LOL at them accusing people of being misleading. They have Shapiro as their star witness, who's in prison for what? Oh yeah...

So they accuse people of misleading or unethical conduct, meanwhile their star witness is in prison for a ponzi scheme worth nearly 1B and they themselves had to fire people for... unethical conduct.

If they're not begging for government oversight nobody is. I hate big government, but in this case would welcome them stepping in and stepping on these *****.

Not for what they actually found, but that they lied

If Hurtt's NOA is weak like Morton's, then yea they got nothing

I think the NCAA charged Miami with just enough to justify the punishment Miami has already self-imposed. We've imposed a lot, 2 bowl bans, 3 postseason games, multiple practices, limits on in-home and official visits, and 5 scholarships is a lot of sanctions. On what planet is that not harsh? UCF got less for LOIC, so at this point I'm not worried.

So you think DS is just blowing smoke for no reason?
I don't think so.

She is the President of an University. Presidents don't make such severe statements unless she and Glazier are set on an all out war! Emmert will be gone at the end of this. Only one side will be standing and Donna has decided that she will take Emmert and his ilk out.

Exactly. her fiery response is great, but it does not support the conclusion that the NCAA is just trying to justify the self-imposed punishment.
With her going nuclear on the NCAA... making some serious allegations against the NCAA tells us there is some serious steak on the fire.

Not that this is a surprise.. but I just heard from a connected friend at the university that they are preparing a lawsuit as we speak.. its going to get ugly

FYI, not only are they preparing a suit against the NCAA, but two individuals are named also.

Hmmmm Charles Robinson perhaps?

Well if Robinson worked for the NY Times, then after the unsubstantiated story, The University of Miami would have owned the NY Times in a lawsuit.

You can't scream fire in a crowded theater without there being consequences.

In that case maybe Yahoo will build us out own stadium as compensation???:quag:

I'd love for them to name Robinson in a suit. Not that Miami would win (it's very difficult to prevail over a "news" organization), but because the number one rule for journalists is don't get sued. That is a death sentence for most careers.

I think the #1 Rule is get the facts, especially if you are an investigative journalist.
Getting the facts right and substantiated beyond reproach ensures that you don't get sued.

It's never what you think, only what you can prove.
If you only think it, but can't prove it, you should never write it.

It doesn't take big gubby to squash them. Right now it's looking like a small private school in South Florida is in the process of taking care of it.

All the discussion about deals and signals and settlement has been wildly uninformed.

There is no one even to talk deal with up to now. The NCAA is not set up well to cut deals. The enforcement arm collects evidence and bring charges. The COI assess them and imposes penalties. You would have to talk deal with the COI, but you can't even consider doing that until there is a NOA.

So go back and ask what DS is angry about. The NOA brings serious charges against the U. That's one thing. The investigation revealed a true witch-hunt against the U. That's another. But what did she expect? Perhaps she thought Emmert would soften the NOA given the problems with the investigation. Maybe.

Maybe she's just trying to send a message to the COI? But that can be done more diplomatically.

I think the only way to interpret her comments are a signal of defiance in the face of a set of events that she is concerned could play out very badly for us.

^ I haven't heard any serious charges against Miami.

Of what charges do you speak?

This whole ordeal is just baffling to me. How did the NCAA think this was going to go down? They showed complete lack of ethical behavior and no logical judgment in their process of this investigation. Yet, they still have the audacity to send this NOA and accuse Miami of LOIC. I mean, not even the most unethical, immoral, worst ADA would continue with a case like this knowing all of the missteps and improper actions. Even more mind-boggling, the NCAA leaked information to the media to try and gain a PR edge.

They have failed across all accounts.

I really hope Miami and others put the NCAA in its place. They need an entirely new organization or a checks-and-balances system. ****, every branch of our government has to answer to another, completely separate branch of the government. But not the NCAA. What a joke.

This is where you are uninformed. She didn't fire up the laptop and write this last night after she saw the NOA. That statement was calculated and prepared well in advance. With the hired guns we have running this show, there is absolutely nothing that is reactionary. They knew what message they were sending weeks ago. The only question was what time to release it.

The NOA charging LOIC is just a way for the investigative committee to try and save their own ***. Hopefully.......hopefully, the COI understands whats happening here.

Reading comprehension? where did I say she was reactionary and shot this statement out from the hip? I agreed w/ the earlier poster that Shalala's harsh words attacking the NCAA do NOT support the conclusion that the NCAA does not plan to do anything else to us and is just trying to justify the sanctions we've self imposed over the last two years.

its funny that the NCAA would accuse anyone of misleading
