"You're a Miami fan... did you go to Miami?"

OP, believe it or not it happens to students also.

I am just like you, grew up and raised a Cane! It was my dream school. I loved their style and repped them hard everywhere I went. I got into countless arguments with Seminoles and Gators in high school because no one was going to disrespect my team. I am thankful and blessed every day I am there because it is my dream school.

My Freshman year we went up to FSU for the game. I got into it with one of their fans and his go-to line was "you're an FIU student, you don't even go to UM". I lost it and I was so upset, and not in the right state of mind, that I pulled out my Cane Card and he responded with "that's fake, you got that made". It was the one time an FSU fan ever got to me.

You just have to ignore it. Haters are going to hate. It's an easy go to line but it doesn't make it a good one. Do you!

Thanks for actually following through.

Every time on of the recruits says it's their dream school and shuns us I get real upset. They take it for granted.

I get it from douche bag cane fans that think it makes them better because they went there. Sorry I could not pay $1250 per credit hour to go to my dream school.

That argument bothers me. How many FBS programs are situated in a major city? Only the LA schools and Pitt come to mind. We're a private school with an alumni base the fraction of the size of any state school. A big reason why we survive is because we have a substantial group of fans that are not alumni.

Im a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge Miami fan but both of my parents when to Florida, my older brother and sister were both born in Gainesville, and my oldest brother graduated from Florida State smdh ... i spent a year going to Ohio State myself (needed that in-state tuition) yal would be surprised how many ppl up there dapped me up for wearing my Miami gear on campus. it's still Miami over everything for me ! Kills me when recruits say miami was their dream school growing up...If Miami wouldve offered me a scholarship I would've said yes with no hesistation at all. NONE...Go Canes

I'm an alum and have never even thought about asking another fan if they went to UM.

I get asked "well did you go there" alot. Love that punka** look on their face when I say YEH.

Here's my super-secret sauce...my Jedi mind trick. Very complicated and philosophical...

I just say "no."

I went one year there, 96-97. I was in the marching band and had Ryan Clement in my chemistry lab. Does that count, or am I not allowed to be a Miami fan since I didn't graduate there? Why does it seem like this question keeps popping up?

Went to Florida Gulf Coast University because I couldn't afford UM lol... Been a Canes fan for as long as a I can remember. My idiot brother went to FSU. I've always hated them because of it. Also fam is all from Miami, grandpa worked for Standard Oil company for 30 years before retiring to Ft Myers. I've been to many games in the Orange Bowl & hundreds of away games over the years.

I can't even imagine why it matters whether you went to UM or not. I'm also a Naval Academy fan, but was never a midshipman.

Whatever.

The reason Corbin's the U documentary is so good is that the premise is that the football program took on the personality of the community and embraced all the kids from the area... The more UM has tried to distance itself from the local community the chittier the program has gotten, and yes this can be attributed to Shalala... This is why we have the recruiting issue we have... UM no longer identifies with Dade County, they are like this dude caneshow who called 99.9 percent of bad fans the community fans... Continue to enjoy 8-5 country club life homie

Having moron fans doesn't change the performance of the football team.

Seriously, you couldn't have proven my point better if you actually tried.

Yep case closed, you nailed it mane, once we clean out the 99.9 bad non alumni fans and kill the world with the 17 alumni singing what does the ibis say, we back

You nailed the moron Miami fan checklist in one post, it was remarkable

[X] Reference 30 for 30
[X] Shalala Sucks
[X] Miami needs more thugs and gangstaz

I mean, if you threw in a "BRING BACK BUTCH" line, you would have gotten extra credit. But well done "homie".

You have the kind of spunk we need in The West End Zone

Not an alum, family moved to Miami when I as a kid. I lived in Miami from '71 - '89, now in ATL. We had season tix for baseball and football for years. I still attend at least one football game a year, planning on heading to Lincoln this year and will most likely catch the GA Tech game with my son.

People only ask because they know it will **** you off and get a rise out of you. Personally I say yes, since i did in fact go there.

I honestly think it's pretty dumb the way non-alums like to **** on alums and vice versa. Everyone's on the same side. The only time I get a little annoyed is when people freak out about academic standards, since at then end of the day that's what a University is supposed to be about, but at the end of the day, I'm with anyone who supports Miami.

I just didn't think 160k on an undergrad degree was worth it unless I was getting my dream job right out of college. I always had plans to go to grad school so the undergrad degree was, more or less, not as important. For that kind of money, it needed to be more important to warrant going. I applied for ***** and giggles and was accepted but never had any intention of enrolling

My friend and I have been asked that multiple times at games. He usually responds "is U M slang for U'r mom? If so I've been there several times. She gave me a degree. Graduated *** Laude."

It's crass and a liitle nonsensical but they usually shut up.

Im a grown *** man and do not have to explain my affiliations to anyone. I dare a motherphuka to try and take my UM shirt.

For what its worth, I was interviewed and extended an offer by UM psych for my PhD but I elected to go elsewhere because I did not think it was a good fit. SOOOOOO I kinda coulda sorta was a student

Not a good fit, you say? You're the guy who got in TV's ear.

Anyone who asks the question is condemning his/her school of choice to a world of crappy recruiting. University's recruit kids to play football at their school who, by the definition given, aren't 'fans of the school because they don't attend it.' (See Brad Kaaya and the numerous others yet to attend UM as of yet)

Next person that asks the question, respond with 'Good!...I hope the UM Football team gets every high school kid who is to be the next great star in college football.' 'So you're telling me (high school player X) isn't a fan because he doesn't attend UM?? Idiot. He's gonna help us win games soon!'

I wonder what would happen if you respond to the stupid question and blurt out an answer that happens to be their team of allegiance. No doubt they would quickly give you a high five and fist bump. 'Oh, but i didn't attend Arizona St...but I'm a fan too! No worries man!...It's all good!'

(It's a moronic question to begin with)

edit: questions a this nature typically come from the gaytor, f$u fan, and the o$u fan.

I never really understood this either. So folks who did not attend college for whatever reason are not allowed to root for a college team? I never played football for the Dolphins. Nor have I ever played basketball for the Heat. Am I not allowed to be a fan of them either since I was never a part of their organization(s)?

I went to UM and i saw some kids cheering for the opposite teams. For example there was this one idiot who plucked his eye brows, shaved his legs and always wore a backwards hat and was cheering for FSU during the 2001 game. You know the year when we had the best players every in 1 team.

He even showed up to chartwells wearing and FSU hat.

so what I am trying to say.. is no you don't have to go to the school to be a fan.
