Zaquan is not hurt

With Richard getting hurt, it’s time to put meesh back to the slot, which moves Porter back to his normal outside spot and let’s start Zaquan at safety. This could improve things.
I agree, I actually like that line up and think it could give Miami its best group. Patterson helps solve the tackling issues from the safety position and DP back to the outside should help in coverage.

No disrespect to the kid but after going back and watching highlights of each game, 60% of the explosive plays given up by a CB was on Richard. Hill is right behind him, I would love to see Washington cut into some of Hill’s reps.

Looks like he was already being folded into the rotation with 36 snaps in 4 games. Now that Richard is down, he's next man up so will start for sure.

That's the exact adjustment that I saw Guidry make after Richard went down.

Zaquan needs to start & we need Meesh in the slot. Yeah he has a few picks, but I don't think he's a very good safety. While we're seeing Zaquan attacking & destroying ball carriers, take a look at this run by Duke late in the 3rd with the game still in jeopardy. From 17:48-18:07 you get two looks at this run by #5. On the 2nd look, you see that Meesh sees the ball carrier and is lined up for the tackle but starts....I don't know wtf he's doing.

It's as if he's waiting to get blocked (which he eventually does) or juked out of his shoes. I get that he has experience and knows/makes the calls on D, but he & Harris (#7) are huge liabilities back there. Zaquan and Markeith WIlliams have both looked much better in action.

Would love to see OJ & Porter on the outside with Meesh/Damari when he comes back in the nickel & Zaquan + Markeith starting at S.

I didn't watch, but something I noticed in the game was that it looked like the secondary was taught to recently to not give up explosive plays. There was very little attacking in open space and instead they tried staying in their area and preventing someone getting outside or a cut back. It was very bend but don't break esque.

Yeah it was a shame Popo got hurt. These were the two young guys (along with Lofton) I was hoping to see more and more of

Loved seeing Pruitt out there though as well

I know people ask for backups just out of reaction but this coaching staff has shown they are willing to play young guys when they’re ready

Mario would be a fool not to unload the chamber the rest of the season and put the best players on the field as much as possible regardless of seniority. He will likely never have an offense this good again and the competition this year is as weak as possible. If he wants a national championship then this is the year. Feelings be damned. Play your best

But on every explosive run you see #7. He played good at the beginning of the year then I have no idea what happened.

Highsmith was abysmal. Next level bad.
Meh he tackled. He just had that ONE PLAY that was the worst of all time, but this dude is out of place 99 percent of the time and the one percent he misses the tackle. If I said he had the awareness of a blind man I would be insulting the blind man!!

If I recall correctly, AJ Highsmith came in as a QB, and I give him a pass and some credit because he made the switch to safety during his final 1-2 years of college and became a contributor. On the other hand, Harris #7 was recruited as a DB, so I don’t know what his excuse is.

Guidry has some loyalty to #7, but the entire Canes defense needs Patterson to get more reps. A playmaking safety can be an eraser and make everyone on the defense, including the players and coaches alike, look better. If you gradually play Patterson more and more over the next three games, he can be a major contributor for the ACC-CG and the CFP Playoffs.
