Zone Blitzing, how it works

To run schemes like this you have to have great teachers who can break it down and make it simple (less think, more react).

That will be the question moving forward. Can Golden/D'Onofrio teach it. D'Onofrio has had a combined 6 years of experience as a DC and Golden has had 4 as DC and 6 as HC.
That's not a whole lot of experience.

And most of that was in the MAC.

Why would teaching these schemes in the MAC be any different from teaching them any place else?

Lmao exactly, the village idiot has an agenda and its clear as day through all of his post.

If anything, the fact they made it work actually bolsters the support that they can teach it. This is a complex defense, thus the fact they were able to teach it to inferior players bolsters the claim that they can teach it. If you're arguing the efficiency of the defense then this could be a possible point (i.e. played against weaker competition) but if you're questioning their ability to teach it, this fact is a supporting claim.

To this point, I am interested to see how well the position coaches can teach the intricacies as well. When we have been at our best, our position coaches were outstanding (e.g. Wannstedt, Gary Stevens, Dave Campo, Butch Davis, Randy, Mike Stoops, etc etc).

For example, Fisch convinced me he was a great qb coach with the improvement we saw in Jacory with just one season. I have high hopes for Barrow, in particular. It will become apparent in just a season or two, I think.

I got my fingers crossed on Barrow. I really hope he pans out. Eddie Johnson and Perryman are already looking good, so that's a good sign. Either way, I hope Ray Lewis finds his way down to The U when he retires, if he ever retires.

420 I agree Coach Barrow has gotten production out of Perryman and Johnson, while also turning Terry loose a few times. I think Paul Williams has to get some accolades for improving McGee/Finnie . I am interested to see how well the team does with the next seven games.

The biggest question mark/weak link thus far on the coaching staff has been Jethro Franklin IMO. Although, I am giving him a pass for now because he really has no talent to work with.

Great thread btw, fellas.

How does he not have talent to work with? Please explain.
Is it 01 Canes good... F no...

But it's **** good enough to get some f'in pressure once in a blue moon.

The only 2 units to not improve, or show no improvement from last year, are DL & maybe TEs (though they've been serviceable at times I suppose)

Every other facet of our team has improved. The LB play isn't where it needs to be... but Eddie Johnson, Denzel Perryman.... these are high level backers.

We're 114th in country in total defense. Mind boggling the excuses people make for that.

Only one worth a **** at this point is Chickillo, and even then, I think he's a bit overhyped.

Chickillo: Great motor and work ethic, ornery, BUT he's not explosive off the edge. Holds well at the LOS though.
Pierre: Erratic. One play I'll see him shoot a gap and get decent push upfield, the next I see him get blasted 2-3 yards backwards, creating gaping holes.
Grimble: Talent is there, but he's young still (I believe he's young for his grade). Shouldn't have to be asked to contribute until his 2/3 year, but we have no choice at the moment.
Luther: Really?! What has he done to make you think he has talent? One decent game is not enough.

Until we have a quality front 7 to go along with the coaching, we're going to keep getting gashed. When you have a 5'8" walk-on getting significant snaps at LB, you know you're in trouble.

This.

I think he's done ok with the DE's. Not sure if it's his fault with the DT's. He can teach them all day how to not get pushed backwards, but at the end of the day, the DT's have to man up and not get put on ice skates. On top of that, I'm sure he spent most of last season trying to undo whatever Clint Hurtt's sorry *** taught them.

By the way, ND is a perfect example of a strong front 7 covering for the weakness in the backfield. I know they haven't really been tested, but I don't consider Bethune-Cookman and BC as powerhouse offenses either...
