Artavius Jones, Four-Star Defensive Lineman, Joins Miami Hurricanes' 2024 Recruiting Class

The Miami Hurricanes stayed hot on the recruiting trail Friday, as four-star defensive lineman Artavius Jones has announced his commitment to their 2024 recruiting class. The commitment from the 6-foot-3, 280-pound lineman follows closely on the heels of another major addition to the Hurricanes' class. Jojo Trader, another high-profile recruit, pledged his commitment to the Hurricanes just 24 hours before Jones. The back-to-back announcements have injected a surge of optimism to Miami’s recruiting outlook after a recent stretch of disappointments.

The interior defensive lineman from Blounstown, Florida, has decided to don the Hurricanes' orange and green, overlooking interest from other prominent programs like Florida State, Tennessee, and UCF. Jones, a highly sought-after talent on the defensive line, is currently ranked as the #165 overall player in the nation, according to the 247sports composite rankings. He is rated as the #20 Defensive Lineman in the country and the #25 player in the state of Florida.

With Jones' commitment, the tally of new recruits for Miami’s 2024 class rises to 18. More notably, he is the first defensive tackle to pledge his allegiance to the Hurricanes in this recruiting cycle. He will certainly be joined by multiple others at his position for the cycle as well.

Jones officially visited the University of Miami on the weekend of June 23rd before making his announcement today.

His get off will deliver more force than even most experienced P5 OL see. He’ll need to work on his technique but can probably get away with a straight bull rush in most cases.

I believe Scott has the higher ceiling but will need some development. We should see him more and more as the season goes along.

I actually think Jones has the higher ceiling but Scott’s floor is higher. Jones was made in a DT lab, let’s just hope his technique matches.

These types of guys are so rare. I just don’t think we should expect anywhere close to this from Scott or Jones or any of the freshmen. If it happens amazing. But it is far more likely it won’t.

Nah Scott is even higher ranked than him
It’s time to start expecting this
I look around and see 5 stars making big impacts yearly even on dline
Breesee and Myles Murphy also made impacts as freshman at Clemson and Scott is higher rated than them too

I think Jones and Baron (especially Baron) will make Bain even better

I get what your saying but Breesse was like the #1 player In the nation his senior year. Murphy was also a DE and I think its easier for them to play earlier then the Dt position.

The best part to me is that bringing in Blount, Scott and Jones in the same class means they will be pushing each other just to get on the field. We are finally at a point where guys have to work their as*es off just to see the field. That level of competition is the difference between competing against the UVA’s, and competing against the Bama’s of the world.

We go through waves where a few freshmen will do amazing things — the Bosas, Manziel, Herschel, Watkins. People forget they’re lottery tickets. And how many interior lineman provide Bain level contributions as first years?

If it happens, I’ll be ecstatic. But I’m not counting on it. Can Horton please get off the injured reserve list? Can Moten please take a big step and be a key contributor as a third year guy? I’m much more hopeful one or both of those happen to solidify the DT room in 2024.

Regardless, the future is bright.

True but I think with todays nutrition and more pass based game that our stud dts should contribute early

I’d say given everything they were asked to do, Bain and Duke Johnson probably had the best freshmen seasons I’ve personally seen as a fan

Us just loading up on the front will allow Bain to be a lot more productive and that’s going to be fun to watch
