must prove all that and 4) made with the intent to do harm or with reckless disregard for the truth (proving malice intent - which is extremely hard to do). So Robinson doesn't even need facts to have legal protection, just a belief and a source.

But if journalists want to keep their jobs, they must avoid lawsuits. And 99% of the times, a retraction or correction is enough to avoid it. Robinson surely won't do that.

I'm sorry but did you really mean to say NYT is an EXEMPTION to media almost never publishing full stories with the full set of facts? Did you really mean to go there?!

That's certainly one way to interpret it. It's not the only way, by any stretch.

It's not politically or legally expedient for the NCAA to just let Miami off with time served at this point. That's been a well-documented opinion by several takes I've read on the situation, and I agree with it. Since the process pretty much has to be followed, this NOA has to be issued, and it has to have teeth, given the extent of the investigation and the media attention on the case. Harsh language in the NOA does not directly signal that Miami would get hammered moving forward by the COI. Specifically, I'd be interested to read the NOAs for Boise, UCF, and Ohio State. Their penalties were all relatively light.

My opinion is that Donna's issuing this statement is a public shot across the bow of the NCAA. But it does not mean that she hasn't been given back-channel assurnaces that Miami will getting time-served, at the end of the formal process. As I mentioned earlier, a statement like this in the press by Miami gives the COI and *** Boy Emmert (I'd apply to have his name legally changed, if I could) the cover they need to throw Enforcement under the bus. Everyone knows that Enforcement was way off the reservation in this investigation, and who knows how many others? The head of the deparment has been fired, along with others. There's no one left on the Enforcement side to **** when they get bus-tossed and Miami gets times served.

There's blood on both sides. We've been muck-raked for over two years; NCAA has been severly undermined.

There's no reason for either side to pursue this further.

Reason be damned when it comes to one's own survival -- Emmert feels cornered and he is fighting.

DS' statements shows she is rallying public support to influence the outcome. Therefore, I doubt deals have been worked out. DS is also pushing to face the COI this weekend. Striking while strong public opinion is on our side for once. If Emmert allows UM to face the COI this weekend, then it is likely we will get off with time served. I am skeptical that they will allow it so soon though. More likely they will push it back until the public's attention is focused elsewhere.

Where did this come from? I haven't read it anywhere but I may have missed it.

Guys the less that the guys at other places get, the better it is for us. Because it happened at UM. I know we want some of these guys to feel the pain, but keep the big picture in mind.

Or they got immunity for singing

Sec conspiracy would not shock me at all.

Ohio state, usc, miami all investigated. Funny that all 3 have won national championships in the past 13 years.

I think Donna had two responses written, one that was very nice and one that was not. They say we have been talking back and forth for a couple of weeks with the ncaa for a coule of weeks, going back and forth about the NOA. I think we were pushing for it to be much nicer given the major **** up. I think they may have even been lead to believe it would be substantially less. Hence, the nicer one that Donna had written where if it was time served, as we had requested, we would have happily accepted and moved along. The other was the one that was released because we did not get our way. I think the U's staff of lawyers knew more than we know and saw one of two thing happening and prepared for both. Which is why they were so quickly able to put out a press release tearing the NOA apart. They knew some of what was to be in there and I think they had hoped more would be removed than what was. When they left stuff in there we did not agree with Donna let them have it with the worst case scenario. Just my .02

They are getting deep into the situation now

they have writers and attorneys on to discuss whats happening and all are of the opinion that the NCAA is full of ****

please outline the main points when the show is over

I think the NCAA will be shocked at the public outcry. This is more about college athletics and less about Miami specifically. I'm confident Shalala will have good lawyers in place. Does anybody think that the NCAA will say no more bowl bans but significant scholarship reductions.

i only saw the second half show was attacking the NCAA credibility

points made
--too much money involved for schools to take punishments that can't get proved
--coaches have better lawyers then before
--NCAA staff is all time low creditability wise because most of the staff is fresh out of college and has way less experience then the organization did 20 years ago
--former NCAA employees saying their have been pressuring harder to get evidence in cases
--NCAA over steeping grounds they don't have subpoena power
--case is tainted
--NCAA hypocrite by resorting to the unethical ethics

I would not accept anything other than ZERO scholarship reductions and NO bowl bans.

We've done enough.

The NCAA is just mad they're the ones who couldn't hand out the punishments. We did it to ourselves.

Donna demanded nothing more. It's pretty unprecedented. She has to have the goods on them or else I can't see her going hard like that.
