What defense do you run with the 2014 roster and why?

Just trying to hear some good football conversation from posters on the board about what scheme they would run as Miami HC.

I believed, and still do, in creating up field pressure from a 4-3 stack formation

Considering you gotta work with what you got, id stick with the plan and go 3-4....all things considered when you have the players for it, its the best D you can run imo

With all the hybrids located in the Florida area. I would bring in someone who could run the 4-4 Bud Foster defense. Which uses 4-3 personnel.

If Foster had the state of Florida resources like we do. His defenses would be earth shattering imo. He does wonders with what he gets at the moment, but lord with the likes of Grace and McCord types.

Somehow, you've got to get your best players on the field. In my mind, our best "front 7" is:

Chickillo, Muhammed, Chad Thomas, McCord, Perryman, and maybe Jermaine Grace or Kirby. Add a nose guard in there like Wyche or Huertelou.

I don't really know how you mix and match those guys. It's a puzzle.

You've gotta be a fan of some other ACC school if you think we've got anyone on our roster to hold down the middle of a 3-4 defense.

I immediately hire Butch Davis to run the whole show while I make all the public appearances and pressers that he so hates to do.

Kick back and start raking in the NC's in about 3-4 years.

He can run whatever defense his heart so desires.

4-3 or 4-2-5

I think both of those defenses would compliment the athletes that are available to us very well.

With the questions we have at LB, and the questions we do not have in the secondary, I'd love to see some 4-2-5 with safety blitzes regularly.

I like mine as a mix for 335, 34, and 425. But I would jut wanna use the best defense for the personnel we would want on the field.

We are a 4-3 team from a personel standpoint.

I would Slide Chickillo inside as an undersized DT, Put McCord and Muhhamad at DE; Grace seems like a natural 4-3 OLB to me and the rest of the LB corp seems more 4-3ish to me as well.

Thomas is a 4-3 DE as is Jackson, Smith may be able to grow into that position as well. It just seems like all the pieces we brought in and have scream 4-3 defense, we still don't have the plug at NT to be an effective 3-4 defense (Wyche could be that, who know at this point and he's not here yet).

4-2-5 (nickel) all day long. With all the spread offenses and players being quicker with the ball you need to have more DBs on the field most of the time. Me personally, depending on how pass heavy the team was, I would think about putting an extra bigger safety in the second LB spot.

I think with the talent that we have in the defensive backfield, combined with the big hitters, and the spread offense, the 3-3-5 would be nice to run. The 4-3 is cool, but you can't stop the spread offense with a 4-3.

The people saying a 3-3-5 or other variations of a 34 defense, what makes you think wed have the personnel to run this is we dont for OUR own 3-4???
